I didn't even realize that was supposed to be them. The whole idea of twins is that they look the same. My "hey, it might turn alright guys!" vibe keeps getting destroyed 🥲
It can look good, however I already saw the movies, and the series, so I don't need a live action. I always think live actions (Just as they do in Japan), are to try to get more money, not to actually depict a good anime/cartoon. But, I am like that. If I can play the original of a game, I will always play the original first, just to compare. And most of the time, the original is always better, so yeah :D
I loooooved the films so much. Originals are always the best. The teaser has made me 'slightly' interested in it, but I am ready to be disappointed once again. 🥲
ye most of the hate for astrid's casting is coming from the fans that don't want a live action, so if theres a difference in the live action, fans should be respectful like you and just... don't watch it, then they might not complain as much
"Respecting the source material", making an exact carbon copy? Seriously, why bother watching it, it's the exact same fkn movie. I wouldn't bother watching the movie if it's the exact same movie just with a different coat. Waste of my money tbh. Different actress for Astrid? I don't give a fk.
Reminder this caused the John Campea “ Woke “ Rant Outside the inaccuracies of Astrid and others it looks promising and could be but the inaccuracies is the cause for concern
Ohooo I remember that. I mean I don't like the fact that they are making a live-action at all. They need to stop making those and put out more original stuff. 😮💨
I just feel like we should look at how they play the character more, and also, why not look at the whole casts cause there are so many more of the castings that look different from the original, not saying I dont like it, just saying that people should critisize the whole cast instead of just one character. Also as I understand it, the guy who made the animated movies is the one making the live action so if thats true, then I feel we should trust him
I recently noticed the casting for the twins. Like... at least cast twins or people who actually look alike. 😢 I am willing to give it a chance, I used to love things like this. Hope they don't add anything else for the 'modern audiences'. 🤔
They couldn't make her blonde for the same reason Disney couldn't make Halle fire engine red. Trying to please progressives forces the studios to walk a paper thin line between the purists and the activists. By casting Halle and Nico, their respective studios knew they were going to razzle the purists who wanted a 100% authentic recreation. But they also knew they couldn't try to appease the purists by making them look more like the original portrayals, because the activists would scream rassismus and that they were "white washing" black actresses. Studios really do have a terrible position these days trying to please two very irrational groups. It's not a technical limitation like some are trying to claim. Disney literally pioneered dozens of technological advancements in cinema over their lifetime to produce things that most people claim was not possible. Disney, and Dreamworks alike, are absolutely two of the best studios for getting the job done. They just couldn't because of politics. Making Nico a platinum blonde, or Halle fire engine red, would have gotten the attention of some nose ring, blue haired, looney making an article about how they are trying to "erase" black women, so the only course of action was to keep the actresses' hair close to their natural while still making enough change to throw a bone to the purists.
There used to be a time when anything coming out from these companies was a must-see, no questions asked. Now I feel like the 'message' has tainted everything and even made it harder for actual good films to be noticed. I get what you mean about not wanting to get the attention of "some nose ring, blue haired, looney" 🤭 but they have to realize that, THAT audience never shows up and if they do, they are a small group. Hopefully, this film, if it's good could be a step back in the right direction. Thank you for taking the time to comment! 🤗
fans are only literally angry at the characters looking different, cuz they don't even know how they performed in the film yet, its not out, so its not a case of protecting a childhood beloved character, its a case of straight face value judgement. acting like the original iteration of a character is more important than looking like the original iteration of the character, also same director so he made a change based on his right to do so as the instigator of this film and the original films
Sooo what do you think? Are you excited to watch the live-action How to Train Your Dragon Film? Are you hopeful? Worried? Don't care? 😅
i have more of an issue with the twins not even looking related

I want to like these things, but they keep being so baaaad! But yeah, I get you. If only they could make something original. 😮💨

@ yeah all over the Astrid race swap and I agree make something original for once but this could potentially be good

The activists should be ignored and disregarded.

How can you whitewash black actress by casting white actress for white role? Curious
