Currently reading Hesiod for a Greek Literature class. You hit the nail on the head with the feeling I got with my "Greek Mythology" phase in my youth coming back to me while reading
I have just finished the poems and they were interesting read, not the best book of the world, but it's good.. not as I expected though, I have always heard of Hesiod thinking he was something like Homer or Virgil, but again, it wasn't that bad. I found the theogony kinda starts dull and hard to follow, then it starts to make sense and engage the reader.
Hurling thunderbolts is so passe.

You are a treat. Hey have you heard or read the story about Hesiod being an illiterate shepherd? He said angels made him write the Theogany! Which means yes, works and days would have been written by someone else!
Women! Yes, it is all our fault. I think we may be the only two booktubers to ever discuss these works... (And since I am thinking about reading a lot of ancient lit as translated by women next year, I must go find the Wender edition! Thank you!)
Haha 😆 it's OK I'm reading Sappho now so that's helping to balance things out a bit. Steve Donoghue did a daily penguin on hesiod so that's 3 booktubers! Thanks for watching :)
