Not using floats for the pixel size on UI objects is a good one I'll have to remember, also the mouse up setting... Still have questions about latency and playback though; What would be an example of something not rendering correctly - its not something I've encountered and I would think it would be something obvious but would be nice to clear that up... Also, isn't the latency reported by Live in the status bar just what is set in the patcher inspector and not the actual latency? If Live can easily calculate the latency of a Max device to correct it for PDC, then what would be the benefit of manually setting the latency for the device? or is it simply so one can implement lookahead... Looking forward to future videos, Max is so addictive! :D
Thanks for this great series. I'm not so sure the advice about setting the LCD Display Style is always right. As far as I can tell, this changes the colors but not the pixel alignment. I think it depends on where the UI object is displayed: the LCD style seems to be intended for objects that appear in a black-background faux LCD display (such as the Map button in the LFO device) and the Default style is for objects that appear on the plain background (such as the Hold button and Time Mode toggles).
This series should have much more views and likes ;)
Great series so far! Had to learn the hard way over the last decade....
These are super helpful, thanks Tom and Cycling 74!
