Rollo was a lot more interesting. Aside from being fictional, Ragnar was pretty boring. In fact, the show had to take exploits of other characters and turn them into Ragnar's achievements. One is example is when Ragnar pretended to be dead to infiltrate Paris. Well, that was something Bjorn did to infiltrate Luna which he thought was Rome.

@@brohanfromrohan5771 Whether or not Ragnar was fictional is still a matter of debate. There's no definitive proof either way, on one hand there's very few sources outside the Icelandic sagas that speak of Ragnar, on the other hand you had a bunch of important figures from the viking era claiming to be sons of Ragnar. Whether he was real or not, we'll most likely never know.

Hi! We went to Rouen, France, in June 2018. We had never been in any of the great Gothic cathedrals of Europe before, and it was inspiring, exciting, and humbling. The first thing the video shows is the old statues that used to be displayed on the outside of the building, and which had been brought indoors to preserve them from weathering. Then I pan to show you one of the naves along the side of the structure - I was reminded of movie, the |"Lord of the Rings," when the heroes, encountered the Halls of Moria, except REAL! Then I pan to the side to show the central worship area of the cathedral.
I knew a little about Rollo, and it was a treat to hear the legends of the Viking who (maybe) was too big to ride a horse! While the details of his life are few, we know he came from a Scandinavian region, and we also know that, thanks to a lot of luck, his descendants populated about one-third to one-half of the thrones of Europe. I am sure that he was not as delicate a man as the sculpture on the top of his tomb implies. It has been fascinating to hear more stories from all of you about his time as the ruler of Normandy, and I thank you!
It is so amazing to think of the VIking sailors and raiders who, under Rollo's leadership, moved into France and simply became the Normans, the Northmen of France, speaking French, farming, distilling calvados, and otherwise leaving the world of raids and pillage behind. The leadership, the noble families of the Normans were not so quiet. They would be heavily involved in the Crusades and dozens of important events during Europe's medieval history.
The heart of Richard the Lionheart is also in the cathedral, although the rest of him is buried elsewhere, but congratulations to the Fathers of Rouen for getting the good part. Time has reduced it to a brown powder. I believe that once a year it is brought forth by the fathers there for exhibition of blessings?
I fell a little bit in love with Normandy during our short stay there. The bocage, the cuisine, the wonderful preservation of half-timbered structures in central Rouen - I know a lot of European cities are proud of their "Historic Centers," but this was our first encounter with the surroundings that can suddenly, with a glance at some ancient architecture, take you back through one thousand years of time. You could practically hear the stomp of horses carrying the nobility in their carriages to and fro, maybe trampling a few peasants on the way, and the cries of merchants in the town square! (Look out for the housewives dumping their chamber pots from windows above!)
Thanks you for your comments and your interest!

Thanks to you, by visiting my 36th and 37th GGF by dad's side by several bloodlines, as I can't.
This is bc of the Conquest of America.
One of Rollo's descendant, Francisco de la Rúa y Aguirre Meneses, came to co - found Chile in company of his cousin Pedro de Aranda Gutiérrez - Valdivia, the founder of this country.
They were both Charlemagne's descendants, my 41st GGF.
      Ain't ethnically from here.
Pope Giuliano de Medici allowed grandpa Francisco to marry his cousin, by saving several nuns during the Sack of Rome.
Then more European relatives came to live in Chile, and kept the tradition of marrying between them (then, not incest).
Ain't rich as my ancestors were, but I can't claim about my life.
The only sad thing, I guess, is that I'd like to come back to Europe, but now it's too expensive for me.

I love the TV show, especially the lead performance by Travis Fimmel. I also have a special adoration for the speaking patterns of the Viking characters. The showmakers took the time to get the stolid, sturdy feel of Norse conversation ("And so this is what I think," "I am sad, now," "If someone were to say that to me, I would kill him."), and to show the close feeling of Old English to our modern speech ("Sitten zee here."). I love it when the character bounce from Norse to Old English.

This not his tomb, it is called a « gisant » in french and 90% of the time these gisants are empty and are present in these places only for symbolic reasons and memory. This one is empty. This is not even the original one as this one is a copy of the gisant of a son of henry II Plantagenet, because previous Rollo gisant was destroyed during WWII 1944 bombings of the cathedral. It is believed Rollo body was still in the cathedral around 1063 but it is unsure, it’s also believed the tomb could have been moved to Fecamp by his grand son. To conclude, no one knows where the tomb is actually.

Every single individual knew that life is very transient in those times and they dealt with such short lifespans the best they could through belief and prayer or meditation. That is what it is.

He was the son of Swedish King Sigurd Hring. There is no actual historical account of him however, mainly because the Vikings were mostly not able to read or write. Nor did they keep records, books, scrolls, or journals as many Christian countries did. Some Frankish accounts of a Norse army raiding Frankia under the leadership of “Ragnar” do exist and often tie into the sagas of Ragnar Lodbrok. We also do have historical records of him residing near present-days Hamburg in Germany. However some today do argue that they are not the same Viking leader. Perhaps he was a warlord who was the first Scandinavian to reach Britain with a Battle ready force. He is mentioned in several Nordic sagas and the Gesta Danorum, which if I'm not wrong, is believed to be the most ambitious literary work in medieval Denmark, describing the early history of Denmark. Perhaps what we can assume is that the Ragnar Lodbrok shown in the show is an amalgamation of several characters, alive or dead. Also, he is surely the father of Bjorn Ironside and all his brothers, while Rollo being his brother is a purely dramatic addition to the show.

It might sound like a huge lie but i was also very surprised when i saw that. There is the proof with all the link
      🇨🇦 🇨🇵 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 🇩🇰 🇸🇪 🇳🇴 🇫🇮
(king Alfred "the great" of England).
Alfred était le fils de King Ethelwulf Of Wessex et le petit fils de King Egbert Of Wessex.

That's the name I encountered in what I read in various publications. I guess it's a modern Anglicized version of the original name. I don't know what his name would have sounded like in Norse or Old English or Old French, all of which might have influenced the pronunciation and spelling.

Wikipedia says, "Christianity was established in Rouen in about 260 by Saint Mellonius, who became the first bishop. The first church is believed to have been under or close to the present cathedral. In 395 a large basilica, with three naves, was built at the same site. In 755 the archbishop Rémy, the son of the Frankish statesman and military leader Charles Martel, established the first Chapter of the cathedral, and constructed several courtyards and buildings around the church, including a palace for the archbishop.[6]"
