Hello, I live in Sweden and have been the happy owner of several Great Danes. I think it's so lovely to see an American Great Dane that has muscle mass without being clumsy. In Europe, we are used to a Great Dane being a combination of power and elegance. Thank you for nice and informative features and good luck in the future!
FYI.. I use Vicks I rub some down the back legs and near her butt and even on the tail. There are sprays and powders out on the market also for this. I learned when I was younger while I had horses that putting vicks in the nostrils of Stallions would prevent him from smelling a mare in heat. So that being said.... so far the Vicks on my Doodle has worked No Male dogs showed up and believe me where I live people let them run free. It does not make the hair/fur greasy I rub it between my hands than then on my dog I'm not using alot alittle goes a long way.I hope this can help as we go through the heat cycles with our girls. I do not plan on spaying until the Doodles are 2 to 2 1/2 years old and my Great Dane Skye is just going on 10 weeks old she look's almost identical to Roxie. I'm thinking the Danes mature slower so probably in the 2 1/2 to 3 year range for her spay. Thank you for sharing your journey with Roxie your helping me more than you'll ever know!! 🥰🐾

She is Gorgeous and I think My Jax would be in love! lol my Dane knows my animal channels after a week, we just subscribed give it time and Jax (my Dane) will know your voices and he will even watch the vid!!! He loves my monkey channels! lol BUT wow to me this is like looking at my guy's soul mate! She is BEAUTIFUL!! really wish we lived closer!
So i should be coming to the end of her 1st and only heat soon. I've heard it's safe to get her spayed 1 month afterward? Did you chip and do the stomach stitch thing too at that time? Also, I've been told the big Elizabethan collar is a lot for Danes. My trainer suggested a cowl-type neck collar instead. Your thoughts? We love Roxy. Tinsley is an American Blue. Thank you for telling me to be prepared. It really saved me.
I would do enough research that you are 100% confident in when you want her spayed. I was told 2 years so they are fully matured, but it seems like there’s a lot of different opinions on this topic. I was encouraged to do both those procedures at the same time but haven’t had enough female dogs where I know if it’s the most optimal or not. I would probably adhere to your trainers advice, I’m sure they have plenty more experience than I would be able to offer. Thank you for your support.
My neighbor dog used to break into our house during my Danes heat she started her Period oct 25, 2023. Today is Jan 14 2024. She’s just now shows pregnancy symptoms but still no bump so idk 🤷🏼♀️
Would love to know where you got her doggie diapers. The largest we could find didn't fit as well as Roxy's. Our girl Arwen just went through her first heat at 10 months as well.
D-pin? And you take the diapers off when they go outside and then you put a new one on typically when they come back in based on how long they’ve worn it.
I almost hate to think of that beautiful dog not having puppies. However, Great Dane Rescue of Northwest Florida has wonderful adoptable Great Danes almost daily. So I feel good that you aren't. But she's sooo pretty.
I've talked to several veterinarians who said that large breeds need to go through 1-2 heat cycles before spaying due to hormones needed for growth plates.

Coconut in dog food atleast 1/2 table spoon has very good benefits on dogs health and coat.

6-12 months they will have the first heat.

At 7 years. You spay your GD when she is a PUPPY!!! BEFORE the first heat!
