Much like Hunter Armstrong in the 100m Free. Fast swimmers can swim fast no matter the event. He's an absolute stud and deserves a huge amount of respect for racing that final as well btw, didn't need to given he was already on the plane. Could have scratched and relaxed but he just loves to race
Carson Foster split a 1:43.9 on the 4x200 relay in Doha earlier this year. Before trials he and his coach gave serious consideration to dropping the 400IM in favour of the 200 free. This is per their own comments. He couldn’t do both because (as always) these events are in direct conflict with one another. For reference Foster swam a 4:12 in the 400IM in Doha. Assuming Foster can, at minimum, replicate his Doha swim, including it with the 1:44.8, 1:45.3, 1:45.6 flat starts in the finals at US trials puts them right there. It’s an addition that changes the complexion of their relay…possibly their strongest leg…I wouldn’t be surprised if he swam the anchor for the US. They had 5 swimmers go 1:45 or better… not counting Foster. That gives them insurance. It would be nice if all swimmers were on their best for the big meet but as we know that doesn’t always happen. If one of leg of the British quartet is off it does more damage…the advantage GB has over the US in the 4x200 relay is smaller than assessed here…& there is less margin for error.

Maybe someone like Jackl can eventually get under 4:30 & do it consistently so that the 400IM won’t always be a Peaty/Milak/Ledecky style blowout for Summer each race.
Easiest predictions for Gold 1.Aus W 200 Free Relay 2. Marchand 400IM 3.Simmer 400IM 4.Ledecky 1500 5.Kaylee 200Back/Aus W 100 Free Relay In my opinion not east to guess any other events. Also, Michael Andrew and Claire Curzan should have been picked in the team!
@@propulsionswimmingpodcast he couldn't get on the podium in the 200m freestyle in his home championships in December. He obviously had a lot of attention on him after winning double gold in the 2022 World Championships, and he hasn't performed well in a major final since then. Most of his rivals weren't at the European Championships, so him winning there doesn't prove that he's gotten over the issue
