3D Restoration of the Medieval town of Cherven (Bulgaria)

- Back in 2021 we worked on the 3D virtual restoration of two cultural heritage sites here in Bulgaria for the Regional Museum of History - Ruse. The final products are VR experiences that are now exhibited in the museum.
In this promotional video, we present the Medieval town of Cherven. It took us seven months to complete the project while closely working with the experts from the museum and all of the data gathered through the years.
The production had three distinct phases:
1. Scanning, gathering data and understanding everything about the site and the way that people built and lived in the XIV century.
2. Creating a 3D digital double of the site (subject to another video). In this phase we created a VR museum that showcases the remains of the site as well as exact artefacts that were found there during the years of exploration.
3. The restoration based on hypothesis phase was by far the most time consuming and also the most interesting to work on. We created each and every building based on the specifications and information from the experts. In addition all of the market stalls and individual 3D models were also built. Then a VR experience was finalized and exported as a stand alone product.
It was an amazing experience to work on such an interesting project related to the preservation and popularization of Bulgarian cultural heritage. We, are continuing to expand our reach and work with more and more museums in Europe to truly bring the glorious past of the cultural heritage sites to life!

Предлагам следващото място да бъде Велики Преслав, столицата на най-могъщата европейска империя по това време - България. Споделям с колкото може повече хора. Заслужавате финансирането от МОН, или и от МнК, защото това ще стимулира и желанието на учениците да опознават държавата, бита и традициите си. Успех!
Харно, само камерите са малко бързи и завъртането на моделите иначе е супер.
нещо тези къщи са с много странни пропорции, някои от тях. и двускатните покриви не знам дали са ги използвали по този начин тогава. инак е много готино.
Who was your coach for this? While really good, there seem to be some really weird choices here.
The Regional history museum of Ruse have been leading and suppling all of the data for the production of this 3D reconstruction. The team of historians and archeologists have been extremely helpful in giving us all the information.
@@tornadostudios9239 So why is one of the buttresses almost as high as one of the corner towers and is capped off with shingles?
Why isn't there any embelishment or decorative masonry on the castle's outter walls? Balkan architecture does have that and this town was rich enough to afford it.
Why is the wall near the cliffside a mere palisade? A simple stone wall topped with shingles like that of a bulgarian traditional house would look better.
@@RLDragonStrider I agree completely with you that some elements seem to be different than expected. What I can say with 100% certainty is that this is the state of the current hypothesis of the experts that have spent their lives exploring the fortress. None of what you see in this 3D reconstruction was done based on our own opinion or online research. The current hypothesis belongs to the Regional history museum in Ruse. The city was an important one for sure, but not nearly as rich or powerful as Tsarevets.
@@tornadostudios9239 From what I know Bulgarian academics tend to stew in alot of conjecture most of the time. But granted you guys did good and this is probably the best model of the castle out there and its good that is sponsored by an actual museum.
Hope you guys do more of other Bulgarian monuments.

сега говорих с колеги археолози от НИНКН. малко с жилищните сгради това, което се е получило е някаква самодейност без сериозни източници или аналогии. за крепостните стени е по-добре възстановката, но жилищните и търговските сгради не са били така. най вече не са били на два етажа в повечето случи и покривите не е сигурбо, че са били с керемиди, такива керемиди или със слама.

И при мен иникна въпроса дали покривите на къщите са били покрити с керемиди? Има ли доказателства за това ?
@@georgipraskov8223 Да, открити са керемиди от покривите. В заможната част, цитаделата, керемидите са били използвани за всички къщи и сгради. В по-бедната част, извън цитаделата, много от къщите са имали покриви от дърво и слама.
