Not having a dipstick is a deal breaker for me!
Ya it is pretty stupid. But, on modern vehicles you only need a dipstick when you have a leak. The vehicle tells you when you need an oil change and is accurate so at least theres that. Plus a lot of places now put the mileages for oil changes on stickers on your windshield.
Still should have a dipstick. Turbo engines and oil problems unfortunately go hand in hand.
@@Soulintent95 ?? There's a lot a dipstick can tell you. Coolant leaking into the oil, oil condition, etc. Plus... if you wait for the trucks comp to tell you when to change oil... thats a 10k interval, lol. Not good.
@@jerryjeromehawkins1712 you should try actually reading my comment. It is typed in the same language you are using. Also they dont all tell you to change your oil for 10k miles. Theres different kinds of oil and systems. That is common sense.
@@Soulintent95… and when it is leaking youll have no idea!
@@hajjdawood my comment is typed in the same language you are using.
The days of building things to last, is over.
People have probably been saying that for the last 100+ years..
And last decade of cars have tons of expensive issues and require a real old fashion mechanic not a dealer mechanic. Mostly because new techys are not wise to engines still need tuners old school mechanics and someone with elelctronic wiring smarts who can understand wring diargrams too and powertrain basics at least
@@ALMX5DPthe problem is pickup trucks didn’t cost 100k now. We dont want luxury vehicles that break down after 50k miles. Thats what the german cars are for.
@@Inferno45 price, inflation etc are a separate topic. Also there were really no luxury trims or models 25-30 years ago so that is a new segment that drives up the price of top spec models.
Yea just look at the tundras
BMW things that should have stayed BMW things.
Chrysler was the first to remove the dipstick, in mercedes models.
Yup, leave the silly gimmicky horseshit to the Krauts
What's missing from the new Ram pickup?? A THIRTY THOUSAND DOLLAR DISCOUNT
Yea I wouldn't care as much about the inline 6 if I didnt have to sell a lung and a kidney to afford just the down payment
😂
No dipstick? That's... certainly a choice. I'm a tech guy, but some things should stay analog, y'know?
Friends. Bmw locked up had oil leak couldn't check oil and the screen when out
@@MrBlaze256 .. Okay. .. Write much.
No dipstick. They've stated the sole reason for it's absence is cost.
I actually like having a digital dipstick. Hasn’t let me down yet. In fact, it’s help me stay more on top of the oil situation than ever before…important with high compression turbo engines.
@@michaelschneider-complain much?
The trend of getting rid of the trans dip stick has annoyed the hell out of me. Now no oil dip stick? It's wild how much they want to make the owner/consumer life harder.
Not harder simpler. We don't have to get out and crank the engine over anymore either. We can adjust the passenger mirror without getting out. Hell, we don't even have to use our hands to signal a turn!!
@@Dusdaddy is it more simple to replace a dip stick or a sensor for the oil...?
@@Null_Null_Null You're assuming a quick failure....So how many fuel gauges have you replaced in a modern car? Oil pressure sensor? Washer fluid sensor? Etc., etc.
@@Dusdaddy plenty sensors actually. O2 sensor, tire pressure monitor sensors, etc.
@@Null_Null_Null Considering how rough a life those two specific ones have; I'm surprised they last as long as they do. Usually, one per 100K miles. But guess what? Change it, and life goes on. If your oil level sensor dies, you can continue on, no need to call a tow truck. Not like the engine is going to die immediately or run differently.
CJDR is fkn done, Stellantis have been digging their own grave since 2022
Talk about going backwards! Nothing more reliable than a simple dipstick to check the oil. Like many people here, just this simple thing is a deal breaker for me.
Dipstick is a 3 letter word? Who’s the dipstick here?
Oil was the hint, think oil, think dipstick. Not that cryptic.
It's a stretch, at best.
But it’s not missing oil. He said “what’s it missing?” Hate when people do that then try to justify it. “3 letter word…” Oil? “Nope. The hyphendufenator!”
I refuse to buy a vehicle without a dipstick esp that newer motors burn more oil! Total bs
@CajunShrek But you Absolutely don't have a problem with flying on an airplane with the same system???
Newer cars don't automatically burn more oil, tf you on about?
@@BradChadley If anything you will have more of a heads up that your losing oil, and you could possibly get the engine shut down before you do major engine damage.

Everyone ignoring the fact straight 6 motors built everything really. Straight 6 has always been the real work engines.
Ram knew they didn't need two. There's already one driving.
😂
Removing the dipstick was a stupid idea...
They figured the dipstick was driving it
As a mechanic, most cars don't need one because most owners don't use them.
@@MrCthieke As someone who regularly checks the oil level in things, I'm not buying a vehicle that doesn't have one...
How nice of them to save themselves money by taking the dipstick away and charging you $10 thousand more for the junk Truck
Why do car manufacturers insist on frustrating car owners even more? The turn knobs and push button transmissions we're bad enough. Now we can't even check our own oil? All these stupid moves do is push away your loyal customers and force them to buy another brand that offers the features they want.
The goal is to force compliance with their process. It's all moneymaking. People buy their stuff, they have issues with electronic features or proprietary mechanical stuff, and are forced to go back to the dealership to get it dealt with. Makes them money not just on the sale, but an all of the maintenance down the road.
@Wolfsbane1100 Money for repairs doesn't go to the manufacturer. If anything they lose money because they're responsible for any repairs that are under warranty. After the warranty expires it becomes the customers expense and that money goes to the dealership that works on it.
Of course you can check your oil. Go through the trip computer .enu. it will show once the engine has cooled down enough. Many cars have had an electronic gauge since the the late 2000's.
@MotorScotti Yeah it's all fun and games until you put a lot of miles on that vehicle and the gauge stops working.
Salesman: dipstick is now electronic.
Me; *drives off*
What a disaster waiting to happen 😂
So much for right to repair....
The engine looks like a mess to work on its just cluttered
Ram is hurting as it is and now a 6 with no dip stick what the hell is going on in the truck market???
Sorry, dodge. I was interested in this new straight six but that took me off the market for one. Especially as a long time dodge owner, I know that even new some dodge engines burn oil and some don’t. I don’t want to gamble running low on oil and blowing up an engine.
lol...how is it a gamble? Now you could check it as you drive during a 300 mile road trip! You'll always be on top of the oil level. This is better than ever before.
@Dusdaddy - The electronic sensors have not proven themselves. The sensors fail to register HIGH levels or overfills. Also, the idea of not verifying the oil level before towing on a long trip, is a bad idea.
@@jameseroh6544 prove it. Show me the data.
@@jameseroh6544 Spot on.
@@Dusdaddyi think having both would be fine
Another swing and a miss for Ram.
Electronic dip stick just sounds bad 😊
Famous words when the first TPMS came out....
A lot of issues with the oil sensors. Many don't tell a person if it is overfilled or if it reads a quart low, it might only be 1/4 of a quart but the sensor isn't giving out the right information. My 2015 Silverado still has the transmission dipstick and oil dipstick. I plan on keeping my truck as long as I can.
Good thing I'll never buy one
Can’t have people doing maintenance takes money away from the dealers
The dealers are now resorting to “you can’t do your own maintenance” tactics to rape the customers. That 3.6 V6 is a oil burner and leaks like a sieve
If Rosco P. Coltrane were still alive I think he would say "Stellantis, you dipsticks!"
Hahaha… in my best Roscoe voice, "Kew-kew-kew-kew!" 😂😂😂
They’re going to lose a huge % of market share with no V8. They deserve it.
With no small engine vehichles, Ram pays billions in fines for not meeting CAFE fuel standards. EPA is to blame
Toyota dropped the v8 Nissan dropped the titan to avoid a new engine, chevys base is now a i4 your Chevy and ford will drop the v8 this decade
Oh no a new more powerful and more efficient v6 replaced it the dipstick thing is ridiculous but get over the whole v8

Just why? My truck chugs oil and I could not imagine a single benefit of a digital oil dipstick over something we have used forever at this point
@coolcosmic no it’s a 5.0 and I have been pushing that engine since I got a tune and some stuff done. It picks up and I’m always doing launches and racing plus I haven’t really broke the engine in. I just need to drive sensible, but if I wanted to do that I’d get a different engine
@coolcosmic 5.3 chevy use 1qt per 1000-1500 miles
@ricotrejo4125 that explains it it's a ford motor
The benefit is all going to dodge
@@tylersowa3858accept for their declining sales…
German car owners have been complaining about this for YEARS and we’ve been super vocal that we want our dip sticks back, they even still include where the dip stick it but there’s a plug meaning you have to find an aftermarket dip stick, why in the world would ram take it away
And yet you still buy the eurotrash, letting the EuroTrash know you're weak-willed and will just buy their slop.
A vehicle engineered for towing and carrying heavy loads but you can't check the fluids or do a basic pre trip inspection on it? Yeah that's a dealbreaker. I don't care if it's a Toyota, if I can't do basic maintenance and inspections on it, I don't want it.
Uh, you can check the fluids. Just as easily as before.
Uhh, who told you a 1500 was engineered for towing and carrying heavy loads?
That's what a 2500 or 3500 is for. 1500 is for groceries, hockey bags and the occasional single sheet of plywood.
@owenmonaco7817 my ford half ton can tow 12k. That's a pretty decent amount. Not "heavy" in the truck world but still alot of weight. Especially considering my 09 f150 was rated at like 8500lbs
@@the_ap_1561 can it really tie that much? Have you checked the actual numbers for your truck specifically, and all the fine print?
@@owenmonaco7817 idk about dodge but I've towed an 18 ft dump trailer weighing bit over 12,650 lbs in my F-150 with about another 400lbs of head room idk if you'd call that light towing.
Another dumb idea. I wouldn't buy one just because of that.
Transmission oil dipstick is one thing, but not having a engine oil dipstick is pretty stupid. I’m a person that likes to look at the oil to see what kind of condition it’s in. I guess they’re going to save 20 bucks or so per unit by not having one. Why don’t they just put both a real dipstick and a digital level sensor so we don’t have to assume that the digital level is right
It’s missing 2 cylinders
They must have used dipsticks to design this thing. No oil dipstick, no trans dipstick, no sale!
Wow, they modernized the Pentastar 6 cylinder. Surely, this one will actually be reliable, yea, not. You are an absolute fool if you buy anything built by Stallantis/ Dodge / Ram.
the 3.6l pentastar v6 is one of the most reliable engines out there, I have seen tons of them with over 200,000 miles. More reliable than the 5.7 v8 which eats camshafts.
@derekbernhard9191 The only engine the Pentastar is better than is the garbage Hemi. If you believe Stallantis / Chyrsler / Dodge / Jeep / Ram builds anything with quality, you get what you deserve. A bacon wrapped turd of a vehicle. This manufacturer is best compared to a supermodel with a chronic yeast infection.
These Chrysler Hurricane engines are all going to be falling apart within 1 weeks of the warranty ending.
No, they're actually already failing well within the warranty period. Plenty are failing with just 10-15k miles on the clock. They overheat and grenade (a feature chrysler has built into their cars for many years now LOL)
That is top of the list for dumbest thing on new trucks
And 30% of potential buyers just walked away
Wow, RIP to reliable vehicles with simple maintenance
Dodge "Reliable" since WHEN? Dude time to put the meth pipe down
Now there is only one dipstick to check and it will be behind the wheel of the new Ram.
That's funny 😁 and yet so true.
Garbage
Planned obsolescence.
It's missing about 1400lbs. Of additional payload.
I still don't get why class 1 trucks even exist.
Not even VW has done shit like that
Yeah basically can’t buy any new vehicles these days, over priced the right to repair has gone out the window shits crazy, take care of any old vehicles
its missing a customer base thats what
Just wait until you have to change the thermostat 😂
Noo... where they put it?
What's next? Sealed front engine cover??
What's missing????
I would've said reliability.
No dipstick??? I wouldn't have a Ram to begin with but if I was looking at any vehicle with no dipstick that would be a 100% deal breaker.
But I would like to say thank you to TFL for this review & warning people about little things like this.
I was thinking finally going back to a straight six then the no dip stick makes me wonder what other idiocracy they put into this thing when designing it
It’s missing it’s balls
Yea fk that
I don’t mind having an electronic means of checking the oil, but dang it - leave the dipstick there in case the oil level sensor fails!
At this point, I'm expecting some manufacturer in the next few years to literally say they've reinvented the wheel.
They don’t want you to know how much oil it burns
im sure when they revise the engine in a year or two it will come with a dip stick.
Or the dealer will sell a dipstick for $500
What’s it missing? Reliability!
No way!!!
When I was a factory trained McLaren tech, It was shitty when I realized that the 720s was not reading the oil level after a basic service. (had to access a menu in the cluster) That issue requires removal of engine to replace the pressure sensor between the valley on top of the block but under intake manifold. There was no way to access with engine still in vehicle. 😢
Oh hell no this is ridiculous the dipstick should not have been removed
Needs the Hemi back in it!
Ram is is digging there own grave at this point
Tundra said, "Hold my beer".
@@jebsdaddy141 facts 🤣🤣
More like why are all things missing
Is dipstick a three letter word???
Wrong answer. It's Durability, Dependability, and Reliability. But that's mostly been missing from all FIAT/Dodge/Chrysis-lers.
Must be cheaper to buy a sensor than have a dipstick made.
They probably use sensors to warn when the oil should be changed - meaning a warranty issue. If you drive with low oil a damage claim might be denied?
They're looking in the wrong place. A Ram 1500's dipstick is located in the cab, sitting atop the driver's seat and facing the steering wheel.
Trucks and new vehicles are getting r*tarded. I'll stick with my 2500 6.4.
As a mechanic I can tell you this is a MASSIVE mistake. The electronic telltale on German cars is a constant fail point.
You have to run the engine for 15 minutes to check level, inevitable that this will cost people big $$ at some point. It probably won't affect warranty claims but a Big deal down the road for owners and resale.
Ridiculous. I'm waiting for the new square/electronic tires. No rubber needed. This is the dumbest thing I've ever seen on a truck. I will never purchase another Stellantis product. Sensors might be okay when the vehicle is new or under warranty but a good luck as it ages
50 years old and on my 8th Chrysler product and will never buy another if this is the path they've chosen. If you use a truck as a truck, you need a dipstick. Now the only dipsticks you get from Ram are the engineers that thought this stupid shit up.
No dipstick mean oil change every 3000 miles and new oil level sensor every 60k
Okay, that’s the last straw! First the transmission, now the dip stick!
Dip stick
And how about 6yrs down he road.... someone in the market for a used truck can't look at the oil? Buy forever doge/jeep for me
Both would be great, digital and analog, but definitely not digital only…
This seems familiar.
It’s a Ram. The dipstick is behind the steering wheel.
Bout as reliable as a BMW. ALOT of plastic parts too
Doesn’t even look like an engine with all the plastic covering the engine. They make it even worse with no dipstick. Just stupid.
The plastic makes it more quiet
the only truck on the market i’d be interested in buying (even after being a huge toyota guy) is the f150 with the 5.0. everything else is just rubbish frankly.
I was looking at 24 tacomas and really liked the trd models and the 300+ hp numbers, until I saw the hybrid and electric motor. I’m not against it at all, I just can’t afford to be their guinnea pig on first models. I instead opted to be fords guinnea pig on a 7.3 Godzilla tremor, 10 speed. It has 40k so far, 0 issues. I like the power, even if the engine is old technology. It can drag 20,000 lbs uphill, it can spin 35s no problem, for 8,090lbs it can move. I don’t have much experience with HDs or super duty’s except for a 7.3 powerstroke with bank power mods and upgraded single turbo. I can’t say anything bad about that old 7.3 diesel at all. But my gas 7.3 can pull a house down if you can put the power down and keep traction. It has a locking front and rear as well. It’s pretty solid for a 2020 truck. New trucks are scary to me, blue collar guys can’t afford a $50,000 factory mistake.
I feel like this eventually runs into a right to repair issue.
Something else no one wanted to happen
Annoying as hell especially if doing your own oil changes so basically have to turn on the truck to check and pray you have put enough in 😅
If you can't figure out if you put enough oil in, you probably shouldn't be doing your own oil changes
