He was the very first to go out and interact with his crowd, Garth Brooks took a cue from him. I met John 28 years ago this summer. (1988) I was working the Peoria, IL Civic Center & went down to get my ID. The door opened & it was John looking for the entry to the arena. Shook his hand. He was so nice & polite. BTW, he did a great performance that night :)

I started wearing brown penny loafers because of this video. It was preppy chic at the time. Mellencamp made it iconic.

It's really hard to dance and look tough... But he did as well as one could.
And he didn't even rack himself on that parking meter... and walked away from those splits.
    That's talent!

You see the home of heaven, and in your ear, you hear its'sound, and when the breath of your Creator whispers into your heart, you know Him. You can understand with your soul where you belong, and your soul can dance in the light of endless creativity, and you know who you are. You can be in complete peace knowing where your home is. I already knew that about you because of the music that comes from your heart. There's no need to wonder if you are appreciated. You have had mercy and compassion and grace by just one wink for a long time. Kudos

On this Saturday of November 2nd 2024, this is the first time I've seen this video since it came out on MTV. I was in love with this song and the video for the longest time. It made me fall in love with MTV. My lord, I forgot how good it was, the song and the video itself. I fell in love with John cougar mellencamp, Madonna, Judas Priest and a lot more. It was one of the best decades for music and television. And when they put those two things together and made MTV it was incredible, unforgettable, and right on the money for entertainment. I don't know of any other country on this planet that put something together this good.
