The first time I watched Akira was in 2016 on a VHS with an actual CRT TV at my grandmothers house. I was so board no internet no nothing. Just a mountain of VHS's. My eyes popped out when I saw that somehow my 85 year old grandmother happened to have Akira randomly. I watched it again years later on a good modern TV over streaming and there was just something missing. Managed to watch the VHS again on the CRT while visiting and the movement was so warm on the original hardware.
theres needs to be like CRT emulation for modern monitors/tvs. some shit is just better when played/watched on the hardware it was made for.

I get how other Mandela effect examples could just boil down to reading mistakes or something, but millions of people remembering a SPECIFIC aspect of a well known logo only for it to have “never existed” is insane. It’s not like a cornucopia/horn of plenty is a common iconography you see in lots of places. Huh, I never heard of the Akira "Streamline dub" he was talking about. I went and looked on Usenet, which is where most things are when people think it's not available anymore... couldn't find it. Weirdly there's even an upload tagged "Sam Hyde" from about 8 months ago... but I found the kids with weird voices I think Nick was talking about, and they sounded like normal kids, so I don't think that's it.
I think the NA/SA thing is just due to people being uneducated about how different map projections work. Despite flunking out of high school and getting my GED, I think I paid more attention in class than the kids getting A's. I'm 47 years old though, Western education has probably went down even further since I left.

@@howdy4686 look up "World Classic Wall Map, Mural" I believe that is the one everyone defaults in their mind for how the world looks from NA. The projection makes it look like SA is farther west than it is, and it aligns with the spine observation of the rockies and andes.

I am a GIS Analyst so take that if you will. While you might remember that alignment of the America's don't match up with what you remember in school it may be due to the material that you were consuming in the past. As we all know the earth is not a round ball it is flat. It is not easy to map the world if you cannot find the ice wall so we try to make maps simple and square, because a disk shaped map is weird. Not all maps look the same, and will find that there will be maps that make Iceland super huge and others make it smaller. This is due to cartographic projection. The most common cartographic projection that we use for large class rooms is the Mercator Projection. While you may remember that the the south Americas where more inline with the USA, your are just not remembering it right. The reason for this is simple we like to map things in our brain that make the most sense to us. The Mercator map makes south America look skinnier than it is and USA & Canada big and wide. As we try to map things mentally & linearly to where they are, it is a common mistake that we would perceive Brazil and the south Americas to fin within the width of north America. With more satellites looking into our bathrooms as we shower, the accuracy to where things are becomes more accurate. South America is a very large continent that is freaky from a northern centric view. Brazil is very very far out from Florida, and that is the truth. School classroom globes will mess up your brain since they are not spacially acurate

Charls generally has the right opinion on most issues. He believes a lot of whack shit but after the Adult Swim era, his entire career and life up to that point completely disappeared, and he blamed it on Sam for a while.
The fact that he forgave Sam is reason enough for Sam to ignore any belief Charls has that's kinda out there.
Charls is literally 1/3 of what makes the MDE shit so great, wouldn't be the same without him.
Sam and Charls have discussed this on a handful of recent PGLs and have stated clearly to one another their positions on the earth shape. Right after this clip ends Sam goes on to say that hype over map projections as some kind of concealed truth is a worthless 100 IQ take. He knows Chuck thinks it's flat so it's safe to assume Sam isn't talking about Chuck's particular angle at least.
I get the sense that he has in mind either a flat Earther less intelligent than Charls or a black guy who thinks the system is trying to hide how big the continent of Africa is. Sam has said in an old PGL that for the kind of 100 IQ person who makes minimum wage and loves pop-science space facts, the shape of the Earth shouldn't matter "because you aren't on it". I think he would have the same take for a Tartaria truther working at 7/11. Sam does seem to have the time of day to give when Charls brings these kinds of things up, in the PGL where they look at Cold War nuke footage Sam doesn’t jump on “nukes are fake” but he readily concedes “this film looks faked”
