Welcome to Sea Doo Adventures - Episode 172 - Crazy Day On Lake Erie
In this video, we are back down on Lake Erie and launching from Port Dover. Our plan is to make it out the the very end of a strip of land that sticks out into the lake call Long Point. There is a lighthouse out there so you know we are going to check that out. We deal with some rain and building waves as we explore the area but as always a n amazing day out on the water! Hope you enjoy this video. Cheers!

Next time you ll have to park at Turkey Point . A couple of great restaurants The Sandbar at one end and The Jetty at the marina .
The Sandbar you ran over is called Bluffs Bar , marked with a buoy at the tip. People fish and park there for the day .

My family vacationed at the Long Point inner bay. That place you visited at the end...Nanticoke...was visionary, I watched them build it from across the lake as a kid...it was "North America's largest coal burning hydro generating plant", the main plant and the stacks were enormous, all seemingly sticking out in the middle of nowhere. This was supposed to put Norfolk County into the manufacturing "big leagues" but it never worked out for various reasons, then the environment concerns put the plant out of business. The 1000ft lake freighters we see around the Great Lakes were often used for transporting coal to Nanticoke. The big docks in your video I'm pretty sure were for those 1000' ships unloading that coal. Good piece of history there, thanks Nigel for Mark's detour...always a trip back in time when I see a video of this area.

Oh wow that is so cool to hear. That must have been very interesting to see them build that place up. I bet it was something to see at the peak of it in action. Even today you can see what is left all the way from the tip of long point so could only image what it would have been like. That would make sense that the 1000ft Laker's would use that dock it was massive. Well thank you so much for checking out the video and the history you have let me know about very cool. Cheers!

That pipe you found is a vent for an old gas well on the lake floor

@@MarkForrestAdventures That's Bluff's bar. It is big, and lots of people are out there in the summer. Some boats have definitely run ashore there, especially at night. The first stop was at Pottahawk point, also popular with boaters in the summer as it is very calm.

@@MarkForrestAdventures The sandbanks on Erie can be pretty inconsistent you really gotta watch for them, I've never seen people run up on one but I have ran my ski up on one before.

Not sure if this will help at all.
The Garmin Echomap have a feature on the Fishing Chart maps.
You can color code the water depth.
    From the fishing chart map,
MENU > Layers > Water > Depth shading.
So at a glance you can tell the approximate water depth.Red is 0 to 5 ft.so start paying attention.
I still managed to end up in a foot and a half of water though!

Hey any tips are always welcome here! In the past I did that that shading set up but for some reason switched it and did not know how to get it back lol So thank you for that info. I was able to set it up with that blue shading that is like anything under 10ft but to have the it back with the red might stand out better so thank you. LOL right even with it we still end up just a bit to close hahaha

Hi Mark. Just getting to this video. Wow, the respective authorities need to put a second lighthouse out on that sandbar! That was shallow and got on you quickly...I enjoyed the drone shots. The montage of the two Sea Doos together was particularly cool and undoubtedly took some coordination. Also, the footage of and around the lighthouse was beautiful. Nice work...When you edited and found the music track in Epidemic Sound what did you search for out of curiosity? I see you can search by "mood."...The new camera and microphone seemed to work brilliantly! GoPro really needs to catch up with the microphones. I've looked at DJI and am grappling with sending $750USD to China for the camera and mic, but admittedly it seems to work really well...keep putting out the comment. I really enjoy watching you do a great job.
I did a really unique ride last weekend. I hope you'll check it out and comment/offer feedback: ua-cam.com/video/mrKG88ZVc5k/v-deo.html
    Cheers, Mark!

Hey Brian! The problem is that sand bar moves and is never always in the same spot more or less. It was on my charts but was a bit further out then what it showed. Ah yes love to get shots like that. For those I just tell them to watch me as I am watching the drone so that we stay close for the shot. Only do it with people you trust to ride close to you as you need to know they are making sure they keep the space why you are flying it. I normally just look for soft house or ambient for the drone shots. I hear you and yes I do wish GoPro would set it up instead of the same thing each time. DJI and Insta360 are really pushing the game for the type of gear we use. I understand not wanting to send your cash there but I go where the gear that makes my day shooting and editing the video easier and shorter and right now DJI is in the lead. Plus with having their drone and now the camera the work flow is a lot smoother to edit. But if GoPro caught up to this and made a Mic and a drone and A camera that all worked then I would be using that for sure! Hope that helps in some way lol Thanks as always for watching and I appreciate those kind words. Been watching your videos as well, I have really enjoyed them great work! All the best Cheers!

@@MarkForrestAdventures thanks, Mark. You've been a great teacher and inspiration from afar...soft house or ambient--noted. I typed drone flight into the search engine and got some nice music...I have two big Sea Doo trips coming up this week and and overseas trip later this summer. So, I purchased the DJI camera and mic this morning (most excited for the mic!) I'm sure I'll put it to good use. I'm running a GoPro 8 and 10, so it was time. But, I wish I was seeing my $ to GoPro...sigh...anyway, I appreciate the response. Reminder: check those hose clamps and bolts holding in the sponsons. Amazing how quickly they come loose. Until the next ride, cheers!
