Maybe not a decluttering but just a tidy house tip. If you have something that takes 2 minutes or less, you have to do it. Taking out the trash, putting your shoes away, wiping a counter etc. It's helped me a lot!
Taking something with me whenever I move around the house to get things closer to where they belong. I learned it from Gretchen Rubin. It’s been so helpful. I also have a donation box and try to put something in it every day.
I leave my unwanted or unused items on a table in the lunchroom where i work. I've even left food and it's gone! I find some people are even embarrassed about taking "freebies" so this helps them to be anonymous!! Good video. Thank you. We're a very blessed nation to have the "problem" of decluttering when so many people have so little.
I still have a lot of big decluttering places to do, but as soon as I finished a space I do keep it clean. So slowly everything get done and stays that way. The one in, one out rule is definitely a very good one.
Wonderful tips! I say yes to freebies if I know I’ll actually use them! So I never say no to the toothbrush/floss at the dentist bc we do use those up! And I have a handful of things that I need to post in fb marketplace, so you motivated me to do that today! Thank you! I also once a week do a quick wipe down of the shelves in my fridge and that’s when I will throw away any expired food items. The best time to do this is when your fridge is the most empty so right before I go grocery shopping! It works for me!
I love this video, Ashlynne; I’ve been using my local Buy Nothing Group to pass on things that I can’t use, and it feels great to pass them on to a new home where they’ll be appreciated. I have one issue, though : ripped, torn, stained, and otherwise damaged items DO NOT belong in a donation box. Either mend them, find someone else to mend them, or recycle the textiles, but do not make unwearable clothes someone else’s problem. Thanks for your content!
That’s such a great point and I should have clarified that a bit more in the video. When I say “donation box” I don’t mean that everything I put in the box necessarily gets donated. It’s more a “take action on box”, but I might either sell, donate, gift, mend, recycle, etc. the things inside once the box fills up
There's nothing like watching an episode of Hoarders to get you to declutter and clean up! But I also see how they declutter - Keep, Donate, or Throw Away. It's the decision-making process that is hard but I see the more it's done, the easier it gets
Such helpful tips that are also easy to follow. Thank you so much, Ashlynne, for the needed motivation to get started! I love how you make these video's and how you explain exactly what you mean with each tip. Have a blessed week ✨️
Just a comment of appreciation! Your content is so helpful and takes a lot of the intimidation out of decluttering away. So many examples & inspiration thank you so much 💕
Fun fact: I was watching an older video of yours when the notification of this new video came up 😉 Love love love your lifestyle tips and inspiring content! 😍 Thank you for creating meaningful videos and being such a lovely online presence! 🤗
Another beautiful video and well put together video Ashlynne. Ever since I found your channel, I have learned a lot anything from spending less to keeping my home clean. Thanks for all you do Ashlynne, much love! Enjoy your weekend and early Happy 4th of July!
Kind of like a buy nothing group, I leave things downstairs in my apartment building in the foyer asking if anyone wants them. If not, after a couple of days I take those items to the op shop. I’m so surprised that most things have gone to a new home that way 😊
You seem to throw away food often.. just seems like. I used to do this too. But, as I was doing it, i started a process of evaluating what i tend to buy and not eat, buy and not cook it. I also decided to use up items in my pantry that were still good but I keep on avoiding them, use them one last time, and remember to never buy it again.. I also kept track of foods I enjoy the most and stuck to those. My shopping became faster and simpler, and my fridge and pantry more organised and I knew which item belongs where... So i general, strategies for throwing away less food. Because is always sad to toss food away like that..
All those bananas would be great to freeze for smoothies or to put in banana cake. I don't really put bananas in the fridge but maybe you live somewhere hot and humid.
@@francoiselafferty-hancock5112 exactly! Another way when you want to throw less food, is proper storage to ensure longevity of the food item! I also learned what is the best way to store some foods that were going bad very fast, and it will help me not to throw it away
I set my timer for 5 mins I was so unmotivated to clean my room so I thought I’d I set a timer for 5 mins I can see how much I can get done in that amount of time!! Turned out I got my room clean!!! Woohoo!! ❤
"Saying no to freebies" yes!!! I used to take the mini shampoo, conditioner, body lotion etc from hotels. Why?! I never used it. And also really wasteful with all that plastic packaging. I now never take these things. The only time I might would be if I'd forgotten to bring my own and was continuing to travel and wasn't near a supermarket.
If I have items I'm on the fence about, I'll put them in a donate bin with a 1 year later date. During the time, if wanting an item, take it out, and when the time period is up, donate the whole bin.
PSA. I notice it was said in the video that you can say no to a free toothbrush from the dentist to reduce clutter. Everyone should say yes to the toothbrush from the dentist, unless you have a certain type of toothbrush you prefer. Everyone should be changing their toothbrush or toothbrush head about 4 times a year for good oral hygiene.
As someone with an electric tooth brush and I buy replacement heads in bulk at Costco. I have a toothbrush put away say for a over night stay, and another for a guest that may have forgotten one. But now that I have two “new dentist toothbrushes” tucked away I also say no to the dentist free tooth brush!
For brain decluttering I will choose one task, like paying a non automatic bill, and let it go until tomorrow if it can wait. And not allow myself to dwell on it again that day. Also I will start another similar task and try to complete it that day. A part of this task can be done in a minute.
What’s are some one-minute decluttering habits you use to keep clutter in check? 🤍
Cleaning the entire house.
I need to schedule a decluttering session as soon as possible after watching this video ❤

A Buy Nothing group is amazing! I get rid of so many things, knowing they will get a second life.
Yes!! They’re my favorite 🤍
Sounds great 👍

I taught my kids to use a donate bag or box. Never regretted that!!! Toys and other items.❤

Love that! And you're totally right. Nothing wrong with freebies so long as you'll use them! It's the ones you don't that are problematic. 😉

Same here. Good advice. That’s how we do it too.
I found this especially important on a small boat. What I used or didn’t was different than at home and space very limited.
It is now illegal to throw away food in France. In America, 40% of food is thrown out.

Amazing video!!
I find it better to remove hangers from the lower part of tops to avoid ruining the stretchy collar
so motivating
I love your wooden tray in your bathroom and the organiser ones in your drawer. Where did you purchase them if i may know?
Great job and such an incredible job and 4th of July is coming your way! Happy weekend, Ashlynne!❤❤
Thank you Ervin! ✨
You’re welcome, Ashlynne!

My method is that the decision making process for decluttering items should be quick; WHEN IN DOUBT THROW IT OUT!
I'm sad that I didn't take pictures before and after tidying up . My room is so much changes after that
You’ll just have to do it for your next space 😘
Love the tree in your bedroom! What kind is it?
I think it is a plastic olive tree
@@tttb916 I thought it might be but wasn’t 100%sure some look cheap but hers looks really nice
Yep! It’s a fake olive tree. I think it’s originally from Target but I got it off Facebook marketplace 🙌

Hello. Will you send me the link again for your dish soap and hand soap containers? Can’t open the link the you’ve sent me. Thank you. :)
I love you coffee table! Where did you find it??
Wait why were there bananas in the fridge?? Doesnt that make them go bad super quickly?
Haha yes. But I was actually trying to ripen them to freeze them for smoothies (which is what I did rather than throwing them out) 🤍
It actually makes them last longer in the fridge although the outer layer will blacken but it doesn't mean they've gone bad
Hello

Now how do i help a husband who refuses to be clutter free? 😂
You tried. Your thoughts are not original.
