The soaked driving seat: do you know of anyone with a carpet vacuum cleaner (Vax type of product) fitted with an upholstery adapter? That would get a fair amount of water out, but as I've said before, you need a desiccant dehumidifier, to really do the job. Bon chance!
When I store my camper I always make sure the front end is about 5 cm higher than the back to make sure water does not get a chance to pool on the top. You don’t really notice it when you are walking inside. As long as it doesn’t affect your heater you could just add some wood blocks under the front wheels. Once you get the new ceiling cross braces back up it should make a huge difference. Have a Merry Christmas Alex, really enjoying watching your progress so far.🇨🇦
Take all the sky lights out take all the sealants off the van and refit them with new screws it the only way to do it and you want to be using stickflex sealants you can get it of amazon don't use know sealants it will leak again i promise ❤
Sealing ANY camper should start on the roof. Every crack, crevice and pipe vent and ceiling fan or skylight including the side rails of the roof and ladder and ladder screws. Then resealing the roof with a rubberized paint product. Next step is all vertical and horizontal seams on the outside sides including around all windows and vents, doors and watertank fill holes. Only then you move into the inside and start ripping out and replacing or you will have more leaks hidden behind your new fixes. Now that you have already stripped the inside and it isn't safe to be on the roof you should tarp the roof so no moisture will destroy your work inside. Yes I have worked in that industry 😉 It does look like a nice rig if you get it completed, great studio for your work for sure. Can't wait to see more
Now you know where the water is coming in it might help to keep a tarp over the top of the van. It should help the drying out process. I hope you and Layla have a happy Christmas and a merry New Year! 🎄🥳
Alex, admire your tenacity! Turtle is a bit of dinosaur in need of a lot of help. After all your work hope Turtle will be everything you need. Enjoy your videos. Thanks for sharing.
Be quicker and better to gut the whole interior to the outer skin, reframing as you go, tight fit solid insulation boards like kingspan and create a better work/living space layout than the pensioners/ small family it was designed for.
If I were doing this, I would remove everything but the cab area down to the chassis and build a little house on the chassis with all new materials. That may not be within the budget though. One thing I know about mold, if there is ANY at all left it will reinfect whatever materials contact it. Make sure to disinfect all surfaces before applying new materials. I love this project. Your uncle is very kind to help out. I would recommend watching some tiny house/camper life videos to see how others have renovated these kinds of vehicles; they have really good ideas about how to use a small space efficiently. Your youtube numbers are going up! Hurray! 🧡
That would be a major customisation and modification from the original, I don’t know how that would affect insurance or the government annual MOT safety inspection.
@@john_smith1471 Good point, they are strange about things like that in France, so many rules. What this young man had to go through to simply have his van registered (a 2-day process here) was in my opinion completely off the chain.
Several thick towels over the seats and placing something heavy on top will remove most of the moisture. Change out the towels if you need to. Please remove as much of the moisture as you can before the moisture has a chance to sours and causes mildew and a bad odor, which will be hard to get rid of. Just be glad it’s not summer, it definitely would be much worse. Placing one of the big containers of Damp Rid up front will help remove a lot of the moisture too, as someone else recommended, alone with running the heat. This worked great in my car when a window was left down and a thunderstorm moved through. 😏😊 Good luck. Love your optimism. May God bless you and your endeavors. May you have a wonderfully blessed Christmas. By the way. The key in my car often would not turn, finally figured out to turn the steering wheel out and back a little allowed it to turn. 😏😊

It is impressive to see how you do not let even the worst challenges stop you from just soldering on with the job at hand ; great quality to have ! A folded towel ,pressed down with a bit of weight and clanged regularly will draw ou the water from the damp seat bit by bit. Have a lovely Christmas !
Alex, I can't tell if the ribs you are putting in have a crown or hump on them. A piece of timber and a couple of acro props would make the roof higher in the middle temporarily until you get the crowned cross braces in. The amount of cross braces were originally just enough to get by as cheaply as possible. Don't be afraid to put in extra bracing where you think it needs support. This is a problem on all campers and motorhomes. Longevity is a dirty word to the RV manufacturers. I'm enjoying the build. Merry Christmas Cheers Terry
Alex, all that work will be worth it in the end. Your Uncle sounds like he has a great sense of humor too. That battery charger I love it, I am getting one for me, thanks for sharing, till next time.
❤❤❤ to start of, COVER the roof with a tarp so when it rains, water doesn't get inside the van... I I would suggest, when the weather is sunny you should seal the whole entire roof with a PAINT ROOF SEALER and also put DICOR around the sunroof edges seam, around the roof fan & or any vents on the roof, to seal it so water doesn't seap through .. Good luck with your renovation...
Alex what you need is a new rubber complete roof it can be rolled out and stuck down with rubber cement.then the sky lights can be cut out afterwards I’m afraid that’s the only way if you don’t see to the roof first you will be chasing your tail all the time hope you read this Andy
Use a Wetvac, it will help get the extra water out and any dirt out of the seat since the seat is wet, lol. The blower will definitely dry it too but the Wetvac would help suck all that extra water out.
You are an eternal optimist. 🐢Thanks for persevering... Would a tarp to cover the roof help keep the inside of the van dry? A shop vacuum to suck some of the extra water out of the driver's seat? 🎄 Happy Christmas to you too!
Yes, a shop vac would really take care of your water/moisture clean up. You don’t need a big one either. I know that over here in the US you can get a 2.5 gal size which would be perfect to keep in Turtle.
Merry Christmas to you Alex. Have a wonderful day . Enjoying watching the progress of the renovation. You’re a braver person than me to tackle this renovation. Your doing good though ❤

The key to refurbishing the roof is to clean everything so there is no chance of contamination from mold or any other organisms, and if the surface cannot be decontaminated they must be replaced. I would think the roof interior has to be stripped out, decontaminate the interior of the roof and windows, etc and replace 😮all softer materials such as wood, insulation, etc with new product. What is lurking inside walls and hidden from view often is the culprit in "sick house" syndrome.
unfortunate it wasn't built better.😢though you're going to make it much better. blessings your uncle is helping you make it right.🌼 maybe put rock salt on the seat to soak up the moisture. just a thought. vacuum up the salt thoroughly once it has absorbed the moisture to avoid potential seat damage. hoping you can seal up the exterior roof and exterior walls so that there is no more leaks. 12:00 the rhodedendron bushes are beautiful. why would the battery be dead ??? hoping the dead battery isn't damage to the battery.
The soaked driving seat: do you know of anyone with a carpet vacuum cleaner (Vax type of product) fitted with an upholstery adapter? That would get a fair amount of water out, but as I've said before, you need a desiccant dehumidifier, to really do the job. Bon chance!
Get a dehumidifier in there for a couple days and dry out the seat and any moisture trapped in places you can’t reach
Put a tarpaulin over the roof to stop the leaks for the time being. Please. 👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️🤩🤩🤩
Totally agree!
Thank you Alex, Merry Christmas !

What is lurking inside walls and hidden from view often is the culprit in "sick house" syndrome.
Only use sikaflex 522 outside
Nice work, Merry Christmas to you and your family.
unfortunate it wasn't built better.😢though you're going to make it much better. blessings your uncle is helping you make it right.🌼
maybe put rock salt on the seat to soak up the moisture. just a thought. vacuum up the salt thoroughly once it has absorbed the moisture to avoid potential seat damage.
hoping you can seal up the exterior roof and exterior walls so that there is no more leaks.
