I don't htink they are having a good time. Making a video game is stresfull work - I don't blame them for getting drunk a bit - they are unable to get to a bar like regular people - so the company provides one on their grounds after hours. Tech companies try to keep employees after work at the offices constantly. They provide all kinds of stuff - from fitness to game rooms etc ... they don't like employees to get home. Because they can call them at any minute an emergency arrises and it's a bug to fix. Unfortunatley that's not a good way to keep employees at. Specialy if some of them are literal creeps. In normal job, you would suffer them for 8h and then go home. And they would also get different outlets. But when people are required to stay in office for 12h or 16h even more ... yeah.... sorry you are stuck with a creep .... who is also drunk now. Only people having fun making video games are indie developers who do it for a hobby and not for money and have a regular job to pay their bills. So what if they spend more time than it is worth? It's a hobby. Even if they lose money, not make it, they will still do it ... just like people do with other hobbies. Once it becomes a job and focus is on profitability ... then it's another story. I know people like to think developers make games for hobby or passion, and are just a bunch of people having fun ... yeah if that was the case they would not survive for long. People have to make money to survive. Reality is it's a job. And peope take it as you or me take other jobs. They can't wait to have some free time - except they rarely get to during crunch hours.... which may last for months!

I feel so bad for Preach, man. He built an entire company to create content for everything World of Warcraft. It's how he literally supports his family. And now he's done with it completely? I can't even imagine what he's planning on doing next. I just hope it works out for him, and for other content creators that feel like they can't morally continue to cover World of Warcraft. Honestly so sad. I played Starcraft 1 Brood Wars when I was in middle school and the cinematics were INSANE and after that I started Diablo 1, Diablo 2, Warcraft 3. They need to stop charging subs until they figure things out. When FFXIV 1.0 announced that a rework will be done, they stopped charging subs and allowed players to continue playing the game for free.

I work in the industry and ive heard nothing but good things from EA's studios from an employee's perspective - Its always the devs that everyone praises that are the blood sucking leeches. We all knew CD Projekt was going to crash and burn a few years ago, you guys should really listen to people in industry more often when it comes to stuff like this - and when I say that I don't mean journalists. Didn't know a single person in industry excited for Cyberpunk. Customers are way too biased, I'm glad people are stopping worshiping these companies. Studios are not the same if 90% of the staff leave.

I don't htink they are having a good time. Making a video game is stresfull work - I don't blame them for getting drunk a bit - they are unable to get to a bar like regular people - so the company provides one on their grounds after hours. Tech companies try to keep employees after work at the offices constantly. They provide all kinds of stuff - from fitness to game rooms etc ... they don't like employees to get home. Because they can call them at any minute an emergency arrises and it's a bug to fix.
Unfortunatley that's not a good way to keep employees at. Specialy if some of them are literal creeps. In normal job, you would suffer them for 8h and then go home. And they would also get different outlets. But when people are required to stay in office for 12h or 16h even more ... yeah.... sorry you are stuck with a creep .... who is also drunk now.
Only people having fun making video games are indie developers who do it for a hobby and not for money and have a regular job to pay their bills. So what if they spend more time than it is worth? It's a hobby. Even if they lose money, not make it, they will still do it ... just like people do with other hobbies. Once it becomes a job and focus is on profitability ... then it's another story.
I know people like to think developers make games for hobby or passion, and are just a bunch of people having fun ... yeah if that was the case they would not survive for long. People have to make money to survive. Reality is it's a job. And peope take it as you or me take other jobs. They can't wait to have some free time - except they rarely get to during crunch hours.... which may last for months!

If game is good, people will play it, as simple as that. There's many game that break the normal norm and became a genre or specialty of their own. No one knows what to expect, but if its great, people would think "well I didn't expect a game can be this way or I never know I needed this in a game and I love it".
Gamers always have a rough idea of what they expect of a game. Most common one for MMORPG would be "I hope it wont be p2w", "great story", or "good combat mechanic (which i think WoW did great based on what I've heard".
Its seriously so fucking weird when consumer get fucking called off by a company that claimed that the consumers are ignorant and don't know what they want.

There's one time when Valve didn't release a halloween event, players spammed "Diretide" on Volvo page until Volvo get scared of it. Yes, the car manufacturer Volvo. Since then Valve never dare to skip on the event. Despite this, I've never seen the playerbase hated or complained as much on these companies. Why? Because Valve is a decent company, and so maybe is Riot in terms of their games.
My point is both side sucks, but to call their own player ignorant and not knowing what they want is outright dumb. You played a game for decades and doesn't know what QoL or patches thats needed? I call BS on that.

Honestly so sad. I played Starcraft 1 Brood Wars when I was in middle school and the cinematics were INSANE and after that I started Diablo 1, Diablo 2, Warcraft 3. This company is my childhood, I've played every single one of their game and it went from my favorite company to now, I don't even want to touch their games cause it's Blizzard's game....
