San Francisco has never been a world-class city like New York City, Paris, London, or Rome. San Francisco rates in similarity to Baltimore, MD which has also become a sh!thole. Cities with big skyscraper buildings like Chicago and Boston have so much more to offer with established history and culture. San Francisco can't even compare to the incredible museums of New York City (The MET), the many in Chicago, and Boston's Museum of Fine Arts. Boston has the best seafood of any place in the USA, due to its location. Those tall hills in San Francisco are visually interesting at first, but are not a selling point as most cities in the world are not built on such, due to their impracticality.
Great reporting, Tom! We appreciate the honesty. It is best to be honest and real about the issues we are facing, so that we are able to find solutions that create success for businesses and families to thrive in SF. The lack of accountability by the citizens in this city never cease to amaze me. The issues only arise when one’s property is stolen.
The best way for a human being to thrive or a business is to leave California and go to Texas , Florida and Tennessee. California is a fourth world hell hole dump
it's crazy as I remember 15 years ago on Black Friday, I felt safe enough to walk ALONE (I was a very young girl) from Nob Hill all the way to SF downtown to shop at 2AM.... Nowadays I am reluctant to even go to downtown because I don't feel safe there anymore.
Surprise, surprise! (NOT!) This is what San Francisco has brought upon itself. I've lived here for 20 years, and I'm sad to see the policies San Francisco clings to. Well, this is what you're gonna get with these lenient policies! Hope you enjoy it, San Francisco lawmakers! San Francisco is now a dying city. You did a great job.
Didn't mention all the car break ins. As a Nor Cal resident- all my friends/family don't go to SF in latest few years b/c of the car window break ins, violent criminals, & homeless. Wish it wasn't so. And trust me- I didn't vote for these clowns in office.
It got so bad peolle started leaving their car doors unlocked so at least when they break into your car they would not break the windows out. Now the homeless get j side the car and poop. Can you imagine going to get into your car and there is a big pile sitting in the drivers seat? Californians and democrats are completely disgusting 🤮.
First of all, thank you Tom for your honest reporting. You’re the last of old guard from the Dennis Richmond days and it’ll be a sad day when you leave. Second, you hit the mail on the head when you said there’s no sugar coating it, something needs to get done. The Westfield mall area is prime real estate for foot traffic and everything mentioned is explicitly why I longer go there and why businesses are leaving. The real threat of being mugged, assaulted, or having your car broken into are VERY real. Open drug dealing and use is rampant. Drug addicts and people with mental issues wandering the streets, sometimes half naked. And if you can deal with that front, everything is so expensive starting with parking where you can get charged up to $7-8 for street parking. Fees and surcharges at restaurants. No one held accountable for any of this for years. The only major home is people of San Francisco are fed up with city leadership and vote out the mayor who has a track record of not following her own Covid policies, wanted to refund the police, would not address city problems until overwhelmingly public opinion was negative on the quality of life in SF, and abandoning the city during New Year’s Eve flooding in the Mission to watch the 49er game in Vegas.
I was there 5 years ago , dropped my wife off at this Nordstrom. She said a couple of chaps walked in ....picked up 2 suits and walked out😂. The Mrs said , the staff told them to not come back again.
They are making the responsible decision to close. It is not worth the lives of their employees. The people who steal, loot, and attack store employees is growing by the day. So many stores have closed already. The lives of their employees have been saved, although most are jobless now. It is so tragic that everything has been brought down. Kate Steinle just wanted to go for a nice walk along the bay with her dad, but she couldn't even do that. Shot - and she died in her father's arms. "Daddy, help me." Those were her last words.
Not true. I've been in San Francisco for long time. The 70s and the 80s were way were worse. It's not even close it's night and day. This actually the best San Francisco has ever been. Their is more shoplifting but outside of that it's much much better.
Wow I remember as a kid living in SF I'm always excited to shop in downtown. Yes there were homeless people and people who seems to need help at the time too, but never felt unsafe during day time. I didn't have to worry about getting robbed or shoplifters raiding any stores. I had a lot of memories shopping at the Nordstrom there. It's so sad that this is happening. One store after another closing. I feel like the stores located on first floor facing the streets are going to be next up to close (ie Artizia, Bloomingdale's etc.). I haven't been to down SF for 2 yrs....too scared to go there.
This mall was in many ways built around that Nordstrom. I wonder what will become of the space. I spent hours in their cafes (both Westfield and Stonestown) studying back in the day, drinking their 25 cent coffee.
Change the law and hold thefts, criminals accountable on what they did. Put them back in the jail like before. Unlike those politicians say they want to teach them to be good or giving them more and more chances. Who is giving a chance for regular people?
This breaks my heart. I absolutely LOVED San Francisco. When we lived in Portland, we drove down to SF quite often. I hope you guys figure it out. I WILL say, if your current leaders won’t get it done, you need to elect new leaders. Time to go back to REALLY punishing crime. There’s no other way. Build more prisons if you have to. You need to send a real message to those that commit crimes. If you don’t do it soon, you won’t have a city to save. SF will become Detroit.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I love this story. Well, they did ask for London Breed. Instead of voting for the best person for the job, their votes were based on skin tone. 👍
Business are leaving, regular people are leaving, wealthy people leaving but they still ignoring the fact that is all bad management and negligence for too many years. Common you have the higher tax in the country…maybe when all is gone they find something else to blame. Politicians are plague!!
I lived there when it first opened. Its sad that downtown SF as never recuperated from the homeless crisis. I have not line in the Bay Area for over 20 something years, but I still consider it my 2nd home, but this just is sad, this part of downtown has always had a homeless population, that I always thought was bad, but apparently it has gotten worse. But I think when you continue to have this problem over decades and decades, I just think the city does not want to do anything about it. So sad.
Is anyone surprised? San Francisco is a dump. I go to Nordstrom mall when I'm in the city and it's gone straight to hell. I used to go to Saks Fifth Avenue, but not anymore because of all the crappy people hanging out on Union Square.
The lady who thinks this is an excuse is wrong. I’m a nordies shopper and I won’t go there because it’s too worrisome to park and I don’t feel safe. If customers won’t come, then what’s the point.
It’s definitely not saving money on rent. When you’re getting things stolen so much and having drug addicts in front your store. There many reason for them to leave. It’s just to save money. That argument is valid but it’s a far from the truth.
I foreseen this happening 12years ago when I moved out the city. I just knew it wasn’t going to be a good place to live in the direction it was heading sad 😢
I left there, too, in November 2014. I moved out of the state, too. Taxes are too high in California, and San Fran voters always approved of more and more taxes for the city residents. Also, all the stupid, leftist policies that citizens of that city would vote for pushed me out, too.
Elections have consequences. The electorate gets the government they deserve. We have the same problems in Minneapolis, MN, and the citizens here keep re-electing the same pro-crime, anti-business, no-limits-on-government criminals.
Sad to see SF Centre close! It's a beautiful mall. I used to work in the mall about 20 years ago and used to walk across the street to Woolworth's and get lunch. I miss that store too. I used to take my family from out of state shopping at SF Centre when they would come to visit. It's a shame to see the changes going on in The City right now.

2:45 - Um, what do you mean “excuse?” A store has no obligation to stay in a city and make nice things available for you to buy. Any excuse is good enough for them to leave, and constant theft from them is a pretty damn good one.
Market Street has been a bummer for DECADES. Instead of planting trees and focusing on small cafes and support businesss the city built caverns of cold and too expensive big stores. It hasn't been inviting and warm since the 70's
Can you imagine? Going to one of San Francisco’s fine eating establishments and some homeless person walk up in front of the window and drop a load out on the side walk while you are trying to eat? What kind of human being lives in this ?
That sucks☹️ I love to shop at Nordstrom center, by visiting downtown SF makes me happy but since crimes went up and the streets became shitty I have not visited downtown for 4 years. Everything is going backwards in this country! Very sad indeed 😢
I left San Francisco 10 years ago going back last year was such a difference a bunch of businesses were closed. It was kind of sad.. there used to be life.. now the drug pandemic is taking over these streets. These liberal "leaders" are destroying this beautiful city.
I'm a native San Franciscian and i have enjoyed years of going here. As a child, ( now I'm 60), I remember the Emporium, and the roof rides for kids. I will miss Nordstroms restaurant. I have enjoyed so many meals there. After a cold night attending the Chinese New Years parade, i had the crab soup. It warmed up my soul. I enjoy sewing and it was nice to see an on sight seamstress ready to make clothes fit you perfectly. The positive light i see in this neighborhood is Glide church. Reverend Williams years ago built several skyscrapers to house the homeless that were falling thru the cracks. I've been attending his Sunday service since the 80s, one day he said " we dont just serve the homeless just anything, we serve prime rib from some of the best restaurants in this city". Its all about dignity and respect. We are strong people that have survived earthquakes, fires and we will survive and thrive in the years to come. God Bless All
Its always been like that in that location. Homelessness and weird people. I mean unless it got worse and I don't know how worse it could get, it was pretty bad already. SF has had a homeless problem for double digit years, and I think they don't want to do anything about it. And I think because of that, it has gotten worse.
we were was going to visit Sf 2019 but decided not to because of all the hotels charging a "resort fee" so I can see why tourist are going to other places
Let's be real. The primary problem in the Bay Area is crime, homelessness and drugs with all three linked to each other. The state's voters committed a huge error by decriminalizing shoplifting under $1,000. Add to that far left DAs who say that "quality of life" is secondary to so-called restorative justice, and you foster a situation in which citizens take a back seat to those who commit crimes. These are the types of crime that degrade a city. There are countless videos of criminals breaking into cars, sometimes when the driver and passengers are in the car!
No one wants to buy $1,000 worth of clothes and then walk by aggressive and high-on-drugs transients on their way out. In a similarly horrible scenario, no one wants to spend $1,000 while the person next to them walks out with $10,000 worth of merchandise.
I was there may be a year before the pandemic, I was coming out of the Hugo boss store, I needed a blazer for a client dinner. I see a janitor by the exit door, holding a hose pipe and a bucket I proceed to exit out of the Westfield mall building, and I see a homeless man shitting on the side of the building.
SF is not alone. Portland Woke is doing a mighty fine job of keeping up the competition of which city drives out business faster.

How sad to see San Francisco sink while the mayor calmly takes Instagram photos and criminals roam free in the city
But have you seen the hookers and the drug availability, this city is going places
This is the power of voters. SF chose this outcome.
THANK YOU BLACK PEOPLE FOR ALL OF THIS THAT YOU DO
The best way for a human being to thrive or a business is to leave California and go to Texas , Florida and Tennessee.
The quality of life ? San Fransisco is woke to the point of where the business can’t even operate.
THANK YOU BLACK PEOPLE FOR ALL OF THIS THAT YOU DO
i like how he had to have a cop car in the background, probably the only thing keeping their camera crew from being robbed
San Francisco needs more corner liquor stores anyway 🤣
THANK YOU BLACK PEOPLE FOR ALL OF THIS THAT YOU DO 😊
And bodegas and smokes shops
@@SFbayArea94121 and Cannibis dispensaries
I'm going start my own 40 bottling company in SF. I'll be rich.
The Truth is that the crime in san francisco is very high, besides the price of rent ~!!
THANK YOU BLACK PEOPLE FOR ALL OF THIS THAT YOU DO
Not true. I've been in San Francisco for long time. The 70s and the 80s were way were worse. It's not even close it's night and day. This actually the best San Francisco has ever been. Their is more shoplifting but outside of that it's much much better.
Jax , you have Stockholm syndrome. You are in a cult. No it was not worse ever. Not in my life time and I’m 56.
SF has one of the highest rates of property crime in the US. Probably only half of them are even reported so the real rate is much higher.
Funny how no one in city hall ever criticizes the people actually causing the problem, i.e., the thieves.
What years are you talking about? Just curious.

This is what you get when you fail to punish crime.
There is theft every where not just sanfrancisco
Great news for these stores. It's hard for thieves to steal from a store that is empty.
I lived in Oakland my whole life. I finally moved to a safer city this year. Mogadishu, Somalia is so beautiful in the spring.
and the pirates offer free boat rides
And Ardanna Banks is pretty much OK with things the way they are because she figures the thieves are owed whatever they steal.
After hearing some of the interviews I think Market street should change its name to death row. 😂
Its almost like there is a connection between laws and policies passed over the last few years and the current situation of the city.
voters still not sure 🤣
THANK YOU BLACK PEOPLE FOR ALL OF THIS THAT YOU DO
It’s terrible news. That was a nice store with a good restaurant. I’ve shopped there many times.
So sad.
San Francisco quit Nordstrom before Nordstrom quit San Francisco.
SF also had many elegant stores downton - I Magnin, City of Paris, the White House - all gone
This needs to be a lesson to the rest of the country as far as what not to do and that your ability to vote can make a difference.
Looters, druggies, and squatters will be the only ones on the streets and in the empty buildings soon. 😢
I was thinking the same. People will break into the empty building soon and start squatting there.
I laughed when the lady from NY (1:53) said she can handle Market Street. That tells you a lot......
New Yorkers are overly proud of everything, including crime and filth. It's such a bizarre thing to be proud of.
I'm from New York so I am used to horrible cities and horrible people...I almost feel at home...you are just a few BILLION RATS short of NYC. 😂
Wonderful news! Keep it coming!
Congrats Democrat Voters! Your Criminals Promoting & Friendly policy WORK Well as Expected! Cheer!!!
Will the last business to leave San Francisco please turn off the lights!
A huge item is the cost of living in the area
Simply cost of living is 207% over average across country
Elections have consequences. The electorate gets the government they deserve. We have the same problems in Minneapolis, MN, and the citizens here keep re-electing the same pro-crime, anti-business, no-limits-on-government criminals.
Sad to see SF Centre close! It's a beautiful mall. I used to work in the mall about 20 years ago and used to walk across the street to Woolworth's and get lunch. I miss that store too. I used to take my family from out of state shopping at SF Centre when they would come to visit. It's a shame to see the changes going on in The City right now.
Some of the Replies to UA-cam comments have disappeared. Not sure if Replies are deleted by the channel, original commenters, or the person who wrote the reply. Noticed on several videos.
2:45 - Um, what do you mean “excuse?” A store has no obligation to stay in a city and make nice things available for you to buy. Any excuse is good enough for them to leave, and constant theft from them is a pretty damn good one.
When Twitter employees were laid off, the mayor publicly invited them to apply for city jobs. Why hasn't she done the same with dtwn sf retail staff?
If it were the arch villain Elon Musk she would have. Can’t virtue signal enough.
Glad i visited SF when it was still safe and kind of clean.
It's not lack of foot traffic it's shoppers getting stomped on and robbed by criminals as they walk out the stores
There is nothing in SF worth risking my life to go there 😅
That empty store will make a beautiful opium den
God Bless All
No criminals were harmed in the closing of these stores.
San Francisco doesn't seem terribly interested in fixing their problems.
All retail stores should Close before something worse happens .
I hope San Francisco Never recovers. I hope it goes down the dumps like it deserves.
I will tell you they are not going to chitcago 😂
What’s up with Tom? Is his hat from the Jed Clampett collection?
Lol at the black woman trying to explain everything and blaming on high rent
True and the covid mask hanging under her chin makes it even more hilarious.

"Loitering" is against the law.
Enforce it!
Thanks Bart for locking the bathrooms. I used to travel from the East Bay just to shop.
Makes sense for SF. It’s been on a decline for over 10 years🧂🧂
THANK YOU BLACK PEOPLE FOR ALL OF THIS THAT YOU DO
Last one to leave, could you turn out the lights.
SF is the next Detroit. You tell them gurl @2:30 !!🙄
"A Popular Tourist Spot":
Someone didn't get the memo!
LOL
Most likely they’ll turn it into condos with a equinox gym. And that area it’s going to look even more shady than already is.
SF and its people are getting exactly what they deserve !
YESSSS! CLOSE THESE STORES! YEAH IT'S SCARY ..WHERE WE'RE HEADED! 😳😳 Especially if you're not rich.🤷🏾♀️
San Francisco is blaming EVERYTHING but themselves 🙄
Yup! At 2:30 she blames racism.
Nothing to see in San Fransisco or visit California unless you want to get robbed.
They called it reparations
Sad Sf native, haven’t been there since pandemic.
What a pity. No one wants you to ever leave San Francisco spreading your woke virus to the rest of the country
