  • Invited @HoosierHistoryHunters for a dig at the Rail Dump today. It's always a great time when he's around. There's nothing that beats digging bottles and having a laugh with your friends at the same time. It was a beautiful Indiana day to get it done.
    A special thanks to my wife for videoing and editing.

    I like your easy going demeanor. Too many people are hung up on the monetary value or competition these days. You all seem to have real excitement on the history part and just enjoy the dig. That’s refreshing to watch. Keep digging.

    I think the plastic lid with the hinge on one side might have been from a false teeth container. My grandparents used them to store their teeth at night while sleeping.
    Just my thoughts. Thanks for the entertaining video on glass artifacts!

    Nice job guys, man that dump is shallow aint it?

      @IndianaDirtDigger  2 місяці тому

      Yes it is, about 3’ at deepest. I don’t think it’s the original dump. I think the real dump sits directly under a house and this is what they dug out for a basement.

    Love this kind of stuff....just a little constructive criticism... Could use some better close ups of the cleaned pieces so we can really see the words, dates, and details. Im sure that makes editing more of a pain tho. Maybe a water bottle for rinsing on sight, combined with a nice bright light for showing it off right away? You got my subscription. Looking forward to watching your channel grow!!

      Definitely appreciate it!!! I will certainly try and get better closer up shots of the bottles once they are unearthed. As far as lighting goes, it can be tricky in the woods with the sun and shadows.

    i know u prob upload for fun for your few loyal followers, but if you want to grow.. get more interest. cut the intro/bass audio from the first 1min,45seconds, to only the first 10-30seconds at most. get into the real guts of the video.
    YT stats and sharing works like, who looked, and who skipped after looking, if most people are skipping 10% of the video for the intro, YT says dang, ppl only watch 90% of less of that video, never 100%, so we should barely recommend it to randoms.
    Maybe you don't want to get more youtube views and im just throwing shit to the wind. Just simple advice, cut the intro down a lot, and you'll see more retention in the stats, which makes the youtube algo share you a bit more, the more retention you get.

      no YT algo comment thing... this video reminds me of going down to my grandma's... like 250miles south of me. im mid illinois the plains. down there it gets hilly. had a creek in her back yard me and my sis would walk down/explore when we went there for vacation. Found a bunch of the old.... idk how they called. telephone pole, the glass dome insulators i think. Quite a few old bottles down near the creek from past generations stumbling home drunk abandoning their bottles im sure lol. Good times and discoveries.

      Also, Id be careful of harsh sediment you may be rubbing on some glass. Better to carry a jug of water&/sponge to gently wash it off than to harshly rub sand and gristle against the bottle/your pants/sleeve with force & friction.
      If you ever find a decent coin that matters a lot. You can harm the face of an object by simply rubbing to hard with sand/gristle/sediment.

      Thanks I appreciate the critique! I just started uploading videos. I’ve been digging bottles for several years now but thought I would document my finds and have a little fun while I save some history! I’m very new to uploading videos so I will certainly take all the advice I can get! Again thanks
