Your comment made me laugh in agreement haha. "Talking turtles! How ghastly!" He goes on to grudgingly admit that kids are very interested in that stuff. It's not going to be Shakespeare quality storylines, but kids are into that.
I played that turtle tape over and over when they did the shells tour. I recorded every cartoon episode on the vcr when they aired and had the games, toys and thensome. Of course turtles were a HUGE part of the 90s and carrying on today!

15:00 I was born and raised in St. Louis Park, MN and I bought most of my Turtle figures at that EXACT Target store. Holy Bananas!!! I think it was around the time that the 2nd movie turtles figures were released that Target moved the Turtles merch mostly to the other side of the isle, although I still recall oddball Turtles items still on that same side, like the Leonardo Cave Turtle box set. I have a very distinct memory of picking out Genghis Frog but my mom wasn't a fan, so she urged me to instead by Ace Duck. When she wasn't looking I switched the figures and it wasn't until check out that she noticed what I did and she gave me that disappointed mom look. She bought me Genghis Frog regardless.
Wow. Amazing job! The amount of effort it must have taken to mine through all the footage. Thanks for the comprehensive look back at a massive part of my childhood.
Thanks man, glad you like it. I made a documentary about the star wars vintage line of toys. It is here on the channel, may be you'll like it also. Regards
Thanks for this!! been a TMNT fan since the late 80's. Was raised on He-man as a kid '83 onwards which kind of died down around '87 then Thundercats took over (which I wasn't that blown away by at the time). But when Teenage Mutant HERO Turtles (I'm from England) hit it was an amazing time!
I was born in 85 and I feel I was the perfect age for it too First movie I saw in the theatre was the original TMNT movie This documentary really hit home Very nostalgic
Thank you very much for commenting. I'm glad you like it. Right now I'm remastering an independent movie I made 10 years ago. I think I'll have it ready to upload at the end of February, so stay tuned!
I'm an 80s female baby and I still watch All the new versions of turtles. My favorite is the CG series from 2012-2016. They have gotten better at the years go on.
With regards to the violence - just talk to your kids. I watch the TMNT movie with my nephews (9 and 6), and when the scene with Casey jones came on, and I paused the video. I asked "now that the woman has her purse back, do you think you should chase down the bad guys, or call the police" They both said "call the police". They can understand that the characters in movies might make bad decisions, and that the movie is a fantasy. We also discussed how all the kicking and punching is just dancing. It's all choreographed by actors, and kids get that.
My favorite color was decided by my favorite turtle. Leonardo was that turtle! A lot of factors was decided by the turtles as a child. Very BIG part of my childhood!!
I was in the middle of the craze in the early 90s. In my household, we (my brothers and I) didn't have tons of turtle merchandise. We had action figures, but we only got them for birthdays or xmas. I remember once Xmas, one of my mom's best friends bought us like 4 Casey Jones' 😂😂 Me and my brothers were NOT mad. I think the absolute biggest turtle merchandise we ever acquired was the turtle van, and then the beach cruiser buggy that came out a little later. Never had the blimp. Never had the playset. We never BOUGHT a Shredder. But we found one at a playground once. Pretty cool. My brother got Bebop for his birthday. I got Rocksteady for mine. I know that kids today have cool things to check out. But sometimes I wish that I could share with them what the turtle mania was about right as it was started and happening. There was nothing in the world like getting a holographic TMNT sticker out of a quarter machine at the supermarket. Nothing was cooler than TMNT t shirt. I remember my brother had this pink shirt with Michelangelo sitting at a school desk looking sad with a speech bubble that said "When's lunch?". Smh- when the arcade game came out- mama Mia- it was earth moving 😂 -sigh- how we can't appreciate glory while we're standing in it.
Thanks man, I'm remastering an indie movie I made a few years ago. It's a simple movie, and it's in Spanish, but I hope people like it. I think it will be uploaded with subtitles in several languages by the end of the month
This takes you back to that magical era where nintendo and teenage mutant ninja turtles were all the rage. The turning of the tide after the amazing 1980's cartoons and toys. TMNT was everywhere and I remember some gas station even hired costume actors to strum up business and we have pictures with them and all of the amazing ninja turtles items we grew up with. Everyone still discusses the turtle craze. When you think about the ninja turtles it brings back memories of how amazing the early 1990's were
37:24 my 4th birthday was that December. Between Nintendo, Ghostbusters, TMNT, Sailor Moon, Magic Power Rangers and Pokémon, SO MANY "fads" hit when I was a child. And how many of them are STILL around
I never even have looked into the turtles that much so it surprised me too see how deep and how much love was put into and had for this franchise. Very enlightening and had a sweet ending. Good video.
I just started watching the TMNT 2003 and 1987 animated series and reading the comics, you did an amazing job making this documentary!! I wasn’t aware about the turtle mania and it’s so interesting and awesome to hear about how this four radical turtles took over the world during that time!
Was (and still am) a huge turtle fan. Watching the movies and shows in the early 90's. I had a bunch of toys left in their packages until my mother got mad at us and burned them all up. Lol
I was 10 years old when the Turtles Cartoon arrived on the scene, you couldn't avoid 'Turtlemania' for the next few years, it was mind-blowingly huge, absolutely everywhere. Good times 😃
Loved this. Thank you for taking the time to make this amazing documentary. So much I have never seen before. Loved TMNT as a kid and it’s so cool to be able to still enjoy it now in my 40’s! 🐢 🙌
This is fantastic so far! I can't wait to see the rest, but thank you for putting together such an amazing piece of TMNT history! We'll be sure to plug it next time we review some TMNT stuff on our channel!
Thank you for your kind comment. Right now I'm working on a Star Wars documentary. My channel doesn't specifically specialize in TMNT, but I hope to do another documentary about them in the future. In the meantime, I would like to recommend you my other documentaries, they are not about the Turtles, but they are also Pop Culture related. Thanks for watching. Regards
TMNT from me is just like Star Wars, DC comics in Ghostbusters, properties I liked as a kid and I’m still a fan of today but even as a kid my brother and I felt like there were some things that they didn’t need to do with the turtles. We were so excited for the third movie and it was the first time my brother and I remember being in a movie theater and asked our dad if we could leave the movie early because it was such a bad movie. It did start to feel like they would try to sell kids a 2 x 4 as long as it had the turtles logo on it at one point. We also remember getting the ninja turtles concert VHS tape for Christmas or something like that and again even as a kid I thought it was terrible. Really ever since the second movie came out I feel like I’ve been waiting for someone to take the turtle seriously again. We live in an age where DC, Marvel and Star Wars are making billions of dollars with movies and television shows people love. I honestly wish Nickelodeon would sell the turtles to somebody else because I don’t think Nickelodeon knows what to do with a comic book property. Do you rebooted movies which we’ve gotten to of, I actually like the first one and I was more excited for the second one because Stephen Amell was going to be Casey Jones and we were finally getting bebop and rocksteady. But that movie made the same mistake with the turtles that started happening Around 1992 and 1993 with the turtles and it felt too tacky and didn’t know if it wanted to be a comic book movie for the entire family like DC and Marvel do or a movie that was targeting five-year-old’s. I know they can make a great turtles movie or a franchise of a series of movies that both kids and adults can enjoy it’s not that hard to do and I really hope we get that eventually because the turtles deserve better than what they’ve been getting the last few years.
Thank you for sharing your experiences with the ninja turtles. I think the same as you on some things. The third movie was not very good, although I have good memories of the musical tour that I was able to enjoy here in my country as well. Thanks for commenting and watching. Regards
I love this art how each turtle has different skin tone, besides the different color bandana talk about creativity TMNT has it in spades, and to this day the TMNT is still recognized by both young and old.
I was the right age for Turtle Mania and I had all the figures. When I was 15 I sold them all at a yard sale something I didn't regret until I started collecting figures as an adult. I'm about to turn 40 on Monday and my little sister surprised me with all the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie accurate Neca figures as an early birthday present. Six double figure boxes so incredibly detailed, as I sat there just amazed on how awesome they all are I told my sister I'm about to be 40 but you made me feel like I was 7 again and that's the best gift of all.
The c-span speaker, despite his apparent intentions, can’t help but give the Ninja Turtle phenomenon a sinister edge. Definitely exudes antagonism and weariness with his child’s strange inclinations. Good doc. Love the old 90s footage.
I thought the same. I think it was in jest, but there was certainly a "omg i hate these things" implication there. I liked the creator of the Turtles adding how its the same as the 3 Stooges, the "violence" isnt real.
The television footage and news reports are not something you see in most ninja turtle documentaries. This really showed the reach of the series into pop culture. Someone talking about it does not compare to seeing archive footage of it. This really took me back. Did you read the narration?
Thank you for your kind comment. No, I didn't read the narration unfortunately I had to use an AI text to speech, because I speak Spanish. My English is not bad, but not good enough for such a long text. In my Aliens documentaries I made the narration myself, but the speech is much shorter. Thanks for watching. Regards
This was my childhood. My dad hated toys, but he loved the turtles. He would take us every few weeks to get turtle toys. He didn’t have much money at the time, but he always put some away for us. He bought us TMNT IV for the SNES, took the day off, and called us out of school to play it with us. It was the first and only time he ever did that.
I'm from Argentina and here the TMNT were a complete success for sure. We even had a TV show called "el show de las Tortugas ninjas" they even showed the episodes and other stuff on it. We had the first couple of Archie comics from the TMNT translated (I've even learned how to read with those, they're really special for me) and of course all the merchandise, some bootlegs and etc XD 48:25 That kid was a actor from our country, he got famous at that time and I can't believe you added this on the documentary 54:43 What, Paul Rudd doing a Turtles in time spot? That's so cool XD 1:09:02 Wow, Thuy Trang (RIP), David Yost and Austin St. John doing a TMNT spot or something, i never seen this before. I guess this was on the last years from the first TMNT series around 93 😱 1:09:18 Bulk admiring Shredder XD 1:09:35 David Yost saying "Cowabunga dudes" is priceless ❤️ A little story for the end of my comment: when i was a kid i was using a pacifier (i was 3/4 XD) and one of my sisters told me if i throw it out I'll get a TMNT figure, of course, i did it and it was the Rap Mikey from one of the first line, i still have it ❤️❤️❤️. Thanks for doing this amazing documentary

I had the most fun searching for new TMNT Playmates toys from 1988-96. When I was fortunate to find a job at a then famous toy store right after high school I was disappointed. NO Turtles toys in 1999. I thought maybe re-releases as a Toys "R" Us exclusive just like the Stars & Stripes G.I. Joe line? Zip. Nada. Nothing until 2003 reboot cartoon line.
@@petercostaarchive5482 I found some of the 1996 Playmates re-issues in December '98 at KB Toys. Later Big Lots received some of these figures in the Summer of '99. Very strange that Playmates Turtles disappeared from Toys "R" Us. Maybe they were waiting to release new toys for the 2001 WB cartoon that was eventually cancelled?
Excellent video I remember seeing the first TMNT movie and taking a pic with Ralph who was my turtle. Man this & Pokemania were great times to be alive good times!!

Good documentary! I was in high school when the comics first started showing up in our bookstore's comics section. I loved the juxtaposition of the gritty black and white art style and violent martial arts action with the absurd notion of baby turtles turning into superheroes. I'd had a lot of real turtles as pets when I was a kid, so I knew all about them. I'd also been into the ninja craze in the 80's and had always loved comic book superheroes, so the combination of all of that still really appealed to me even though I was about to graduate by the time turtlemania took off. I enjoyed the cartoons and color comic books too, not minding the changes from the early comics. It was great to have a new craze to get into. Made me feel like a little kid again. The cartoons and videogames were a lot of fun for study breaks in college. We had a Sega Genesis and an SNES in our fraternity house, so we had fun playing those together, especially the fighting games including the TMNT ones. I liked playing as Leonardo best because of his dual katana attacks. I'm glad that Nickelodeon and IDW are keeping the TMNT fires burning so todays kids can have fun with what is still one of the best ideas in comic books. It's cool that Kevin Eastman even still collaborates on some of the comics.
Thank you for your kind and complete comment. I am happy to receive these types of comments because they contribute to the memory of the turtle-mania phenomenon. Sharing, as you have done, the memory of playing the video game with your friends will surely serve as a memory spark for another turtle-maniac. Thank you so much. Regards
I was in intermediate (middle) school when TMNT exploded on the scene. I still loved the cartoon though and although I was out toys by then I still thought the toys looked great 🐢
Great documentary!!! I was there when turtles first hit with those original toys! I definitely was caught up in the turtle mania - and it’s still a treasured part of my life with the new shows and getting to know the original comics from Eastman and Laird.
Definitely remember this, loved my TMNT toys back in the day and even today into my late 30s I collected a few of the more recent LEGO TMNT sets just for my display case.

Your comment made me laugh in agreement haha. "Talking turtles! How ghastly!" He goes on to grudgingly admit that kids are very interested in that stuff. It's not going to be Shakespeare quality storylines, but kids are into that.
A wonderful Documentary and a trip back to my childhood. I will carry these four guys in my heart forever.
Thank you, I´m glad you like it. Regards
I played that turtle tape over and over when they did the shells tour.
I recorded every cartoon episode on the vcr when they aired and had the games, toys and thensome. Of course turtles were a HUGE part of the 90s and carrying on today!
I also used to have a collection of tmnt vhs recorded by me when I was a kid.
Finally got round to watching the whole documentary, these are so good man. Bringing back the rad memories and good times expertly, thanks for another awesome video. Keep them coming 👏👌👍
I will, thanks for commenting and watching. Regards
Wow the exact place! Amazing. Thanks for watching and commenting man. Regards
Wow. Amazing job! The amount of effort it must have taken to mine through all the footage. Thanks for the comprehensive look back at a massive part of my childhood.
Yes was a lot of work but it was worth it! I made one documentary about star wars toys, perhaps you would like it also. Thanks for watching. Regards
Pure Nostalgia from beginning to end. The very beginning about the 90s I was recognizing almost every single image shown. Great job on this Video.
Thanks, glad you like it!
I was born 82 so this was a FAN FREAKIN TASTIC documentary. Surprisingly a lot of interviews I still haven't seen.
Glad you like it! Thanks for watching and commenting.

Yes, an amazing time it was! Thanks for commenting

I still collect turtle figures also. Thanks for commenting

First movie I saw in the theatre was the original TMNT movie
This documentary really hit home
Very nostalgic
First comment. Nice documentary. Great footage I hadn’t seen in years or hadn’t seen before. Looking forward to more!
Thank you very much for commenting. I'm glad you like it. Right now I'm remastering an independent movie I made 10 years ago. I think I'll have it ready to upload at the end of February, so stay tuned!
This is crazy how much information this shows, makes me feel like a kid again.
Great! That was my goal! Thanks for watching and your kind comment. Regards
It wasn't until the TMNT movie came out that cemented TMNT into eternal pop culture. One of the true TOP 10 pop icon of our time.

I'm an 80s female baby and I still watch All the new versions of turtles. My favorite is the CG series from 2012-2016. They have gotten better at the years go on.
CG series from 2012-2016 are cool also. Thanks for watching
With regards to the violence - just talk to your kids.
I watch the TMNT movie with my nephews (9 and 6), and when the scene with Casey jones came on, and I paused the video.
I asked "now that the woman has her purse back, do you think you should chase down the bad guys, or call the police"
They both said "call the police". They can understand that the characters in movies might make bad decisions, and that the movie is a fantasy.
We also discussed how all the kicking and punching is just dancing. It's all choreographed by actors, and kids get that.
I agree. Thanks for watching and commenting. Regards
Fun fact James Avery the guy who played Will Smith's uncle Phil on the fresh Prince of Bel-Air was the voice actor for the original shredder.
Great voice! Thanks for commenting
Born in 83 here. I got Turtle mania so bad when I was a kid. Nothing but love for it then and now 💚
Thanks for watching and commenting
My favorite color was decided by my favorite turtle. Leonardo was that turtle! A lot of factors was decided by the turtles as a child. Very BIG part of my childhood!!
That's a good observation. that's true!
My cousin one Leonardo at a playground once! And i remember I was very jealous! Thanks for watching and commenting. Regards
Another brilliant pop-culture phenomenon documentary! Your work is amazing and cannot wait for future videos!! Thank you again.
When you think about the ninja turtles it brings back memories of how amazing the early 1990's were
Yes the 90s were awesome. Thanks for watching and commenting
Yes. Tmnt, star trek, star wars, nintendo and power rangers were some my childhood
What i love about the turtles is that every generation gets a new version to enjoy
That is true! Thanks for commenting
37:24 my 4th birthday was that December. Between Nintendo, Ghostbusters, TMNT, Sailor Moon, Magic Power Rangers and Pokémon, SO MANY "fads" hit when I was a child. And how many of them are STILL around
Yes, luckily are still around! Thanks for watching and commenting
When the toy aisles were all tmnt carded back figures just hanging there , waiting to be bought and played with … great memories
Glad you like it. Thanks for watching and commenting. Regards
I never even have looked into the turtles that much so it surprised me too see how deep and how much love was put into and had for this franchise. Very enlightening and had a sweet ending. Good video.
Thanks for your kind comment. Glad you like it

I just started watching the TMNT 2003 and 1987 animated series and reading the comics, you did an amazing job making this documentary!!
I wasn’t aware about the turtle mania and it’s so interesting and awesome to hear about how this four radical turtles took over the world during that time!
Thanks, glad you like it! Turtlemania was awesome!
Peter I know this takes so much time to put together. Good Job man!
Thanks man, yes, it was a lot of work! Thanks for watching and commentin!
This brought back so many fond memories. I was born in the late 80s so ninja turtles was a big part of my childhood that i'll always cherish.
Thanks for commenting and watching
Turtles Forever! Excellent documentary dude!
Glad you like it! Thanks for commenting and watching
"Like". When the first minute of a documentary is already awesome
Thanks man. Glad you like it!
Was (and still am) a huge turtle fan. Watching the movies and shows in the early 90's. I had a bunch of toys left in their packages until my mother got mad at us and burned them all up. Lol
The toys you see in the documentary are also from my childhood. Thanks for commenting
The part that said what it is like to have a turn humble comic book to a mota media franchise and they were shown all the turtles, that made me 😢❤
Thanks for watching, glad you liked it. Thanks for commenting!
I'll be drinking out of my TMNT Ghost Blender Bottle while playing the Cowabunga collection as I wait for the release of Shredder's Revenge.
Good plan! Thanks for commenting
I was 10 years old when the Turtles Cartoon arrived on the scene, you couldn't avoid 'Turtlemania' for the next few years, it was mind-blowingly huge, absolutely everywhere.
Good times 😃
Yes! Good times! Thanks for watching and commenting. Regards
Amazing job Peter!👌
Thanks! and thanks for watching
Loved this. Thank you for taking the time to make this amazing documentary. So much I have never seen before. Loved TMNT as a kid and it’s so cool to be able to still enjoy it now in my 40’s! 🐢 🙌
Thank you very much for your kind comment. I'm glad you liked the documentary.
Regards
I just finished it, and this was marvelous! Thank you very much for sharing this.
I am 44, and still love the hell out of the original TMNT cartoon, and video games!
Me too. Thanks for commenting
You are right. Thanks for commenting

@@petercostaarchive5482 its a really cool tmnt history video !!!
Those neca action figures are cool! thanks for commenting
I'm about halfway through, I gotta say I never realized how much shade they got from adults back in the day.
I dont know if it was that big of a deal, but it seems they had quite a big backlash at the beginning. Thanks for watching and commenting
It's funny growing up as a kid in the 90s and watching this now, I had no idea that these were issues when I loved TMNT as a kid.
Yes, turtlemania was huge, but we didn't realize it at the time
The c-span speaker, despite his apparent intentions, can’t help but give the Ninja Turtle phenomenon a sinister edge. Definitely exudes antagonism and weariness with his child’s strange inclinations.
Good doc. Love the old 90s footage.
Thanks for watching and commenting. Regards
I thought the same. I think it was in jest, but there was certainly a "omg i hate these things" implication there. I liked the creator of the Turtles adding how its the same as the 3 Stooges, the "violence" isnt real.
He’s a pretty good speaker, his son would consider it an honor to be part of the TMNT franchise.
I was born in 83'.
This was my childhood!!
Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
Thanks for watching
Thanks for sharing your memories. Regards
Loved turtles from the beginning of the comics.
Me too. Thanks for commenting and watching
I'm from Argentina and here the TMNT were a complete success for sure. We even had a TV show called "el show de las Tortugas ninjas" they even showed the episodes and other stuff on it. We had the first couple of Archie comics from the TMNT translated (I've even learned how to read with those, they're really special for me) and of course all the merchandise, some bootlegs and etc XD
48:25 That kid was a actor from our country, he got famous at that time and I can't believe you added this on the documentary
54:43 What, Paul Rudd doing a Turtles in time spot? That's so cool XD
1:09:02 Wow, Thuy Trang (RIP), David Yost and Austin St. John doing a TMNT spot or something, i never seen this before. I guess this was on the last years from the first TMNT series around 93 😱
1:09:18 Bulk admiring Shredder XD
1:09:35 David Yost saying "Cowabunga dudes" is priceless ❤️
A little story for the end of my comment: when i was a kid i was using a pacifier (i was 3/4 XD) and one of my sisters told me if i throw it out I'll get a TMNT figure, of course, i did it and it was the Rap Mikey from one of the first line, i still have it ❤️❤️❤️.

Thanks for your comment. It is always interesting to meet and share the experiences that each one had with these amazing lines of toys
This is one of the best videos I've ever seen on UA-cam.
Wow thanks man! Glad you like it!

Regards
