This video took a tonne of time and effort, so I hope you enjoyed it. If you want more car content I suggest checking out Big Car (nnerd.es/BigCar). Also, I don't usually ask this, but if you happen to enjoy my content please consider subscribing and clicking the bell icon. I've been told many times recently that my videos aren't showing up in notifications anymore, which is a little disheartening! Thanks for watching, see you soon!

The ‘not showing up’ is because even fully notified subs are being curated by YT now. Sometimes it’s just a delay in notification but it’s getting more common that the video doesn’t even show up in your subs tab! I frequently (every couple of minutes) refresh my subs tab when on UA-cam and I still suffer this issue. Platform seems irrelevant as for me it applies on PC, iPad and android. Kudos for the correct spelling of tonne and balls to UA-cams algorithm.

Honestly, both are technical and mechanical creations. They are the same consept, a solution for problem, but for two different purposes.
I find myself watching old two-stroke diesel generators and vintage equipment restorations way too often just because it is fascinating how people overcame problems before the current solutions came to be. A solution to problem, using the knowledge of it's time.

Ahh, so nice to see the Renault 19 given some love! My old 19 TS was the first car I ever bought with my own money. It had 60,000 miles on it when I got it, and I then drove it another 100,000 miles, all over the UK, from Cornwall to Scotland. I taught two of my friends to drive in it, and it helped me move house five times. It carried everything from mattresses to surfboards. In all that time, the only thing that ever went wrong was a broken fan belt. Sadly, eventually it was consumed by rust, otherwise I'm sure it would still be running today.

What a great video - a real departure from your normal stuff, but frankly, it was worth the effort - excellent. The mother-in-law had a dark blue, 4-door 1.9 which I did a lot of the maintenance on, and I was always impressed at how easy it was to work on. Some real thought had gone into it. It lasted a long time and did many trips back and forth across Europe.
We later bought a 1.8 16V Laguna serie 1, which turned out to be one of the best cars I've owned - superb vehicle: I was sad when it had to go.
    More like this, please!

Definitely restore it, and please give us updates of its progress! 🙂 I hope that it gives you many years of enjoyable service, and I suspect a lot of your followers will be interested in seeing how your ownership experience goes! 🙂
When I was a child, my parents also had a Renault 19, a white 1.7 TXE, G458 XMH, so I too have a slight soft spot for the model, and find it sad how rare they've become. My parents have had 4 Renaults: an 11, the aforementioned 19, a 2001 Clio, and most recently, a 2009 Clio. I much, much prefer the older Renault models to the current 1s.

There's a connection between viewers who like old cars and those who like other old technology. So you are sure to get plenty of new subscribers from this, even if it feels off-topic to do.
(My channel is about old audio/video technology, but when I featured my Hillman Avenger as a New Year special, it earned a good number of subscribers.)
Very well done, slick and painstakingly produced. The effort really shows. It was interesting to someone who has never taken any notice of Renault cars before.

Thank you for this love homage to my first very own car! I remember it well, with some nostalgia to be honest! I had a 1995 one so a bit more modern but still, ones first car is still ones first car :)

I’m French and I love cars too.
I’m a bit more into Peugeot but you did an amazing work !
I don’t think that someone already did that for a 90’s French car !
    Thank you.

Great film, Peter! My Mum had a pre-facelift Renault 25 when I was little and it was a great car. Sadly it eventually cooked itself in the Australian heat, as she could never find a mechanic that would take her seriously when she said the temp gauge sat about 30% higher than when it was new. I believe someone bought the car after we traded it in and engine swapped it, I'd love to do something similar with one but would go EV.

Loved the video. A car from my childhood too. When my parents sold the house, back in our home town here in Argentina in 1996, the buyers gave us a '94 Renault 19 RT 1.7 in dark grey as part of the payment. I always wanted us to have a car, so I enjoyed it very much... Although it didn't last much as a few years later my sister had an accident with it, she was ok but we never could fix the car and had to sell it for scraps. I now own a '93 Honda Civic LX but I still have the faint urge of getting another 19, a 16 valve if possible. Cheers!

Does this mean that Big Car is about to release a video called "The Sinclair ZX Spectrum Story"? :D On a more serious note, this is an enjoyable change of pace... there's nothing to say that you can't be nerdy and nostalgic over cars!

Only Renault I'd ever look twice at was the R5 Turbo, but every car person knows there's always that one nugget you remember more fondly than motoring history ever will. Congrats on attaining your personal classic!

You missed out on a hell of a lot of good cars, then. The R5GGT is the one everyone remembers fondly but I'd sooner take a 21 Turbo or a Chamade 16v over one. And just wait until you got to the 1.8 16v Clio (same motor as the Chamade and 16v 19 hatch) and the RS cars.
I remember the R5 fondly but a well kept Clio 172 would feel like a F22 Raptor compared to a Me509. Both great planes, just leagues apart.
