I’m so excited! Well I have covid and that sucks but I just realized you made this series so while I’m in bed I get to watch the goods! I make soap but you always teach me something. Pay attention! This lady is smart! She will teach you many things and not tell you wrong.
Beginner here! This channel is so great. Just wanted to say that I think it's a good idea to invest in one of those [individual] soap bar molds! Just for the sake of experimentation. I got one just to experiment with my scent & oil combinations and to give out as testers for public opinion. No need to go and make a whole loaf of something that you or others end up not liking and so much going to waste as a result. Hope this helps. Happy soaping to all.
Goodwill was and is still my place to go shopping for silicone molds and my first ever stick blender got it from them too. Never care about thermometer since I am room temperature soaper until I started making candles. Mine slab mold is a box that I line up with freezer paper. Can’t afford a real one, but was able to find a Woden box at the goodwill as well
Do you recommend testing the accuracy of the scale at certain times? I have a low cost scale from Amazon but not sure how long I should trust it. If you do check or calibrate…. Any tips or tricks to do so?
Good question! I have a set of jewelry calibration weights that work to check these smaller scales, but the best way for me to check is to weigh my clean, dry, Pyrex every day. I weigh two that are exactly the same, one I use, and one I don’t (backup should the one I use break). They both weigh 51.64 oz (a weight they’ve maintained for a decade), so first thing I do every morning is weigh both of those. If the number is off, I switch scales and either recalibrate the nicer scales or get a new one for the smaller scales. That said, these small scales I use for the videos have been incredibly reliable and I’ve only had to replace them after I’ve dropped them or spilled lye on the display, rendering it unreadable.

Great info for beginners, so simple and to the point. Have a lovely day.

Your goodwill sounds amazing!
@@MrsSoapAndClay yes, they really are. Just got an almost brand new stand mixer this past weekend
What soap cutter would you recommend and where to source:
1. Single bar cutter
2. Multi-bar cutter
3. Loaf / slab mold cutter/splitter

Harbor Freight is where we got our thermometer.
Yup, and great prices for gloves as well! The nitrile kind. 😅
Lastly... check estate sales, garage sales, and flea markets!!!
And the good ol’ thrift shop, like Macklemore taught us back in 2010.
That Amazon mold... they make them with the wood too and only $15.
I tagged it in the description; when I first bought those guys there were no wood options 😬
@@MrsSoapAndClay I’m an idiot… I didn’t look at that. 😂
Amazon mold for the win!
