Personally I would throw much of 80's rock away along with the pretensions of the era. Mellencamp had none of that. One great record after another, the way it's supposed to be done.

He was the very first to go out and interact with his crowd, Garth Brooks took a cue from him. JCM's show never ever failed to deliver, and his music gives comfort and joy to people who ever heard him perform, no matter what year it is.
You're right on with that! I saw JCM live a multitude of times because 1. his music rocked the town, 2. no matter how large the venue you still felt like he performed just for you, 3. he lived his values and didn't sell out to the corporate machine.

I met John 28 years ago this summer. (1988) I was working the Peoria, IL Civic Center & went down to get my ID. The door opened & it was John looking for the entry to the arena. Shook his hand. He was so nice & polite. BTW, he did a great performance that night :)
I loved MTV, used to wake up turn it on and volume all the way up getting ready for school! Those were the days you didn't have to worry about anything, no cell phones, no bullshit!

On this Saturday of November 2nd 2024, this is the first time I've seen this video since it came out on MTV. I was in love with this song and the video for the longest time. It was one of the best decades for music and television. And when they put those two things together and made MTV it was incredible, unforgettable, and right on the money for entertainment.
