    Feinberg's 4th sonata is amazing. I can't get it out of my head even though I can't sing along. Huge props to Mr. Hamelin for putting this very underrated composer into the spotlight.

    Someone who performs the Feinberg Sonatas with such brilliant wit and rhythmic mastery cannot possibly have been satisfied with his own Beethoven performance which time and again loses its rhythmic pulse that might carry a coherent melodic line. The Appassionata contains many passages which tempt the player to force the tempo to an impossible degree. Hamelin fell into nearly all these traps. In the end one felt that he simply wanted to bring this affair to an end, the faster the better, and gallopped the piece to death. And then a marvellous contrast, proof that Hamelin belongs to the most convincing and accomplished Schumann interpreters.

  • @dreamsdreams9493
    @dreamsdreams9493 3 роки тому +2

    Appassionata's fiery coda is extremely difficult to control even for Maestro Hamelin. He made a couple of mistakes.

    • @raftom4454
      @raftom4454 2 роки тому +1

      The part where he made the mistakes is very easy and comfortable to play. You just throw your hands there it plays itself. The trickiest bit is the part before that, the block chords, where he got super tense. He played them OK but then couldn't get rid of the tension and got caught later. Almost everyone has problems with those chords.
