As far as I’m aware the show wasn’t picked up my Amazon Prime until well after this pilot came out. It was an independent project. So, lack of funds. As far as I’m aware at least.

The creator herself has confirmed the pilot is "soft canon". Basically the plot is canon, it takes place a week before episode 1. the part about it that isn't canon is there are visual changes, like character designs & the clocktower, and voices change.
I do think they should have included a version of this episode in the series, even if it would have been a retread of stuff a lot of the audience had already seen, and made the introduction of Adam into the second episode, but considering how few episodes they were given I can understand if the reason they didn't include it was because they were struggling to fit everything into such a short season. When Netflix picked up what was originally the second season of Bee and Puppycat they commissioned an additional three episodes to go at the start of the season covering most of the original UA-cam episodes, at least all the important story stuff anyway, which I think is the right way to go. You can't rely on the audience being familiar with episodes on a different platform for context.
I love the over-the-top foley work on this. Like the sound of a train horn as Cherry Bomb dropkicks Ser Pentious, or the car alarm sound as Katie Killjoy's eyes pop open as she was drifting off. It really lends the silliness that offsets the dark humor.
glad that the Pilot helped you feel that way about Hazbin Hotel, now once you finish the first season of Hazbin, maybe you'll check out Helluva Boss, it is a webseries done by the same creator as Hazbin in the same Hellverse, but with characters that as of yet have not had any mingling in Hazbin as of yet. i recommend it regardless just because it helps to fill out and expand the Hellverse more, and just because i like it more than Hazbin, but it's in the same vein as Hazbin so you may enjoy it more as well.
