- A traditional American song first written in 1899 by Ada Blenkhorn with music by J. Howard Entwistle. The song was popularized in a 1928 recording by the Carter Family. This acoustic rendition is in Open G tuning, fingerstyle on my Martin OM guitar.
Beautiful rendition of this great old Carter family tune, Paul. You bring out the melancholy deep inside the melody, underneath the cheery lyrics. I love it.
Thanks so much, Anne! I tried to convey an old-time Appalachian vibe and so glad that came through. All the best, Paul
Paul, the way you are weaving those melody lines in between the rhythm picking and strumming, you almost give the illusion (to my ear) that it is a 12-String guitar that you are playing at certain times throughout this piece. That is truly remarkable my friend. You are a supremely talented player. You make it look easy! - Jay
Thanks so much, Jay! I try to orchestrate a complete performance and make every note count-and it’s super rewarding to see such thoughtful comments! All the best, Paul
