cannot believe there are people out there who haven't experienced the good vibes of changing the entire colour scheme of your room just by switching out the duvet cover
Literally, I have a collection, 4 seasons duvet cover sets, various colors and fabrics, even some for the holidays😅 aren’t ppl buying duvet cover sets with matching pillow cases and at times bedsheets?? 😮 I’m culturally shocked!
Same wtf, I thought this video was a joke at first. I have never slept without one and know no one that does. It is actually really gross because you are not supposed to wash your duvet, at least not often. So all your sweat and dirt gets into the duvet. And also, duvet covers are much easier to wash and dry. And it is cheaper to buy one duvet and a few covers. Because if you have a duvet of good quality it is very expensive.
@@salmon1290 Maybe it depends on location or how you were raised. I'm 44,growing up we had bedspreads. A very thin decorative blanket that went on top of sheets and blankets. My entire adult life I've bought bed sets. Fitted and flat sheet, comforter, pillow cases and curtains. I've never even seen a duvet in real life.
@@robiendenhollander6333 Right? It's incredibly unhygienic to sleep directly against the duvet. Plus if she washed the duvet itself as often as you should wash the duvet covers (once per week) then it would be destroyed pretty quickly.
Just info The bed sheet is a fitted sheet, Flat sheets go between you and the comforter. If you get an expensive comforter like one with down, it can be expensive to get dry cleaned or be hard to wash if it doesn't fit in the washing machine. With the sheet or duvet between you and the comforter, you only have to wash the cover and sheets frequently. Also, standard pillows are like 28 inches long, queen pillows are 30, king size pillows are 36, and body pillows are about 54. I used to work retail where I stocked bedding
In the UK we have flat sheets as well but just use them as a more inconvenient fitted sheet, I have never understand why anyone buys them. It makes sense that you guys are putting it between yourself and the comforter.
I love my flat sheets. I don't know why people hate them so much, lol. I get really nice, high thread count sheets that feel way softer than any duvet cover. Plus, I can choose how warm I am by pushing the comforter down, but still having the lighter sheet to cover me.
Word of advice honey, turn the duvet cover inside out and put each hand in the two top corners, then with those two hands grab the duvet corners, then essentially shake it til it looks right… so much easier
Thankyou! I've tried teaching my kids (and husband....) that this is the easiest way to do it, but thats obviously waaay too complicated meaning I'm the one who has to change the duvets all the time.
Yes! I thought thats how everyone put them on and also thought duvet covers (we call then doona covers in Australia) were standard. I've never not had a dooma cover on my bed.
Waitwaitwait you've been washing your whole entire duvet *every time*? How long does it take to dry oh my god? Also, a much easier way to put on a duvet cover is to turn the cover inside-out, with your hands in the top corners, and use those corners to grab the corresponding corners on the duvet itself, then you gotta sorta shake the cover right-ways-out onto the duvet. You'll have to stuff the bottom corners of the duvet into their corners at the bottom of the cover, and then grab them and shake the stuffing back up the duvet to ensure everything fits properly, but it'll sure as he'll be a damn sight easier than whatever the hell you were trying.
washing a comforter is pretty easy it’s just like any other clothes in the washer and dryer. for some people it’s just easier instead of taking apart the duvet every time
I think we just have thicker duvets than most places. My duvet literally wouldn't fit in the washing machine and would take yearssss to dry. Literally everybody has duvet covers here and I've never heard the word comforter lol. Guess we're all learning 🤷♀️
I always grab the corners and dive inside the cover lol My dad used to zip me up and try to make the bed with me inside, I never learned how to do it properly 🤣
@@GillyFromPhilly nope. The duvet cover is the cover. This is what Google said about the difference between a duvet and a comforter. "First off, a comforter is made to be used as is - it's one complete, quilted piece. A duvet, on the other hand, is meant to be used with a duvet cover, coverlet, or top quilt. This makes a comforter a bit easier to use, but duvets are easier to clean."
In the uk we call a comforter a duvet so that's why it's called a duvet cover and we always have a duvet cover on because there's normally nice patterns on them and it can decorate your room xx
same in canada but comforters aren’t the same as a duvet. duvets are like a ranch version of a comforter. comforters don’t come with covers. it’s just a fluffy thicker blanket while duvets are more high end and come with loops on the corners to change the top layer while comforters don’t
same, I don't use pillows that require pillow cases so I've never used those before, I've slept at my grandparents house before and they would have it. But growing up I've never had that before
I think duvets are a rich person thing in the US… growing up we always got the comforter sets with the comforter, pillow cases, sometime it came with sheets and throw pillows and a bed skirt. They were always a good deal like $50 for all that and they were usually softer than the cheapest stuff bought separately…. It was rare to see a set with a duvet included
that's so weird for me, because i live in South Africa, and here a duvet cover is the norm. few people know about comforters and it's usually only the rich people who have them
In Australia you get the duvet cover with matching pillows, and sometimes even matching sheets for reasonable costs. If I had to sleep under a naked duvet I’d puke lmao.
I'm a mexican living i the UK and I didn't know this shit even existed haha I've never in my life needed a duvet cover until I came to the UK, things are very very different
Idk if this will help anyone but I find this strategy really helpful: •Turn your duvet cover inside out. •Put your arms inside the duvet cover and grab the corners (at the end without buttons) •With your hands still in the corners of the inside out duvet cover, grab the corners of the duvet. •Keep hold of the corners and shake the duvet cover so it falls over the duvet and it turns the right way out. (Idk if that makes any sense but doing it this way helps me so much)
Hi! I am from England and I can’t believe u haven’t heard of a duvet cover!! It is soooo comfortable! It can be uncomfortable on ur first night bc it’s brand new u just need to get used to it then it will feel so relaxing Edit: OMG! Ty for the likes this is the most I have ever gotten!!
Same here, but I can see why sleeping without one would actually be comfortable too. The duvet itself is very silky and soft - way too susceptible to stains though and often don't look that great, hence the duvet cover haha.
a tip so it's easier for you next time: flip the duvet cover inside out and line it up with your comforter. now you put your arms inside the duvet till, one hand in each corner. take the corners of the comforter (with your hands inside the duvet cover) and flipit again so the good side is out and the comforter inside the duvet cover. idk if my instructions are completely understandable but this is what I've been doing my whole life and it's wayyy easier
But your blanket , im assuming has a cover that is washed.. Mine is.. Specially in winters when we use cotton stuffed rajai, which is non washable.. The covers are a must.. Trust me we are more civilized than americans even if our cost of living is much lower than them.

I only know of it cause I have relatives overseas who sent us bed sets (comforter, top sheet, fitted sheet, and pillow case), but I’ve only ever used the whole thing when we got an A/C. Maybe because it’s hot and it doesn’t get too cold, and that most of us only have fans at home as opposed to an A/C or a centralized home so it’s more common to just have a thin blanket.
Ok cus I live in Scotland (even though I’m italian) and in Italy and scotland duvet covers are standard, I didn’t even know some people didn’t use them 😭

@@opheliamaples There's a lot of competing information in these comments then. Lots of people are saying that you aren't even supposed to wash the comforter itself, that it'll ruin it, and that's why you have the duvet cover.
Everyone: shocked that she's never heard of duvet Me: what's a comforter? Edit: lmao i didn't know this would blow up thank you to those who explained what a comforter is. Now ik 😁
Duvets are different to comforters. Also a flat sheet is just a sheet with no elasticated corners. I usually see people in the US use a flat sheet under their comforters so they don't have to wash them so often, just the sheet. In the UK most of us use a fitted sheet (elastic corners,) on the mattress and a duvet, (different to a comforter,) in a duvet cover. The sheet and duvet cover gets washed every week. A duvet is light and airy inside because it traps air for warmth. Some are filled with feathers but most a synthetic or natural fibre filling. Their warmth is measured in "togs."
Thank you; the confusion in the video and comment section were driving me crazy. Comforters get paired with a flat sheet to protect them; duvets get paired with a duvet cover. Comforters and duvets are not the same thing.
I've grown up in the US, and I always have used a soft padded mattress cover under a fitted sheet, a flat sheet, and a quilt. We have heavier, thicker quilts for the winter and a thinner cotton one for the summer. I wash the fitted and flat sheets with the pillowcases weekly and the quilts and mattress cover monthly. Never had a duvet, but I'd love to try one!
@@treelicker once you try one you'll never go back. You don't have to worry about the sheet getting separated from your comforter and tangled in your legs or anything like that. They are light because of the air in them so you can go up a few togs for winter but still keep the lightness.
@@treelicker I bought a duvet with a cover nice quality but to heavy and hot for the texas weather. It only came in handy when it snowed this year and last year.
Thank you for this. This is so interesting. As a Filipino, I only know bedsheet, pillowcase, and blanket😂 I've heard of duvet but I didn't know how it's different to comforter (a more familiar word used here). I most probably confused the two. Like how the rest of the world has bolognese, marinara, puttanesca etc. but when served to a Filipino it all becomes "spaghetti"😂 and anything with white sauce is "carbonara"
Yeah, I like to sleep wrapped up like a burrito, because I find that when I sleep with a comforter and a sheet, I get cold way easier, and I like to be nice and warm at night
Same here, I just got this warm fluffy blanket for my bed recently and I love it on cold nights. I tossed my comforter after that, cause the blanket was always warm, whereas my comforter was cold until my body heat warmed it up
Hey, quick tip. If you put your duvet cover inside out and put your hands inside by the corners, Then grab the corners of your blanket thingy and flip it over your blanket and shake it, it will make it easier to put on. I hope it makes sense ❤😂🎉
I didn’t know what duvet covers were for the longest time. I also didn’t know the word comforter. I just called it a blanket. It’s nice having one!
I’m shocked ppl don’t know about this like everyone where I’m from has a duvet and duvet cover with a pillow and pillowcase as well as a bottom sheet British btw
Comforters here in the US are meant to be used as is (no cover needed) and already come with patterns/designs. They are also pretty cheap around $20 - $40 and are lighter than duvet's so they can get machine washed weekly and be perfectly fine. Also here in the US people use the flat sheet underneath the comforter to sleep and that gets washed weekly.
Ikr 😆 I was thinking how would one ever sleep like this in a tropical climate. Also, I don't think they use those hotdog shaped long pillows. It is called kolbalish in Bengali and I use two of them 😅
Have you been to the mountains or hilly places? We got a whole subcontinent as a country. A comforter is not even close to being enough to keep you warm enough to sleep in those places
There is an easy way to put your duvet cover on. My ma taught me when I was a kid. You flip the entire duvet cover inside out, then match up the corners on one end of the duvet to the corners of the inside out duvet cover. Then whilst holding the matched up corners in place, just flip the whole thing right side out again and you don’t need to worry about shaking it into place, it will all match up.
I have never had a duvet cover, and the video made me question getting one bc I am disabled and she said it is a hard workout.. but now I want one again after reading your comment lol

After that she and her whole family got an education in blankets and bed sheets and the whole time we lived together we were much much conscious of the fact that something so fundamental for one of us might not be known to the other at all.
Fucking exactly, my family is poor as hell, barely gets enough money to buy groceries every month to the point where we had to eat only eggs every day for 3 weeks straight and we're just trying to survive and here these people are whining and disgusted that some people don't use a goddamn blanket cover like it's the end of the world. We're surprised because honestly most households in our countries know what a duvet cover is, even the poor ones. There are easier ways to get the duvet into the cover. I hope this makes sense: Your duvet has 4 corners. (Bear with me). identy the top corners (the two corners that will be nearer your pillows when your bed is made) and place them accessibly onto your bed. Now, take your duvet cover, and turn it inside out. Pop the entire cover over your arms, and put your hands at eat of the top corners. (Heres the magic) take hold of your duvet inner. You should now be holding the top corners of your duvet with the (internal) corners of your cover. While holding firmly, flip the cover back yhe right way, covering it as you go. Finally, give it one good shake to straighten everything out, and buttom the bottom closed.
I always learned you had a mattress pad, a fitted sheet, a flat sheet, then blankets, and pillow cases. I never really used duvets at all because I never really used a comforter, I generally use a bunch of smaller blankets because I don't actually have a comforter. My grandmother also used to have bed skirts to hide her bedframe.
Life hack: If you will ever do that again I know the quiker way to put it on, you turn your comfter wrong side and then you put your hands in there in the corners and grab comfter corners and you just kinda...put it in? I know I didnt explain it well I hope it helped❤
Inside out, then tie it, then roll it toward the opening. Flip the ends through the hole (turning it right side out) then unroll. Then u make tiny adjustments without the workout. Work smarter not harder. 😀
An easier way to do it is if you can hang it over your stairs or hang it over a balcony and shake it. Obviously don’t let go but hold it by the corners and shake it and it will help you put the comforter in the duvet cover. Xx❤

comforters are thick and used for lots of warmth usually having some kind of design on it, they do not need covers (but you can use one ig if u want a diff design) quilts are less thick but you can get different types (i have a thin bamboo one so its a lot cooler) and they go in the covers which will have the colour/design on it. coverlets are like comforters but a lot thinner, even cooler/thinner than a quilt and do not go in covers at all they will have a design/colour on it. this is how it is in australia anyway, my bad if they mean something else in america or other countries
A lot of bet sets do fancy looking comforters instead of doing a separate comforter and cover. Its cheaper for them to manufacture and less pieces to stuff in the package. Some stores definitely market duvet covers as luxury items, but you can also get them for $20 or less a lot of places.
I didn't know what the hell comforters AND duvet covers too for the longest time, but tbf, we don't use them where I live cuz it's too hot where im from.
I realized I never owned a duvet but always heard about them. We always got comforter sets which don’t come with duvets. I love it freezing cold anyways so I guess it doesn’t matter really.
The easy way to put your comforter in the duvet (especially on queen and king size beds) is to turn the duvet inside out, lay out out on your bed, lay the comforter on top of it, attach the corners to the ties, roll it all up from top to bottom, tuck the entire burrito through the slit at the bottom and unroll it. It also works well with comforters without ties.
for the ones without ties, I usually turn the cover inside out, stick my arms into the corners and grab the corresponding corners on the blanket. You can cover the whole blanket by just shaking the top (depening on the size of your blanket). My grandma even opened some of the side seams on the corners (about 10 centimeters or something) so you can grab the corners more easily
@@meriothearti was about to say this If its a really heavy duvet cover, i use clothes pegs to secure the middle of the blanket while i hold the top corners and shake

Calling her nasty but not realizing that comforters are easily washed with the rest of your sheets, unlike duvets which is why duvet covers are necessary 😪
I’m pretty sure comforters having a duvet cover is optional, I mean that’s why comforters have patterns and aren’t just a plain colour. Duvet covers are for.. duvets. Like, goose down; Plain white weird fabric filled with feathers, that’s why you need a cover for it and that’s why it’s not really supposed to be washed, it messes with the feathers and they take forever to dry and are extremely heavy when wet. A comforter is just 2 pieces of fabric sewn together with some padding in between, definitely not a necessity to have a cover for it.
Exactly! My parents had one which I hadn’t realized until now. It was just a fancy big blanket to me, with the plain white stuffing on the inside, just like a pillowcase. All these people seem to think they should be covering their regular comforters, which are usually just filled with poly fiber batting, like a quilt. Imagine putting a cover over a quilt because you down want to wash it, so you never get to look at the design
Usually, people layer their beds with a flat sheet under the comforter/blanket. They sleep under the flat sheet (tucked in between the flat sheet and fitted sheet beneath it) which prevents them from touching the comforter. If you ever come to an American hotel, you’ll see the same setup! Flat sheet under the comforter, and usually a quilt or throw blanket on top of the comforter.
@@bald_reindeerzz you know how duvets are plain looking, but you can add a decorative duvet cover over it? A comforter is like a duvet, except it’s decorated already. It doesn’t need a duvet cover.
That’s not the same thing lmao. It’s not like we have a plain duvet on our beds. We have decorative comforter and flat sheets. No need for a duvet cover when we don’t have duvets…

As a European, I'm shocked that duvet covers aren't standard in America.
They are
Same wtf, I thought this video was a joke at first.
They're very common actually idk where she has been
@@salmon1290 Maybe it depends on location or how you were raised.

Yep
Just info
The bed sheet is a fitted sheet, Flat sheets go between you and the comforter.
@@wr2899I’m in America and agree no need for a “fitted sheet”

Man you are incredible. Much thanks. You have solved for me a lot of ambiguity.
You've definitely helped me out when I finally decide to get one

Yes! I thought thats how everyone put them on and also thought duvet covers (we call then doona covers in Australia) were standard. I've never not had a dooma cover on my bed.
@@Dynysis which one is that you’ll have to try explain that to me because I haven’t heard of that one!!! 😂
That's so much work, it seems easier just to wash the blanket. It's only one load in the washer and dryer.

A comforter is more a padded blanket it's not a duvet as we'd know it in the UK.
Oh, that's why I saw so much confusion about terminology in another video. I didn't know some countries call the blanket portion itself a duvet.
same in canada but comforters aren’t the same as a duvet. duvets are like a ranch version of a comforter. comforters don’t come with covers. it’s just a fluffy thicker blanket while duvets are more high end and come with loops on the corners to change the top layer while comforters don’t

Idk if this will help anyone but I find this strategy really helpful:
•Turn your duvet cover inside out.
•Put your arms inside the duvet cover and grab the corners (at the end without buttons)
•With your hands still in the corners of the inside out duvet cover, grab the corners of the duvet.

@@treelicker once you try one you'll never go back. You don't have to worry about the sheet getting separated from your comforter and tangled in your legs or anything like that. They are light because of the air in them so you can go up a few togs for winter but still keep the lightness.

Lol. I didn't either until I accidentally bought one, and I was telling my friend that it was so cheap. My friend had to explain that I have to put the comforter in the duvet cover. I still prefer flat sheets w/ a comforter tbh. I live in a really hot part of the US but I like being fully covered while I sleep. You can’t really change the warmth in a duvet but, with a flat sheet, you can choose between sleeping with just the sheet or the sheet and comforter. Plus, fitted sheets, pillow cases, and flat sheets are often sold in sets here anyways
It felt so weird for me to hear “comforter and duvet cover” as an Australian we say doona and doona cover.
I was looking for this comment. I thought it was a doona everywhere
First time I hear doona and I like it! I wish we would call it that too everywhere!

@@rotisserie8444 when I say every household, I mean in the U.S. I live in California where it gets pretty hot but during the winters it can be pretty chilly. So...
I know what it is I just don’t use it cause it’s pointless buying another extra thing. And why buy it if it’s the same price as a duvet and I can get a comforter and I don’t have to buy the blanket and the top.
I’ve heard of a duvet cover, but never used it. It’s just easier to buy my sheets in sets which already come with their own comforter.
Hi I'm learning English! What's the difference between duvets and comforters? Google just cant seem to give me a nice a answer
@@sainaro2335 from what I've seen from other comments (I'm British so idk either) comforters are thinner and lighter than duvets. Since it seems they are easy to wash and dry + apparently are much cheaper than a duvet.
Meanwhile the idea of washing a duvet often is baffling for most because most washing machines and dryers don't fit them.
And cheaper!

An easier way to put the duvet cover on the comforter:
if u turn the duvet cover inside out then line the corners up with the comforter you can turn the outside in on the comforter... if that makes sense.
Ps. You can get thicker comforter i think it will be more comfortable
The best way is to turn it inside out and line the corners but then you roll it up put the rolled part inside the slit and roll it back out the right way it takes a while to understand but once you know how to do it, takes 2 minutes :)
The comforter isn't the same as the duvet. The duvet is literally the blanket you use to sleep at night. A comforter is more like a protection of dirt and dust you put on your bed over night but can also sleep under during winter when it's too cold.
@@brokenprincessofhell4743 a duvet is called a duvet because originally it was filled with duvet which is french for bird feathers. So they just took it from french. And you shouldn’t put your comforter in the duvet cover, only the actual duvet. The comforter goes on top of the duvet that is now covered by a duvet cover.
@@gmzakg the comforter goes inside the duvet cover. We upgraded from feathers to comforters awhile back.
@@Smaugette no, look it up. A duvet cover is made for a duvet since it doesn’t have a shell per se. A comforter comes already in a duvet cover by itself it’s filled so it’s supposed to make you not have to use a duvet cover. I would know, i live in Canada where duvets and comforters are a big thing since we have cold winters. You shouldn’t have to put your comforter in a cover, if you don’t use a duvet you could put a comforter inside a duvet cover but that’s like double covering which isn’t very useful
Growing up I didn’t even have a bed, of course I don’t know what a duvet cover is… it’s crazy how people get shocked when others don’t know things that’s common to them. Do you really think everyone on the planet has the same experience as you?
Nah of course not but it still is a bit mindbogeling when you actually meet someone with such a different life experience that you dont even know to ask about differences. I had a flatmate whod lived for years in Germany at that point (but only with other Indians) and until she saw my bed had never ever thought to ask how we survive winter with low heating and without using 100 wool blankets to stay warm (the only kind of blanket she knew).
News flash people. Not. Everyone. Can. Afford. Nice. Things. You're just lucky
@@almond2954 I think it's because in most European countries duvet covers aren't really just a rich person thing. They can be cheap and more cost effective since you don't have to keep wasting washes on a whole duvet. We're not surprised because it's a luxury some folks can't afford. We're surprised because honestly most households in our countries know what a duvet cover is, even the poor ones. If there's luxury to come from our covers, it's dependent on the design or material used, not the very act of purchasing one. It's not said out of predudice AT ALL so chill
Yea I slept on a mattress with a fitted sheet on the floor and a thin ass blanket.
no I'm surprised bcs duvet cover is standard thing in my country in every household. and you can buy plain cotton ones for cheap price
I grew up in Hawaii where it’s super warm so even though I knew about duvet covers I never used one because I mostly used top sheets or a thin blanket to sleep with, both you wash at the same times as your sheets so no reason to have a cover. Sometimes I would have a comforter but it was just for looks and I’d take it off the bed before sleeping…. It wasn’t until I moved to Alaska that I needed something thicker and got a duvet and duvet cover… so makes sense if you live in a warmer place to never have heard of it
Same, and as I still live in Hawaii we don't really need such thick blankets, I mean maybe if you have your ac blasting all day but considering electric bills it's just a fan. Comforters are really more for the aesthetic and that's it, because even our coldest nights aren't that cold enough to warrant one, like a long sleeve and socks will do. 😂
as a british person who lives in canada, when i moved here i couldn’t find duvet covers anywhere, they don’t come with a set of sheets, so i thought they just don’t sell duvet covers here, i’ve had to wash my duvet each time i wash my sheets, it turns out they sell them on amazon or ikea but they’re definitely more expensive than i remember them being in the uk
Lil tip for putting the duvet cover on: turn it inside out, put your arms on the inside and grab the corners (the ones at the closed side). Then also grab the matching corners of the blanket and wriggle the fabric of your arms onto the blanket. Way easier, no jumping and no getting inside the duvet cover.
This is literally my go-to method 😂

There are easier ways to get the duvet into the cover. I hope this makes sense:
Your duvet has 4 corners.

Flat sheets are great- nice and soft compared to a comforter and you get ✨adjustable warmth levels✨
And most duvets I've ever bought feel like sheets.
The way of the poor ✨
Tip: I do it inside out so when I finish tying the strings I just turn it inside out! If that makes sense- very helpful!
Inside out, then tie it, then roll it toward the opening. Flip the ends through the hole (turning it right side out) then unroll. Then u make tiny adjustments without the workout. Work smarter not harder. 😀

I’ve never even gotten a duvet cover when I buy a new bed set.
Its always sold separately and it is expensive, it definitely adds luxurious feel to your bedding.

Can you try this again?😅 i never had a queen size duvet before. And now i think changing the bed is so much more exhausting.
for the ones without ties, I usually turn the cover inside out, stick my arms into the corners and grab the corresponding corners on the blanket. You can cover the whole blanket by just shaking the top (depening on the size of your blanket). My grandma even opened some of the side seams on the corners (about 10 centimeters or something) so you can grab the corners more easily

Calling her nasty but not realizing that comforters are easily washed with the rest of your sheets, unlike duvets which is why duvet covers are necessary 😪
Well of course u wash the duvets (but u dont have to do it often) they are just comforters with boring colour and thinner material cause...u cover it😅
I’m pretty sure comforters having a duvet cover is optional, I mean that’s why comforters have patterns and aren’t just a plain colour.
Comforters and duvets are two different types of bedding. I prefer duvets because it's easy to clean the outer lining and is fluffy.
Ull grow into it dw

Omgggggggg I didn’t know anyone slept without a duvet cover 😭😭 would you sleep on a pillow without a pillowcase?? Madness
@@MAYBEE90 I'm sorry if this sounds stupid but what is a comforter I think we call them something else where I'm from
