- Hi Everyone!
Today we unboxed, setup and listened to Monitor Audio's BRAND NEW 2019 GOLD 200 Floor Standing Speakers.
Stay tuned till the end of the video to hear my thoughts on how they sound when compared to the previous generation of Gold 200's.

James, I am loving these videos. Please keep up the good work.
Excellent review I Love all of the tracks you used to audition speakers. My favorite Pink Floyd keep it up.
Love the look and sound of the older speakers
Incredible insight! Leaning towards the Gold 200 vs. the Silver 500 7g's.
They’re different... they’re beautiful. I’m sure they sound great. Good video
those new 200 are really nice looking.
MA have always been great. I had their top of range in 1997 and I think they get better all the time.
Nice video and I love Monitor Audio
You pretty much described what I heard which surprised me. I have to admit the older version seemed more to my liking. Might save me some money too. :)
oh my Lord, that Accuphases are unbelievable.
Absolute value for money. MA never disappoints at all. I’m however still enjoying my Gold 300 previous generation than the new 5th generation, brilliant.
Thanks for setting up this video.....
The generation 5 is so much better than the generation 4 it's not even funnyI don't know where your ears are but I think you should clean them out.
Sounds like the new ones are warmer and has more pleasing characteristics.
Can you also post new MA Gold 100s? I think those might be the best sound under 2k.
Definitely a big improvement. The previous model tweeter was far too bright for my ears (e.g. keyboard intro to Riders on the Storm), which ruled out Monitor Audio for me as a brand. But this new model with improved drivers across the frequency spectrum puts the brand back on my shopping list.
Try plugging the ports at the rear to hear if the bass is more even and less bloat.
Yeah, the shape of the speaker grill is so important compared to the sound.
Decided on the MA Gold 200's and definitely made the right decision! They were a little bassy right out of the box. Definitely loosened up after a couple days of listening and expect them to break in even more over time. For being on the smaller side versus other "tower" speakers, these put out some incredible sound and are very powerful! Strangely enough, my reference speaker wire is also Kimber Kable 8TC and I removed the MA jumpers that came stock on the Gold 200's and using matching Kimber Kable wires. Christened these with Pink Floyd Comfortably Numb, great choice to hear all the nuisances!
Great choice of first song!
Try them on a Naim Uniti star or nova! It drives them better! I have them and the Naim Uniti star
I just purchased these but they are better looking in black that is just my opinion with the ebony wood runner up. I am running a Naim Uniti Star...It makes the speakers sound better than any amp I heard yet on them as well. Naim RuleZ!!
At this price they better make a good job!
Love these speakers but when it came for me to decide on what speakers, were suited to my taste of music (80s, 90s and film scores) l, opted and purchased Mordaunt Short 817 speakers. LOVE EM even in 2019.
I'd suggest running the Isotek Full System Enhancer CD break-in track for around 10 hours before properly evaluating it.
Speakers already had 50+ hours on them before we got them but thanks.
Since you mentioned having auditioned Sonus Faber's new Sonettos. I'm looking into getting one of those. What are your thoughts on the Sonettos? Can we also expect a video on the Sonus Faber?
Simon Schneider Hello, just wondering if you have made decision, as I am also struggling to choose between Monitor Audio Gold 200 and iii Sonettos.
Damn, thoes speakers look sexy. Good job Monitor Audio!
Hey man
What would you take howe ? Silver500 or gold100
Projetos e propostas distintas.
the older gold 200 is a little warmer, smoother but probably because the new model has only been used an hour or so.
The MA gold series is really good !
I'm torn between the MA gold 300 and platinum pl100 ii
What do you think it would be better in a small room ?
I heard both and prefer the 4G Gold 200. I found the highs to be a bit laid back on the PLII.
Hello, Would you say that MA Gold 300 5G to be warmer than neutral? Can I use these 300 for 2.0 stereo or are they HT speakers? Between these Gold 300 5G and Kef reference 3 or 1, which would you pick and why? Thanks.
They're music speakers and u can use them for HT
Having the Glod 300:s of the very same gen i can say i will be hard pressed to ever swap them out.
While I like everything I've read about the Gold 200, I'm a bit concerned about the larger woofer together with the smaller mid-range. I like to hear rock guitar and you mentioned loosing that with the larger woofers. Now that it's been a few months, have they opened up anymore and allowed the guitar to punch through more? How would you compare to the Silver 500??
The bass drivers have definitely opened up to give more punch, the mid range is still mostly the same, not quite as prominent as the 4th Gen gold's.
The sylvers are not even in the same league as the gold the mid-range and tweeters on this one are much better than the Gen 4 Gold.
Del Boca Vista I can confirm those impressions. 5G is a lot harder to drive too. I much prefer the 4G sound over the 5G
Del Boca Vista The tonal balance in 5G is a bit darker and with a prominent bass. The 4G maybe seems more “crystal clear” and airy and the 5G is a bit more full and big sounding
The old gen all the way! The design was better as well, the airplane wing style as u referred to them minimises standing waves etc inside the speaker.
I haven't heard either one. But, I agree with you the older series actually looks better, the old series actually looks like it should be the new series. Also the older series looks like it's better build quality.
but the new 5G is Head and shoulders better than the 4G I had the gold 300 4G and then I tried the gold 305 g and it was so much better it wasn't even funny so I ended up going to the top of the line with the platinum 200 generation 2 which is even better than the gold 300 Gen 5.
the only thing I don't like for that kind of money those feet are so cheap you think they would put a full plinth on the bottom for that price. when I had to drag the speaker across the floor to position it to the feet actually ripped right out of the speaker very cheapy in my opinion, doesn't cost that much to make a full plinth out of MDF or cast aluminum like they had on the gold signature.
@@chrisrichards2827 they apparently addressed this with the new platinum 3g , must've been common to break the feet
@@RennieAsh yeah the gold Gen 5 if you dragged the speaker because it was too heavy to lift the feet would just rip right out for the price you think they would have a full plinth for the platinum and gold they're just starting to get cheaper and cheaper and I don't understand why they're doing that because the labor rate in China is like next to nothing.
Im about to upgrade my front stage so what should I be looking at 200 or 300 or move up to gold series? Right now I have b&w 603 and they just lack the big wow factor in high energy movies they they will get retired to my 2ch set up where they will better perform
Have to say like the old 4th gen better, looks and sound, just wish I had bought them.
Yes
Is old model Monitor Audio GX 200 or GOLD 200? Tnx
GX200 is an older model then the gold 200. The current model is the gold 200 (5th gen).
I have the Golds 4g. Boxes very balanced with excellent bass. Better built, with heavier weight and denser cabinet. The 5g Golds appear to be inferior and appear to be grossly above normal.
Obviously you haven't heard the 5G gold I have and they are like night and day better than the 4G.
Please learn to hold the cam better. Thanks for the demo!

Really lovely looking pair of speakers. I used to have the Silver RX line. it's just a shame the whole High end/Mid range industry is going the way of the dinosaur, Damn Millenials LoL
Not really sure what you mean by any of that.
The hifi and mid-fi audio industries are both still very much alive.
Which Silver RX speakers did you have and how do they compare to the current Silver line? I have the RX1's and RX2's.
@@Ferrari_1996 I had the RX6 standmounts paired with the RxFx rears & the Rxc for the centre, for the lows i was on a budget and got a mid level sub from bk audio
to be honest they changed my life. I was a bowers and wilkins fanboy (still have the pictures to this day)
@@Gadgetlava What do you have now?
@@Ferrari_1996 Great question, answer is what do I not have now LoL, if only UA-cam would allow pictures in the comments like the forums. Long story LONG.... I Got married and my wife Wasn't super keen on my audio/home cinema setup. So some comprises had to be made... The first was the SUB 😭😭 BKXXLS400 to a gemini
What generation are they 4 or 5
The new ones are the 5th gen
The 4g Golds are more beautiful and elegant.
I agree with you.
Gold 5G 200 is equivalent to Gold 4G 300.
I know what your saying, bigger woofers and all, but the mid-range and tweeters are completely new designs.
Actually they're better than the generation 4 300
Unfair comparative test. Models with different proposals. Gold 4G designed for spaces from 9 mts2 to 22 mts2. Gold 5G designed for spaces from 24 mts2 to 35 mts2. This video space seems to be over 24 mts2.
You have no idea what you're talkin about.those 204 g sounded incredible their way more open and focused than the old 4G as good as they were
@@chrisrichards2827 you need to stop drinking the cool aid son. This guys very much knows what he is talking about. Maybe as you say, you might want to clean your ears out.
@@Temmple if you think so lol my system is probably more expensive than yours LOL and if you want to know what I got just email me back.
and I had the gold 4G so I know what I'm talking about, the 5G is so much better it's not even funny I think you need to get your ears cleaned out
@@chrisrichards2827 and this is why you are full of rubbish. Price is not what it’s about. You give real audiophiles a bad name. My system cost more than your is simply foolish.
The older ones sound better to me. More balanced and fuller. The new ones are pinched in the midrange. Too small of a driver.
Yippie , one thing is you can’t compare sound over the internet and also new speakers need time to break in before any comparison can be made
I've been hearing the old Silvers are better than the new ones as well
L .
Too bright for me ! I like better my Silver 10 !
Music sucks speakers don’t
Poor man's kef! On a more serious tone having a smaller midrange driver is a bad decision since thats where monitor audio suffered the most in there past models (gold and silvers).
I guess you haven't heard them that's smaller midrange driver actually makes it faster now so it'll couple better with the Tweeter I've heard it and the sound just blows away the old generation four 300
Nick are you stupid? Kef doesn't even come close to the quality of monitor that is laughable
The mid-range in the generation for was very open and natural but the generation 5 is even better so you don't know what you're talkin about Nick as usual
its a different size driver so you need to move then forward or back so that you get the 125hz peek at listening position.
