It saddens me to think about how out of touch I am with my own culture, especially since my nationality is Mexican. I wish I didn’t grow up in a place with a predominantly white population. It made me feel ashamed of who I am and where I came from. So to blend in I tried to erase my roots, and now I’m just disconnected from the community. I think if I had experienced something like this when I was in school I would have been able to accept myself and have pride in myself. But it makes me so happy to see so many young kids/teenagers being able to embrace who they are today.
