I'm a nobody but this seems like a great idea especially with the integrated fire suppression. Not sure about the size of the hoses, i would assume that by having that size it would move a lot of air quickly but also empty that tank quickly , so maybe there is a good balance for still moving enough air without emptying the tank too quick. I guess testing will sort that out. Brilliant idea sir.
Two points Tom, after saying thisTom Lamb Bale Baster is a first class idea. One. You need to acquire a baler that is destined for the scrap yard and do a live fire test on it, that will show how successful this system will be and get rid of all the doubters. Two. The hand held Lance needs fitting to a retractable air hose line real, so it’s always available and not stuffed in with the baler twine. Oh yes Three. What about talking to Knight Farm Machinery and Sprayers to see if you could get them on board. They’re local ! ! This project is getting better and bigger by the day. Well done Tom. ⭐️🏆🥇
Not only that, but the powder will be much better contained and do a far better job of extinguishing any fire. I know Tom left the doors open so he/we could see it go off, but the powder was spread quite wide of the machine afterwards. Doors closed means most of that would stay inside the machine where it was needed.
I think is a very good idea not only will it clean but it will potentially save lives. Oh and make you a lot of money. Good on you I’m not a farmer but I love your channel and love watching what you get up to . Thank you
We use "air knives" at work to essentialy dust down the cars before they enter the spray booths to be painted.... Might be an idea for the slip clutch multiple operations throught bailing on a timer instead of one big blast when you trigger it?
It’s a great idea if I was you I would run 2 or 4 pipes out of the tank on separate solenoid valves and just open one or two at once then you will have more pressure in one place and maybe put them on a timer to go off alternately Great idea 👍🏻
I work in the chemical industry. We had some training with fire extinguishers. Extinguishers with powder are better for outdoor use because the CO2 ones don't work well in open air, and less so if there is even a slight wind. The CO2 gets diluted too fast. In an enclosed space, they work well. We got told to use the CO2 indoors, and when the mess the powder creates does too much damage. Removed flammable material won't burn, just as you said, keeping the baler clean reduces the chance for disaster. Your system can easily prevent the potential loss of a baler plus a tractor plus the whole field and wherever such a fire spreads to. I saw an American farming video where a farmer destroyed crops by driving with his tractor & cultivator around a field fire to prevent the fire from spreading into other fields as well. Quite the risk he took, all that mostly dry straw and all the smoke.
Quality Idea Top Claas infact Tom ;) .... smaller hose / pipe to run along side of the air blowers pipework for the fire suppresion system ... smaller bore more back pressure more / longer blast of c02 (finger over hose pipe thing) and like vehicle fire suppression system that you can find that are plumbed in .... or you can / could use those Fire Extinguishing Balls as well... Arrr run the fire system seperate so its under the vehicle / machine (like break and fuel lines ) with jets facing up ward in the vehicle/ machine in key positions .... tick tick... tick ... no boom no smoke .... no fire ... peace
It's a good idea I don't know why manufacturers haven't made something like it to go on round bales to keep the worst of the dust of let face it 90% of baler tractors all have air nowadays I'm sure that could rig something up. Love watching you videos
Such a good idea would be great to see it brought in across new equipment as you could have temp sensors and once it reaches a certain temp the fire extinguisher automatically deploys but honestly Tom great idea would be nice to have on a combine so you don’t have to blow down and get covered every night or in the morning before starting up
This is Brilliant! You are certainly as innovative as Colin(if not more ;-P) and I love how this is environmentally beneficial this design is, awesome Tom!
Tom. You push on. No one else is trying new things. My mate always tried me things. And he’s has failed and done very good things. If you don’t try you don’t known. You also have a very nice work shop which makes all the difference
The Idea is nice and the jets seem a lot more powerfull than these vortex-thingies that some manufacturers fit or the dealers ad for you. I think the powder-extinguishers could be more effective if the powder got ejected smidge slower than right now. The powder needs to settle on the burning material in order to suffocate the fire, so the less of it gets blown away the better. Glad to see you blow away the powder from testing, the stuff is highly corrosive because of some salts contained if i recall correctly. Farmers around my area have started to build some cool stuff with old pressure vessels(gas tanks, etc...), they weld a 3p-hitch to it and take it arround on the front linkage of the tractor thats baling. Its filled with water and put under pressure with air from the brakes, so you might be able to help yourself till the fire brigade gets to you if shit hits the fan. Time is sometimes the only thing saving equipment from total loss.
Good day from New Brunswick Canada. The BALE BLASTER seems to be coming along famously. Glad to see you thought of the regulator and small outlets, this crossed my mind over coffee yesterday. The self retracting air hose option as suggested earlier would probably be a good idea. Tom Lamb farmer and DIY engineer. Cheers.
You look so happy Tom! I saw news of another tractor fire today 😢 wish this awesome invention was mandatory on manufacturing of farming machinery. Use once save lives and expensive equipment! .
Excellent progress Tom - it was a very good, simple idea to start with but now you have created a really great piece of kit that could make a real difference when farming the land! Excellent stuff!
Very impressed with the blower it will certainly keep the baler cleaner. From bitter experience most baler fires are caused by glowing red steel caused by bearings and friction surfaces. It may extinguish the fire but it will reignite in a very short time, but it should buy you time to get out with the water / foam. My advice from experience is you need to carry 2 big water or foam extinguishers as you need to take the heat out of the steel to keep the fire out.
another great video, and a very useful looking system. I'm sure in an alternative universe there's a version made by Colin that actually shoots out fire 😁😄
Hi Tom , your little idea / project just gets better and better . Being able to integrate it I to baler screen would be great, especially if you have more than one tractor that just does the baling .
Great video Tom it’s looking really good have you thought about putting a retractable air line,in the string box then it would be nice and neat and not loads of pipe hanging, around and it would take up less space in there, and do you think the air tank will need a safety certificate for the insurance, because you know what there like 👍👍
You are amazing that is fantastic ,you could make so much money from this and more importantly you could make a lot of farmers safe.your brain must be constantly working on your next invention ❤
It is coming along nicely, definitely not a silly idea, i think you are going to set up for mass production as you going to be swapped with orders. How about instead of squeezing the jets, you put small flutes on top edge angling inwards. will give you top air flow directed inwards to machine body, with out reducing volume.
Tom, you have a very calming voice, doesnt matter what you on about, just very relaxing. Not the huffin an puffin from your cameraman but thats nitpicking
It is a great idea and maybe one day it'll save the day. You do need to test it on fire though, see how it actually puts the flame out or if it blows straw about and sets other straw on fire and maybe that too would help determine how much powder you need and so on.
I'd probably get a self retracting reel mounted somewhere for the airline. They're cheap as chips nowadays. Maybe even one either side with the blow-gun wand attached permanently. ....If you don't have to get an airline out the side box and hook it up each time you want to blow it off you're probably much more likely to actually do it vs think "ah it's not too bad, I'll do it next time.
tom check out a company in norfolk called firetrace, used to instal their kit, was good stuff. main idea was it dumps extinguisher at source of heat. used the 3M liqued, amazing stuff.
I love your sound effects Tom😂. Stop knocking your idea it’s brilliant especially the extras you have though off. You need to mount a couple of cameras inside the doors when they are closed. This would give you a better idea where the air flow is going and if you need to move anything. Looking forward to the next video Tom.
Great video Tom, you put the idea out there and I'm sure a manufacturer will pick up on it but you really should patent the idea if not the product (Intellectual rights) you can get a free patent info pack online.👌👍.
Been watching you on Colin's UA-cam channels and finally got around to yours 😊 Fantastic idea Mr Lamb please tell me you're going to patent it. Knowing that the slipper clutch and other areas are over heating why aren't the manufacturers fixing these issues in the r&d stage?
@@Tomlamb980 I watched the previous video after this one and after making my comment and you stated themat you want otter farmers to benefit from your ideas. Then I got my answer. Cheers Tom
Absolutely love this idea Tom. Disclaimer! I AM NOT A FIRE EXPERT I did a fire course for work last year and we were told not to use Co2 on something like an office bin fire as it scatters the embers which causes the fire to spread. Powder is a good idea but the blast could still spread the straw if it was alight. It was recommended to use a water extinguisher, could you add a few litres of instead of powder?
Your fire prevention system come baler cleaner is getting legs now and a good idea Get it perfected and get a sponsor to iron out all the ideas to production Keep on farming
This is an awesome idea, and looks like it'll work well...... But if it doesn't, or refilling the air reservoir is an issue (or having a reservoir at all), it lookes like the leaf blower works really well, so if you can find a cheapo electric one, is it worth trying to mount one of those and use the high volume air, rather than high pressure air? You would probably need one in each location, but it may work on machines without air, or with no space for a tank?
Does look the bees knees Tom. Just got to set the baler alight to properly test it? 😮😊😂only joking. An idea i had is to build a hydraulic arm connected to a scraper fitted to a muck bucket, so if you're pushing up where there's no wall, like through a passage, when you get to the last bit the arm will come down on the ground in front of the muck that won't go in the bucket and retract to pull the muck into the bucket. Just a thought got you to have a go at?
Hey Tom , have you thought of using high speed solenoids to open your valves like they use on the pumpkin cannons in the states? You could remote control it from the cab or anywhere , also using that set a timer to blow down the chaff as often as you like
You'll want to locate the switch for the blaster in a separate place to the fire extinguisher trigger. Otherwise you could feed a fire with a load of air by hitting the wrong button.
Be careful with dry powder as it can be highly corrosive and prematurely wear your machines bearings and wear surfaces. Can you not just use Co2 as it's an inert gas or high-pressure water misting. Also, ensure you can access the water drain off valve on the bottom of the air tank as it will condensate a lot with it being in variable weather and sunlight
I was wondering if this could be used in a similar way for a Combine. As they are prone to setting fire to themselves, as you have alluded to and from what I have seen from Combine fires myself over the years. You need a new hat Tom Lamb Farming Genius.
Heat sensors all over the baler, linked to the screen in the tractor, with visible display. Green is watered is too hot, and an audible warning when things get too hot. Just an idea?
