You legend. Well done mate. It is good to see people attacking this type of thing. Especially with all them electronics. To tell you the truth, I had my doubts as to it starting. Way to go. Looking forward to see how you go with the rest of it. 🙂

Hey thanks mate! It’s been a tricky project, but super rewarding as it comes together. More updates to come as I get closer to driving it… cheers!

Awsome effort well done, too many fg & fgx getting written off & wrecked in Australia.

Thanks mate! Over here as well the insurance companies are way to quick to take these cars off the road, hopefully this one will shine again! Cheers

Good stuff, better than it going to the wreckers. Where are your sourcing your parts, not easy to find in NZ

Thanks mate! Parts are tricky, but not impossible. I had help from the Nz Falcon club for most of the electric components, some parts needed to come from Oz (“Late model ford parts” in Minto, NSW), and standard FG parts for the interchangeable stuff were sourced all over as they are fairly common. Cheers

Small hint. You just buy a crashed writeoff to use as a donor car for parts especially the whole wiring harness as you need to change out the whole wiring harness that got wet. Doing what you did with the plugs does not work. The water gets right into the wiring its not just the plugs and causes corrosion and that in turn can drop the voltage down and some systems then start to crash as they need exact voltage, amps and watts. Might take 1 or 2 years but they will start to fail and you end up chasing your tail.

I also don't get it, this is illegal, once a car is written off due to water damage every single little thing has to be replaced with new OE parts and a massive paper trail.

Did water get into the A/C system? Did you have to evacuate the gas & regas it?

    • @nonrasputin9260
      @nonrasputin9260  Рік тому +1

No water at all in the A/C system, though I did need to change out the hvac controller as the servo motors seized up from the water damage. I would not have expected water to get into the A/C system as it’s pressurised/sealed. Cheers mate

So what are you going to do with the car now? Guessing from lack of plates, it is now dereg and basically impossible to put back on the road now that it's flagged for flooding? Even cars that did not get insurance written off can still have subsequent WOFs failed if there is evidence of flood damage. My car got flooded by the same January flood in Auckland but I was lucky with only a foot of water into the interior and being an older car only one electrical component (other than alternator and starter motor) was affected. I'm just hopeful it doesn't get noticed in subsequent WOF checks.

Still has plates, was not written off. If you do a decent enough job in cleaning up your car and replacing any/all components susceptible to water damage, likelihood is that it will continue to work. Check all the components I replaced, this was not a hack job by any means.

Well THIS car is going to be a nightmare for ever and ever. Hope you bought it cheap, cause it's going to cost a lot to keep fixing. Hardly worth it.

It was a decent sized challenge to begin with, that I learnt a lot on. I heard through the grapevine that it ended up getting deregistered and sold as a parts only car, so, in the end it, it’s life was only extended another year after the flood event.

how the hell did water got into the diff, thats impossible unless the diff has a breather line, its sealed on both ends and the diff is sealed, plus the transmission as well, you cant get water into the diff, more like someone put water into it?
Other than washing it all out and depending on if sewage water got inside the car you will never get the smell out of the seats full stop. Then you have to buy a good wrecked FGX and swap over almost everything, so much work for what to sell it with such a small margin its not funny your only going to make money on it if you do all the work yourself which you did other than aspects of thing others have to do which you have to pay for anyway, so more cost?🦘🦘✌✌

Heya mate, there is a breather tube on top of the diff, and one on the transmission also, which is how the water got in. After stripping it out, washing, rinsing with clean water, including seats etc, then drying out completely, there was no detectable smell at all. I needed very little in terms of parts to swap in, so in the end, it worked out ok. I did it mainly for the challenge, and I’m stoked it got to the point that it was back on the road and road worthy. There were things I couldent do, like, program a bcm or code in the speedo, but was lucky that the knowledge was out there to help. Not for the faint hearted! 😂 Cheers mate!

@@nonrasputin9260 mate you have done a fantastic job fixing it up, just imagine how much it would have cost if a repair place for all the different items would have charged you saved so much its not funny, maybe at least 5K all up, as you know they would be saying all new oem parts no less, new diff and transmission and then electrical parts as well. They are selling for over 31K with 186K kms in NZ, keep up the great work mate. 👌👌🦘🦘

@@7071t6 Mate, it would have cost a bundle, that is, if they would even take it on! Ford NZ stonewalled me and wouldent sell me any parts as their "policy" in and around water damaged vehicles. The FGX is a great looking machine and it did seem like a shame that it was heading for the scrapheap.... Thanks for the feedback mate, I really appreciate it, more car content on the way!

@@7071t6 I do keep them, until I sell them.... I only have limited space, so, some stay for ages, some stay for a short time, either way, for ones I sell, I drive them for weeks/months to make sure my fixes are complete and good for the next person. Cheers
