I'm impressed by Harley Davidson's clever but simple marketing. Since its inception, Harley Davidson has marketed an image that targets the insecurities and vulnerabilities of some men by presenting a product that gives those men the illusion of personal power, strength, toughness, coolness, masculinity, virility, and rebellion. These are primal traits that some men want more of, and Harley Davidson knows how to provide illusions that convince those men to buy Harley Davidson products. Loud pipes, black leather, chains, "interesting" costumes and accessories, tattoos, boots, beards, and beer don't embody greater power, but they give some men the hallucination of it. You will read what real power is later in this post. Harley riders are rolling advertisements to the men whom Harley Davidson marketers want to target, and those marketers have engineered this brilliantly, as explained below. Some Harley riders might believe that the riders, themselves, created the lifestyle, the attitude, and the identity that make up the image, but the image was actually engineered by Harley Davidson, the company that sells the products. Want someone to fall for an idea? Then make them think they came up with the idea themselves. Any sense of individuality or rebellion that Harley riders have is actually conformance to Harley Davidson's marketing plan. Harley Davidson has put its customers exactly where they want them. Riders reactions to Harley products and the engineered image and are what Harley Davidson wants to know, because the marketing team plays off of those reactions to adapt their marketing strategy. "Go Woke, Go Broke?" Remember, Harley Davidson isn't a person, even though the business might have been named after real people. It's a company, and executives at Harley won't be harmed if Harley goes broke. Not only have they already banked their salaries and bonuses, they'll just move to another company. Their success (yes, success) with Harley will still stand in their favor. When a company goes broke, it doesn't mean the executives lose their shirts. When a single person, a board of directors, or other C-suite executives at a company can elicit such a dramatic response from thousands of customers via a decision, action, or other flick of a pen, that's not only success, that's power. When they can cause an uproar without breaking a sweat, that's power. Whom do they have power over? The followers. Genuine strength, power, and identity aren't dependent on an external business or product, and genuine strength, power, and identity stand independently on their own and don't need to be displayed for validation. Have you figured out yet who is really being played here, guys?
@deanvaillancourt2881 Here is my definition of woke. Woke is an overabundance of awareness by corporate America that loves to try to capitalize on society issues like being gay or catering to a particular race as if all the other races on earth mean nothing and as if being gay has to be marketed and incorporated into TV shows to gain a financial edge as if the CEOs really give a shit about either cause. A beer company tried it and failed, harley davidson tried it and failed. Woke is a tactic to get attention, while the other 95% of the society gets no attention.

I'm saddened for us and you buddy.... I've not bought a Harley yet in life and I'm 59... My life rider had been my old 1984 Shadow but was finally finally waiting to get my Street Glide... Now I'm totally deflated 😢
Sales in America are down, but sales in Asia are up. Aley is right. I am Thai. I am proud. Many Japanese cars are produced in Thailand and exported all over the world. You don't have to worry about the quality.
NOW they're outraged? NOW? Where was the support when they were busting the unions in Milwaukee and York 20 years ago? I say let them all ride Hondas. I really don't care anymore. All us workers that cared have long moved on. Screw you HD.
It's simple economics, people. In order to remain profitable, HD had to move Its operations overseas. Between over-regulation and over-taxation by the U.S. government, and the constant demand of pay increases by labor unions, they have no choice if they want to stay in business. Blame your government for this.
Worked for HD in several dealers. Parts dept had 80% parts from other countries, oem parts. They been scamming people for years. They only care about profits, not products. Bikes have alot of problems. Ask anyone that truly rides.
The bikes weren't made here anyway they just assembled them here from over seas parts manufacturers. Harleys haven't been made here in a long long time.
Fire the CEO, top management, and all the board members. They are ruining Harley Davidson. Also fire the design team for designing that hideous thing that took the Sportster's place. Also the touring model with a computer screen instead of gauges is total crap.
It started when the last administration imposed trade tariffs to protect jobs in U.S. The European Union reciprocated which meant that HD's became way too expensive in Europe and sales plummeted. The only way around the trade tariffs was to move some manufacturing outside of the U.S. Don't blame HD management, they are just trying to survive. Look at who started imposing trade tariffs to 'protect' jobs in U.S.
Harley sending jobs to Thailand just weeks from Labor. On top of that Harley is sending Thailand part back to America. That's a big slap in the face to American blue collar workers. Harley stab the core base with Woke amd and the Thailand thing. Harley owners are debadging them, shooting at their bikes, burning them. I'm done with Harley and Anheuser-Busch products too. I would Harley needs a new CEO that's American.
I want a Harley Davidson motorcycle but 3 reasons why I am stalling on buying one. 1. This woke crap. The new owner just openly admitted his own personal agenda. It’s pretty clear the American culture is slowly being erased. 2. It’s just too expensive. I get it building and getting workers and materials cost a lot these days but really? I might as well buy a cheaper bike that looks the same. Maybe even performs better. 3. Questioning reliability. I did my own fair share of studying and personally me I really want to support American made bikes however when comparing to any other company Harley just falls short. Again these are my opinions and again I really want to support Harley but I’m slowly leaning towards something else.
@@ryuhadouken2722 unless American manufacturers are willing to dramatically reduce their wages & benefits HD will ultimately relocate…America no longer leaders in manufacturing products but some assembly & distribution - please get real (nothing to do with woke, HD planning decades in advance…mainly cuz most HD clients will be dead anyways
I think the manufacturing in the usa is like australia make it overseas with cheap labour import it back make a bigger profit and the government says they are keeping jobs locally 😢😢😅
Sounds like a temporary move not so temporary. I can understand making smaller displacement bikes for Europe and Asia in Thailand. But not the full size bikes we buy and ride here. To transfer that for one model year it's ludicrous. Too much expense and trouble to do temporarily.
It’s not right but it’s not new. Been happening in many industries for many years. Ross Perot was so right so many years ago. The only way out of this mess is for the U.S. to become isolationist. Not going to happen.
Only doing the move for the 2025 models, that makes absolutely no sense! No company has ever move production for a year overseas, the move always has been permanent. I own a Harley, ain’t getting rid of it as long as i can fix it when it breaks, but totally support the workers, they deserve a peace of mind, and grateful for building beautiful motorcycles that we love and enjoy.
I have rode motorcycle for 50 years and now Owe a Harley Davidson .if the do this stupid move (and no one believes it will be for only one year I will never buy another Harley.
The new factory in Thailand is huge. There is absolutely no way that this move is a temporary one! HD must think people are stupid to beleive otherwise. HD has now gone Woke too. Triumph motorcycles are now made here in Thailand and then shipped back. Harley riders' brand loyalty means absolutely nothing to the German CEO. Milwaukee tools...made in China. Blue Point.....made in China. Snap-on....made in China. Dewalt....made in China. Lay off your own workers but charge the same for the products as when they were made in the USA keeping men and women in employment. Corporate greed at its finest.

I hope this hits the MoCo extremely hard. I’ve been an owner, rider and supporter for over 30 years. If this is Harleys new direction….I’m Out.
Yet they will still charge the same price if not more
Temporary and you believe that
It's transitory..lol
They were only ever assembled in the US anyways, parts manufacturing is all over the world
😂 HD will sell more bikes in China in one year than they sold in the USA in the last century. USA is now #2.
At the end of the day, A corporation is just gonna be a corporation.....
NOW they're outraged? NOW? Where was the support when they were busting the unions in Milwaukee and York 20 years ago? I say let them all ride Hondas. I really don't care anymore. All us workers that cared have long moved on. Screw you HD.
Correct! ....I now thoroughly enjoy the 200% increase in quality, reliability, longevity, handling, and performance of my Goldwing over a Hardley!
Unions caused this situation 🖕
Unions destroyed AMC in the mid 80's.
Unions destroyed P&H in Milwaukee.
Unions destroy EVERYTHING.
It's simple economics, people. In order to remain profitable, HD had to move Its operations overseas. Between over-regulation and over-taxation by the U.S. government, and the constant demand of pay increases by labor unions, they have no choice if they want to stay in business. Blame your government for this.
Moving to Thailand is temporary? BS!
Worked for HD in several dealers. Parts dept had 80% parts from other countries, oem parts. They been scamming people for years. They only care about profits, not products. Bikes have alot of problems. Ask anyone that truly rides.
AMEN BROTHER!!!!!!!!
This administration is going to regulate a alot of business out of the county.
Good thing everyone gives two shts about your opinion.
Pronoun warriors wont buy 20k plus motorcycles.
Ultra Classic is like 32k
That's who is already riding HD
It started when the last administration imposed trade tariffs to protect jobs in U.S.
The European Union reciprocated which meant that HD's became way too expensive in Europe and sales plummeted.
The only way around the trade tariffs was to move some manufacturing outside of the U.S.
Don't blame HD management, they are just trying to survive. Look at who started imposing trade tariffs to 'protect' jobs in U.S.
There is an on going boycott of the brand and this reporter doesn't even bring it up. Just terrible.
Cheaper labor and better weather can be found in the South. What’s wrong with moving production to the Southern states?
Thailand is almost next door to China w/ 1.4 billion people.
Sorry to hear this, HD is lost
Harley has been on a downward slide for years. This shows the desperation
You don't build a new plant in another country for temporary manufacturing.. I call the obvious BS..
They didn't "build" anything. That plant has been there since 2017
Sold my Harleys bought a yamaha. Over priced junk. Shame on you Mr davidson.
....don't forget the 200% increase in quality, reliability, longevity, handling and performance of a Yamaha over a Harley!
So many "American " companies are elsewhere now. Radio flyer, Ford, coke,....... Research it. Nothing left.
Honda should do an ad "Ours is actually made in America" 😂😂
....don't forget the 200% increase in quality, reliability, longevity, handling and performance of a Honda over a Harley!
Which Honda's are "made in america? They stopped making Goldwings here in 2009....
They are just hoping that after a year people forget. Once businesses offshore, they keep offshoring. This is just the beginning.
On a temporary basis. Kind of like inflation is transitory.
Temporary? Harley thinks we are fools.
Time for the brand to die?
Harley sending jobs to Thailand just weeks from Labor. On top of that Harley is sending Thailand part back to America. That's a big slap in the face to American blue collar workers. Harley stab the core base with Woke amd and the Thailand thing. Harley owners are debadging them, shooting at their bikes, burning them. I'm done with Harley and Anheuser-Busch products too. I would Harley needs a new CEO that's American.
Define woke.
@@deanvaillancourt2881 Harley CEO

@@deanvaillancourt2881 So you hate American workers too, just like Harley CEO? I suppose you want Putin as our leader too.
@@allancaspers6471Sure bro. The woke agenda is destroying America yup, not yourself and your bedfellows
Corporations couldn't care less.
Temporary = lies! SHAME on HD!
Why not, Harley Davidson is made of 60% Foreign made parts.
I own 5 bikes, all different brands. The Harley is the most finicky.
Indian.
Buy used. They WERE made in America.
@@relevation0 yea that was my study too
I guess Indian needs to step up the game . Make more readily available dealerships cause I have a feeling a lot will start leaning that way .
I think the manufacturing in the usa is like australia make it overseas with cheap labour import it back make a bigger profit and the government says they are keeping jobs locally 😢😢😅
If Victory come back building the quality they did before even if made in Canada it's American enough for me.
#1 reason I won’t buy a Harley…I’m not gay.
Ha..good one...
Trans?
They do sound fucking stupid with the 150db exhaust. Literally the high-school kids civic with chopped muffler sounds better than that Harley shit.
But I bet you drink Bud Light.
Drinking is for people who don’t know better😁
Zeitz needs to be fired!
I do not own a Harley but empathize with the bike owners and employees. I won’t trust corporate word by even thinking this is temporary.
Sounds like a temporary move not so temporary. I can understand making smaller displacement bikes for Europe and Asia in Thailand. But not the full size bikes we buy and ride here. To transfer that for one model year it's ludicrous. Too much expense and trouble to do temporarily.
Sell them...I'm buying
It’s not right but it’s not new. Been happening in many industries for many years. Ross Perot was so right so many years ago. The only way out of this mess is for the U.S. to become isolationist. Not going to happen.
My friends have since sold their harley-davidson motorcycles since hearing the news.
Does H-D think that we're fools?
If a company invests millions into building a new plant overseas, it's not a temporary transition.
First they go WOKE, now this?
I have rode motorcycle for 50 years and now Owe a Harley Davidson .if the do this stupid move (and no one believes it will be for only one year I will never buy another Harley.
Know you can pick them from all colors of the rainbow for paint
Isn't that fabulous?
Define woke.
@@johnwells2616 It’s called capitalism. Publicly listed companies are supposed to make profits and attain growth. Why the outrage? It’s predictable and probably good business. And yes, you’re using ‘woke’ in a dubious context. If ‘woke’ is what right-leaning folk like to describe anything new, this is pure market-driven economics, a product of right wing ideology. The irony.
Since they're going to use cheap unskilled labor, will they knock off a few thousand off the sticker price?
Price will probably go up to cover the cost of the move 🙄
This move is temporary until they move the rest of production to China.....
I blame the union and the bikes are made poorly
American made or nothing 😢
Most of the parts that they put on those bikes are from China or somewhere where the hell have you been

Who is dumb enough to believe that moving production to a lower labor cost market is "temporary?"
Spelling error in thumbnail. Competence crisis rolls on
I’ve been riding a Harley Davidson for 51 years started out with a knucklehead made it through the AMF years to present. Two weeks ago I traded in my beloved 2012 ultra classic that took me two years to build. I traded it in on an Indian elite, this isn’t gonna hurt Harley one day but my peace of mind is back to where it needs to be. I’m not going to back. Company tries to force their narrative down my throat.
Toyota r produced in Thailand do we stop buying TUCOMA,S as well?
This has got to be the saddest day of my life
I called you here today for a bit of bad news
I won't be able to see you anymore
Because of my obligations(TO AMERICA), and the ties that you have (FOREIGN)
We've been meeting here every day
And since this is our last day together
I wanna hold you just one more time
When you turn and walk away, don't look back
I wanna remember you just like this
Let's just kiss and say goodbye
I had to meet you here today (AT THE DEALERSHIP)
There's just so many things to say
Please don't stop me till I'm through
This is somethin' I hate to do
We've been RIDING so long
I guess what we done, oh was NEVER WRONG
Please HARDLEY, don't you cry
Let's just kiss and say goodbye
Many months have passed us by
I'm gonna miss you, I can't lie
I've got ties and so do you
I just think this is the thing to do
ABSOLUTE BETRAYAL!! Harley riders are loyal almost to fault. To do this is ridiculous!
Drop a little screw and land on their toes and call in sick and file for disability. It's too expensive to do business in the U.S. because of all the scamming for disability.
Well those older USA made bikes just got more valuable
Now It's Hardly-Davidson . . .
It's ALWAYS been!
Time to boycott Hardley Davison...
What makes you think another brand won't follow suit if this HD strategy proves to be successful? Their goal is to woo the Chinese market w/ 1.4 billion people. Thailand sits almost adjacent to that un-overlookable mine.
This CEO has found a way to get back at America.. for loosing WW2
Harley not coming back!
