Thanks for listening buddy!
My opinion is the only other song on UA-cam with better vocals is your version of help me hold on that was just an amazing show of your raw beautiful voice
Fantastic. Absolutely stunning voice. Hits the feels. Spot on. Nothing to say but... Damn Dave... Music is your calling.
I am not big on cover songs and this is a favorite from my childhood. I have to admit you did it better than the Judds! Thank you for reintroducing this great classic to my life! May the Lord bless you in all you do in Jesus name
I hope you go far man! You really nailed it
You’re voice is moving please make more music ❤️
The hero in my life was my grandpa. It's been 25 years since he passed, and every word of this song still speaks for me. I love Dave's rendition of this song.
I've never heard of Dave or heard anything of his. But, he remade a classic, and he did a marvelous job. The Judds are a hard act to follow.
Jackie Pierce for sure👩🏼🦳
Thanks for the love!!
Absolutely awesome. Glad I heard you sing will definitely look for more songs by you..... My all time favorite song is he walked on water.
My dad went away for work for about 5 years when I was roughly 10 or so.
I spent a ton of time with my grandfather. Lived with him. He worked graveyard shift and would come home from work and would cook me breakfast and take me to school everyday. When I got home from school he would make sure he had a couple hours to spend with me before he had work at 7pm.
He lived with pretty bad cancer for many years. Maybe 7 or so. I learned to read lips because he didn't like to use the talker thing. I had a daughter at 20 she had some health issues at birth. She didn't come home for about 6 months or so after birth. He was in hospice at this point. When she came home he would let her hold his finger and watch baseball on TV. He died about a week or two after she came home.
I truly believe he held out to see his first great grandchild. That was 15 years ago. Man I miss him...
Sorry for the long post.
I think a lot of why people prefer original versions of the song is because there is a memory attached to the original. Also, you hear the original version enough times and it lays down tracks into your brain, so when you hear someone do a cover and change it up in some way, the second it goes "off track" from what you are used to hearing it grates on you.
With that said, I absolutely love the original version by The Judds. I do have a memory attached to the song too. My dad, who we lost back in December, had rental properties we would have to renovate to get them available to rent out. I was a kid then back in the mid-late 80's when the song came out, and while we were either working on a house or playing outside getting out of the way of the work being done, the radio was always on. So for me, my memory is listening to the radio just after Paul Harvey's "The Rest Of The Story" and hearing The Judds sing "Grandpa", while my dad and I were laying down a plywood floor in an upstairs bathroom. I also remember my dad trying to teach me how to properly hammer a nail so it doesn't bend or the head sticking up because we were going to lay down over the plywood linoleum and didn't want it to tear.
Now as for this version, I think he did a phenomenal job singing it. My main beef is that the guitar playing seemed to skip or downplay certain notes, and it kinda sounded off and not quite right. Where the original was more contemplative and conversational, this guy's version is sort of a pleading or demanding, and that kind of takes me out of it. Other than that, a very admirable job of it!
Never heard this version. He did great. Love the song regardless. I was so close to my Grandpa. He was WW2 veteran. He passed on 1/15/16 at Salisbury VA on my birthday. We all were with him, he.opened his eyes looked at me. Then moments he passed away. Then less a year my Mom passed away. He was my mom father. This guy did awesome job.
Thanks for listening!
Thank you to your grandfather for his service!
Sorry for your loss and many thanks and respect to your grandpa for his service.
@@DjPorkchop73 thank you so much.
I’m glad so many people liked this as much as I did
*me singing along with a tear in my eye...this was sung at many a funeral of the elders in my family back in NZ. Love this song to remember our family who passed❤️
Families realy bowed their heads to pray, and Dads'd really never go away. Oh sweet child of mine, you can still have the good old days.
This was amazingly good. So much feeling and drama in his performance. Yeah, he killed it in the best possible way.
Liked him but I still like the kids because they are my good ole days but he did a good job. I can relate to this song and I feel sorry for the younger ones that were so caught up in things of today. That's why I like you youngins listening to our Oldin's music of years ago. We enjoyed life. Them good ole days.
Wow....LOVE this version...awesome singer♥️
My dad listened to country radio. I remember the Judds version got lots of airplay.
Love this song so much. This should be on the radio. Why isn't it
Just aww struck I love classic country music a true voice and its tastefully done
It has been a long time since I listened to the Judd’s singing this. However, I think I like this cover as much if not more than theirs. It is great,
I like this one better.
I tear up every time I hear this I get so sad that family values have gone so far to the wayside .. and he evokes such emotion ….😢
I really liked this song from the Judds and I love this guy's voice. Yep, he made it new again. Hey I'm almost 66 years old and loved this song.
This is a first for me. I love his mellow voice and the beautiful acoustic guitar. I also love the Judds' version. The song depicts an era where people took the time to pay attention to the important things in life, before technology took over and people became lost in their electronics.
Yeah, he nailed that. Dave is from Lufkin, TX where I live but the first time I heard him was his audition on AGT years ago.
Heck yea can’t wait, he did made this old song new again
Thanks!
Dave Fenley yes sir, it’s my pleasure to share your music with other people that may not have heard it yet, I’m going to get him to do another one for my next months request also.
Nice job, I enjoyed this rendition. Special shout out for the guitar work which I would thoroughly enjoy even as a stand-alone.
Thanks!
@@DaveFenley My pleasure. Excellent flavor!
Released 35 years ago, in 1985, and even more applicable today. ❤️ He did a fantastic job. Thanks for reviewing!
Oh goodness that was wonderful! He's got quite a voice. He blew this out of the water as they say. I got chills when I remembered the good old days when he sang about them. I almost cried. Thanks for reacting to this song Ty.
P.S. Loved the guitar playing. So clear and crisp.
Thanks for the love!
You don't even have to listen to country music, however I'm sure most have heard of the Judd's. This cover is awesome. Thanks for sharing.
Dave Fenley is amazingly talented! Not to mention humble. I commented on the original video and Dave actually took the time to reply! When I told him that I shared it on Naomi and Wynonna's respective Facebook pages, he was actually afraid they wouldn't like it! I'm normally one of those "old folks" who prefers the original versions of songs, mostly because somebody will take a song and butcher it with autotune or change up the original melody too much. But Dave actually takes a song and makes it his own yet it still sounds like the same song. You simply HAVE to check out his cover of Stuck On You (along with his other covers), he really did justice to a great older song!
Oh, and that's his real family in the vid (mom, dad, and wife)!
One of ,y favorites by the Judds. He is doing a great version.
Purists can get upset all they want. I'm one of them and couldn't be happier that Dave covered this song. Absolutely killed it! And I mean no disrespect at all to the Judds. I'm 1 month shy of 48 years old and grew up listening to the Judds. Their version is great and so is Daves. I happen to like his much more.
Fantastic song!
Awesome, them type of voices that get ya into the story and believe in what they are sharing
He's on youtube, and has other cover songs and he kills it!! You will love him, thanks Ty! 🤗
Dave is AMAZING!!!!!
So much soul in his singing. Glad i found this! Thanks!
I almost didn’t listen to this because I’m that person that hates remakes but I’m glad I did.
Good for you to venture out of your comfort zone.
Thanks for listening!
@@DaveFenley it was awesome sir!
Oh WOW!! What an amazing voice! Thanks for sharing.
Just added this to my music list. I hadn't heard this version.. thank you
Thanks. Thanks so much... now I'm not sure if I want to cry because I dont get to spend much time with my grandkids, or if I miss my Grandparents!! Better than the Judd's. And this old folk grew up with the Judd's version...
I have been a fan of Dave since he was on 'Amercia's Got Talent' back in 2013. I met him after his season on 'The Voice and am damn glad to be able to call him my friend. I try to make every show I can when he is in Texas!
Love it he did the original proud he has an awesome talent love his story telling in this song. 💕👏👏 it also takes me back to my childhood as I wait for the phone call to tell me my brother has passed it is only a matter of days now in a year that I lost a sister and remembered they passing of my husband two years ago so on a low right now. Thanks for posting the beautiful song.
Such a great song. Awesome choice for reaction. Thank you so much.
Brand new to me but the second he started to sing, I got chills. He did a fantastic job!
He did this song Justice. Great job
This is the best version if you ask me listen to it all the time it brings back memories for me
Please tell him I want to sit on the porch swing with him & family and hear him sing. Honestly, I like his version better. Love it and great rendition. I'll buy it.
Yeah he is Great but never heard of him! Excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a song. Why is it we all can hear the truth in this song, and then carry on with the BS in todays life :(
This speaks to my heart. My Grandpa was the man that raised me, I’ve spent most of my life asking my Grandpa what his life was like and and what he went thru. He was born in 1929 and passed in 2010.
Oh wow, he nailed it! Always loved this song anyway, but I will be checking into Dave Fanley some more.
He nail it 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻❣️
Cherish 'em while ya got 'em! Amazing voice!
Your videos give me hope that we all can just be people and love what we want and who you want!! Forget everything else! People suck I know but folks like us can bridge all gaps. God bless brother! I’ll be watching.
Thanks so much for helping me find a new addition to the list.I would love to make a request one day dear brother.
Dave Fenley Help Me Hold On (Travis Tritt cover) NOT the voice version.....thanks Ty
From what I gather about those good old days, times were hard, but life was a whole lot simpler and healthier. As I had stated in the chat I wish I knew my grandpas.Never met them,(one died before I was born) and dont even have pictures of them.Would have loved to find out how living in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries was really like.
Beautiful song.......
He tends to do that with whatever song he touches
I'm not big on hearing covers but this man did it better! This was one of my favorite when I was a kid!
Yea. I cried. Love you brother!
Thank you that thing is called beautiful
I LOVE this cover! Such an important message in today's world!
Ty, thank you for playing that. I really enjoyed it too, takes me way back to yesteryear when we had much more simpler times! His voice is perfect for country music and I definitely want to hear more of him!
One of the few times I can say the new one is better than the original.
What a great voice.
He’s got it going on, I’ve listened to a lot of his stuff!!
Love your format--- and the tune. thanks
I just found this guy the other day. YT thought I would like him. They were right!
✌️❤️
Never heard anything about this dude. Great cover, though, and he has a fantastic voice. You might like to check out the OGs, The Judds.
I liked this version.. You go Buddy !!!!
This is a beautiful version! I love it
My wife and I grew up with and loved the Judds, we both agree he sang it better
Loved it, did a great cover. This song always gives me goose bumps, love the meaning.
I listen to this every morning
Fantastic cover. Good job Dave.
Oh . . . . I can't get ENOUGH of this! The Judd version is one of my very favorite songs, and this is just as good, if not a little better!
Never heard of this guy before, but of course I knew the song, so I gave it a listen. Very glad I did. If it's not as good as the Judds, it's close.
The Judds version is fantastic, especially with the harmonies. However, this guy did such an intimate rendition it seemed as if Grandpa was there, listening. The lyrics to this song are apropos for the times. Loved it!
Good Lord, this song has been on my mind for 2 weeks cause a great friend just died, a YOUNG cowboy with a wife & 6 yr old daughter. They've lived on a farm his family has owned for 5 generations & at his FUNERAL his wife was told she has to move cause they're selling the farm. It's all about MONEY! There is NO LOYALTY or common decency anymore. Grandpa must be rolling over in his grave :( There's even a family cemetary on that property and they are SELLING IT!! :( And yes, he did a great job covering My Judds. And Ty is a goofball. LOL
Good voice, great message.
He knocked it outta the park!!! I can remember when the video came out and I would see it on CMT all the time. I saw them live several times and they were great but Dave really did this song justice. Great job Sir!!!
Amazing. Love both versions❤
This is the first video of yours I've seen, and I don't know what I expected, but it wasn't this. You've definitely earned a subscriber in me. Keep doing what you're doing, man.
I love the original by The Judds, so I was nervous about hearing this one, but I love it!! Thank you for reacting to it because I've never heard of him before.
I don't know if anyone else mentioned it in the comments, or if you have ventured out to listen to more of Dave's music, but you have to hit "Turn the Page" cover he did. This guy will blow your mind.
Phenomenal
You are so funny Ty !!!!!!
You have no idea!!!!!!!
Got my attention!!! Thumbs up to this video!!!!!! 👍👍👍👍👋👋👋👋🇺🇸🇺🇸 brought a tear to my eyes!!!!!
Oh, my! How I enjoyed this! Thank you! ☺️
Glad you enjoyed it!
"Grandpa" is one of my most favorite songs.....since my grandpa died when I was young. I absolutely loved this version as good as the original.
Making this a favorite on my play list.
He did it justice.
Fun fact I just learned: Dave appeared on America's got talent some years ago, and again on the voice a few back... I JUST recently discovered him on UA-cam... Dude has a great voice and should be bigger than he is...
This is an amazing song. But on another note... thank you for standing up against CRT. You have 2 medical degrees and are proof that ANYONE can overcome and accomplish what they set out to do. You are an inspiration! Keep doing you!!
Wow. I love this version and I came into this sceptical. The Judds version has been one of my life songs. I added this to my faves list.
I can honestly say ... I have no idea who I like better. This or the version by the Judds ... so different exquisite in their own way
Very nice cover of the Judds classic. Thanks for the reaction.
Hands down best rendition of this song ever recorded. Dave Fenley has genuine emotion about what he is singing, he feels it in his soul. It's already a good song, but when you pair a good song with someone who"feels" what they are singing THEN a good song becomes a great song.
That voice cracked me up, Ty. “Couldn’t hold 2 pounds of turkey sausage to this. Which button do I push to unsubscribe?“ Hahaha!
Really enjoyed this song and rendition also.
Enjoyed your reaction and love this version of the song!!
I've always loved that song, and that was a great version!
Good love listening to this
I loved it! ... he is talented but he does mainly covers. I'm sure he has some ideas for originals and I can't wait
Nice cover Dave Fanley 💖 I enjoyed it
Love this version. This man can sing
