  • ‘Virtually’ everybody owns a smart phone and as a result we find ourselves connected to the internet constantly. Social media is medium few of us don’t use. Even those who avoid or leave Facebook, instagram, tick tock can’t resist the likes of whatsapp or UA-cam.
Since its inception in 1996, social media has managed to infiltrate approximately half of the people in the world. Social network platforms almost tripled their total user base in the last decade, from 970 million in 2010 to the number passing 4.48 billion users in July 2021. It is now an integral part of our daily routine.
    - Should we just learn to live with it or should we be deleting it?
    - Can we train ourselves to make good use of it most of the time?
    - How does it shape our thoughts, behaviours and relationships?
    - What about its addictive nature?
I am sure many of us have done goofs on social media from regretting a post or sending a message/picture to the wrong whatsapp groups OOPS 🤭 . Yet we also experience benefit, from watching a documentary or talk on UA-cam, to staying connected to family and friends on whatsapp, to finding out alternate news on X (formerly twitter!) from the mainstream bias.
We also know the internet can be a dark place where cyber bullying has led to people taking their own lives to vulnerable young people finding themselves being groomed by adults pretending to be youngsters.
    - So what exactly is the right balance?
    - What is the ideal way to utilise social media?
Join iSyllabus for a 1 day course to discuss these very questions together as a class. Join us as we explore the ‘good’, the ‘bad’ and the ‘ugly’ of social media and collectively come to a conclusion on the way forward?
