Hi Simon, have you seen this in the guardian today? Chimney sweep whose death changed child labour laws honoured with blue plaque Youngest British person to get a blue plaque. It happened in 1875.The illustration of the boy used in the guardian appears to be a black child, but does not mention this in the article. The black face of course could be the coal dust, but the features such as the nose and lips are not European.
Disgraceful. The same article has a picture of the 7th Earl of Shaftesbury, outrageously shown as having distinctly sub-Saharan features and skin tone.
@@david1964. I think your right,as only an earl with sub saharan features can campaign for 35 years to outlaw children as chimney sweepers. No silly little white men would ever do such a great thing.
I love London I find it a bizarre fun buzz when I'm there I'm fascinated by London. And I'm really interested in paleontology and prehistory so you sir have written the perfect book. Thank you
Kudos, Mr Webb. I shall look forward to reading both. Chester (my area) is known for it's Rows architecture and Roman remains and I will be most interested to learn about our capital's history, in greater depth. 👌✨
I will be buying it as I am originally from Peckham and I enjoyed your book on the African slave trade. Prehistoric London, very interesting. I can't wait.
@michealhand1001 No you moron, the Mint in East Smithfield closed in 1974. In 88 the were major archaeology excavations carried out by the Museum of London.
Sounds great! Awesome idea for a series. I'll get it on audible if it makes it there. I'd like a similar series on other cities too. (York or Dublin would be my picks atm).
Simon, do you happen to know much about the area from Richmond Green to Richmond lock. As there are a couple of places I get a sense of history - corams field & Rosebery Avenue Viaduct but nothing like the entrance on the Thames to the old deer park along to the obelisks. But mainly south of the green. I guess the Palace is within close proximity but it's mainly from the green to the Thames the only time I have a living part of history X
Hopefully printed on paper in a book, it can remain as a reference for generations to come. Invulnerable to electronic digital editing and manipulations and corruptions, such as online reference materials. At least until the firemen come around seeking all the copies except the carefully hidden ones.
I hope you've included some colourful African characters and mention their critical importance in the founding of London. It will certainly garner nothing but praise from critics from the Guardian and the like. You might even be interviewed by the BBC.
Sonds fascinating and right up my alley. Right now I'm reading Europe Before Rome which is a site by site look at the archaeology of Europe from the Paleolithic thrugh the Iron Age.
You say that you have been busy lately. I have always assumed that when you are not making your videos that you are writing. That you are always busy. Sounds like a fascinating book.
I have a good knowledge of the history of London from the Romans onwards, but little about pre-Roman London, apart from Peter Ackroyd's History of London. I look forward to acquiring your book in due course.
One question that might not be answered by this volume, but perhaps the next, is was the White tower at the tower of London a refurbished Roman building?
Been following HD for a few weeks now Simon. Finding out you are an accomplished author l looked for some of your work. I have now acquired one of your books, "Secret Casualties Of World War Two." Excellent read, will be checking out your other publications. Best wishes and keep up the good work.

I think Simon would not set for anybody other than David Lammy, with possible collaboration of Angela Rayner and Diane Abacus for the financial and statistical estimates!

Some of the dinosaur races certainly went round attacking other dinosaur races, but I can't say what colour they were.
