- Ok, it's not that the mixing advices are bad - they're misunderstood by people. 🤷♂️
Using reverbs or delays on tracks, sidechain solving all kick and bass problems, "over"compressing and finally - LOUDNESS. We need to talk...

People waste too much time worrying about mixing and mastering that they forget about writing a good song. Don't watch mixing and mastering tutorials, just concentrate on the music!
Exactly that! Great music first 💪
Totally and all these guys teach is everything BUT how to write a song.
This is what I came to realize past few years
Couldn’t agree more. I will listen to a shitty bedroom recording of a great song before some polished turd.
Glad to be among the chosen ones to say I really like your approach on loudness, dynamic range rules 💪
Love your content Zdrewe, keep it up please :)
Congrats on passing to level 4 😅. Well, I still feel like it deserves more explanation but hey, that’s not the last video 😎
Sure does, I'll see you there then 😉
Love your videos man !
would love some more ableton beat videos and ableton hacks!
Means a world! 🙏 ain’t going nowhere my man 🫡
Always fun watching you & big attention to all details in video editing! 💪🏻
Thanks a lot!! 🙏 hahaha yeah I actually feel like I over edited this one 😂
@@Zdrewe you‘re welcome man! I don’t think it’s over-edited, but I feel the passion you’re throwing in each and any new video ❤️
Thanks for this, I almost felt ashamed for mixing in to a limiter, but now I just know Im producing on the edge 😊🎉😅 Great stuff as always mate! ❤
Thanks for watching a whole video, means a world 🙏yeah I don’t know why people are afraid or hate that
7:16 A Wild zdrewe appears at the after party!! 😂🎉
I swear I only ate one piece of cake with this weird white topping
Great video, keep on ricking!
Top tier video! Question about the echo ducking, is it essentially ducking the level of the echo?
Exactly that Michael, and since you’re NI guy, there’s the same feature in Replika 😉 thanks a lot btw 🙏
Legendary! Love the content.
Appreciate that man 🙏 thanks for watching!!
i checked a dimension track recently, it had like -1.5lufs short term and that made me so happy to see. loud is goooood
Excellent vid, had no idea Echo had ducking!
Thanks man 🙏 I have more hidden features of echo in mind for my next vid 😎
@@Zdrewe Looking forward to it, it's nice to see someone fresh who is not recycling the same tired old stuff 👍
I did for the last 9 months a deeply focus on certain things to improve quality. I decided to take a time apart from making music and concentrating on quality. Now I’ll return to making music, learnt enough and I‘ll be really excited too see how it‘ll be now with way more deep understanding
My man, i got youtube premium to watch your videos in the airplane. Thank you so much for straight forward tutorials, I'm taking notes of everything you say
I appreciate the commitment my friend 🙏🙏
My thoughts exactly man, music's about FEELING not -whateverthefuk LUFS bs
Great Vid! Whats your opinnion on Kickstart 2? I use it to Sidechain the Kick and 808 (Also on Melodys sometimes)
Thanks 🙏 it’s cool and fast and if I remember correctly, version 2 has an option to filter frequencies. By far it’s the “healthiest” way to duck bass. As I said in the video tho - if you’re looking for the pumping sound, there’s nothing wrong with that
@Zdrewe thank you man. I also used the envolope follower technique, but for me personally I like the sound from Kickstart 2 more. Maybe it's because my 808's have already a "kick" in it and thats because I like the "ducking" effect more.
@Pature sure thing, if you use 808 with a lot of attack, ducking method is a go to majority of times. We could go into details like layering those two kicks, aligning phase and bla bla bla but just like I said in this video between the lines - whatever works for you!
The secret is to gain match everything, then listen. Do whatever you want, then just choose the version that sounds good.
@bitemyshite Not good advice for those who don’t know how to do it for sure. Mix engineers are definitely a must!
When I started I used to send almost everything to aux reberb track but now I don’t. I want only specific sounds to have reverb on and tailored to them. So instead I use effect on the sound, but most of the time as an effect chain on 100% wet and dry chain. Helps me to edit and listen to sound and effect separatelly if need to.
I feel that it also depends on a genre. For more “classical” sounding ones like pop, rock or even trap, auxes work great and can glue the mix. Speaking of EDM, there are no rules honestly
It can just be an artistic choice though, I once bussed my violins to a reverb aux panned to the opposite side of the original signal and used automation to make it sound like the swells were being catapulted from the left to the right. It sounding incredible.
i like you, you cool. I wish i knew this stuff back when i started producing in high school, i was always afraid to do stuff and try things because of some UA-cam tutorial "TIPS" and "Dos and DON"TS"
producing has become more fun for me since i stopped giving a fk.
Damn right, the less you care about “standards”, the more fun you have. Obviously there’s a need to find the balance to end up with listenable thing but being too careful is not the way. Thanks a lot btw, appreciate you watching 🙏🙏
Could you also use Chainshaper in multiband mode to duck lower frequencies only
Yup, you can split it to 3 bands and use individual curves for each
Normal listners don't even care if your mix is literally perfect or not. they just want good song with decent mix. prime example of this is imanbek remix that won grammary
How come I didn't know Prism was free. THANK YOU :)
You’re welcome! Way way better than Span (plus it has more and easier options to analyze multiple tracks)
Would you mind elaborating on why it's a good idea mixing into a limiter? I don't really get it :D
As short as possible, mixing into it helps to level things correctly (if you’re not great at leveling) plus you can spot any conflicts like kick and bass early on. Then you can decide on either re-leveling or applying sidechain/frequency ducking. I linked my video where I explained it during the process
@@Zdrewe Ah yeah makes sense, gives u a peek at what mastering the shit's gonna be like lol, haven't thought of that. Will start doing here on out
@bitemyshite honestly I can’t agree more. I think the problem lies in how people interpret all of those mixing, mastering and producing videos (my ones as well). From all the comments you left here already I’m pretty sure we’re on the same page in therms of adopting knowledge and probably even the experience we have. It’s not that everything you see online will instantly apply to your music with great results. Best example is how people (including myself) tried to use the advice from early UA-cam tutorials into their music - except those videos mainly focused on live recordings while we tried to use tips on our programmed drums (for example). It’s really hard to put some people on the right path even if you disclose everything before delivering the advice
Absolutely agree with the both of you! I would add remaking music to that list. Sort of goes along with referencing I suppose
7:40 💀💀💀
The best mixed songs hardly have much going on in them.
Depends on the genre buddy
you are a funny guy
