I'm an EMT in Arkansas. I have seen multiple people die right in front of me, I've seen brains splattered all over the walls after a suicide, I've had weapons drawn on me, and I just recently worked a high speed wreck in which the patient who was my age died and covered me in blood and organic chunks in the process. I'm 3 months from turning 20 years old. I see more fucked up stuff in a weekend than most people see in their lives. I see things that keep me awake at night and make it difficult to not push my loved ones away. I made 10.36 an hour. McDonalds workers make almost as much as I do.
Andy Pruitt I appreciate you..
Andy pruitt i want to join EMT.but i have no idea of joining.plz help me that how i join EMT.
Cry me a river
That makes no sense you guys deserve at least 50k a year wtf
SLIME WXLF - Are you fucking serious? You belong in a garbage dump.
I grew up with this guy he was one of (and still) my closest friends, were on the wrestling team too. He’s a legit stand up guy who gives a fuck about what he does
Thats awesome!
Jesus that's super low paying for the work they do. Should start at $50k minimum
Berkeclor92 It’s the paramedics making that kind of money. The scope of practice for EMTs really isn’t that broad
@@sneak916 well in South Florida they do pay around 50k for fire EMT and for fire medics they could go from 60k to 80k with overtime. I work for a private company and as a medic I was getting pay 28k but now as a Community Paramedic for the same private company I'm making 52k. But over all EMS field nation wide is under pay.
EMT0210 well that’s different in California. EMT was 1k, fire academy was 5k and medic school was 10k for me. I made 29k as an IFT emt when i first started for a private company. I made around 40k as an emt/firefighter when I got hired at metro fire in Sacramento and now I’m making 110k as a Medic/Firefighter in Oakland, CA
EMT0210 I don’t think it’s underpaid at 50k annual since fire/emt can be accomplished in a year. There’s people with bachelor degrees not even touching near that out of school.
Neeks : can you give me any advice on getting picked up in the Bay Area ? Currently working as a reserve firefighter in the valley
Why dont emts make a livable wage? Yet they expect you to care about someone enough to save their life
XclusiveChiq you’re a spicy ebony mama
One of the main reasons is their level of skills and education. The most a emt goes to school for is a year or two, and compared to nurses what they are trained to do is very limited.
@@GUA10EDITZ the main reason is most of the south is non union. The same job in pennsylvania makes 60 thousand a year.
I agree, they’re extremely underpaid. If you want a decent living most EMT’s need to go back to school and get certified as a Paramedic which is the step above EMT
And are military gets around the same
I’m a EMT-Firefighter in Houston and I have to say this is the most accurate video out here and said it all! Good post!

Emt for 2 years here, I'm full time I work 2 days a week, 24 on 24 off 24 on 5 days off. I made 33,000 last year busting my ass with ot.
I’m an EMT as well. It is a demanding job, and fortunately I’m young. Older EMTs and medics are burned out with reason. If we said we did our job for the money, we’d be lying.
Bruh that burn out hit me at 27, I did it for 2 more years and hated my life
This is so true. I really wanna be an emt but I'm rethinking now :(
@@nikkimacbride7982 You should become a Firefighter Paramedic. They earn TONS of money. I have a friend here in Miami who is a Firefighter Paramedic and he is currently making 80,000-90,000 a year!
@@gameshock3897 Nice, Ill look into that. Thank you
@@nikkimacbride7982 No Problem. Keep in mind that the salary may be heavily different in other states and it also depends how much experience you have, etc. But yea, definitely will bring in more bucks than being a sole firefighter.
Manual stretchers. That's rough living right there.
Damn if that ain't the truth. 300lb patients will take it out of you every time
I quit after 7 years and became a local truck driver.. now I make double delivering produce to hospitals instead of people. hope all of you in EMS stay safe in these times of COVID
When I was dropping off at a hospital ER I started to talk to a security guard that gets paid $20/hr. I get paid $13/hr.
I feel ya
Exactly why im a security guard now and let my emt cert go.
In DC I make $23.71 as a contracted 911. The fire department makes $25 an hour for EMTS. The highest I’ve seen for commercial companies was $20. All depends on where you’re located.
Ebony Alexander can you make a video about your experience? Please
Experience plays a huge role in that too. Plus who you know if your trying to get into hospital based 911
That's how it is here in NYC. FDNY ems starts off at like 17.50, hospitals start at 20(if you can get in. Even with experience they wont always take the best people) and low end ems starts at 10-11 an hour but those places work you for 10-16 hours straight with no real break and will fire you in a heartbeat if you dont comply with thier rules
Trying to complain to osha or doh doesnt work because most of these companies have an inside man that just writes a passing grade
Dc is the highest paid when i was an emt. But also dc is expensive to live in.
Nationally there need to be a raise, not everyone can be a emt in DC .
There certain places in which you make more: for example, in ny you can make up to 18/hour as an emt: sounds fair but when you see the living costs and etc it's still a non-livable wage at all: pay can change but costs do as well
Nothing quite literally burns me up more than hearing “your an ambulance driver?” Really so much more to this job than just being an Uber. Most people unfortunately will not understand the true grind or heart you need for this job unless if they where put up to the test for once
I make $1 above minimum wage as an EMT, which is hard to live on in California
I'm a truck driver in the oilfields of Oklahoma making $19 an hour doing 14 hour days. 5 days night shift, 1 day off, 5 days day shift, 4 days off. Debating on becoming an EMT/Paramedic. Born with a 15% chance of living I want to be an angel to someone and help them in any way I can.
David DeBergh if you become a paramedic it’s 2 years of school and at some of the services you can make up to $34 an hour but generally the higher the pay of the service the worse the working conditions (EMSA is a great example)
( Also I live in Norman but work for Murray county EMS out by Sulfur and Davis)
But if you have any questions I’d love to answer them but you did comment this 3 months ago so yeah😂
Don't do it. Unless you plan on going towards an EMT-P in the long run and are willing to move anywhere in the country chasing a high wage gig. EMT-B is a worthless throwaway cert. I have saved hundreds, if not thousands of lives, and I felt more valued for my skills by my employers as a lifeguard.
I want to help someone, I almost lost my life 5years ago and someone helped me, joining medical field soon
Don’t do it brother
Should have explained training between emt and paramedic and explain why medics only make 2 dollars more a hour and 90% of calls probably don’t need a medic unit
Ian as a volunteer firefighter there are emts in my department that do this job for the same reasons as you(not for the pay). One thing they never ask for but need is a well deserved Thank You for your service.Cannot wait till I get my EMT-B so I can start my career in Health Care and being happy for the job I am a part of. Ian if you are even reading this which you are probably not I dont know if anyone will even see this, I just wanted to say thank you.
I left the field to become a truck driver. What I made as an EMT in two weeks I make in 1 week now.
Vince Brooks brother I feel you 👊
You might want to reconsider the medical field in the future. Autonomous trucks are coming and they will soon replace drivers.
It looks like you haven’t been on this side of the medical field
Raul Espinoza what do you mean
Looking ass: what else do I mean lol. Have you worked as a paramedic or EMT?
being a paramedic myself, I'm going to go on record and say - Behind every good paramedic, there's a better EMT.
I see a lot of people getting an EMT and a Paramedic mixed up in the comment so let me clarify.EMT is a 1 semester class that teaches you the absolute basics life support, paramedics on the other hand go to school 2 year and can do everything a nurse can do except we can intubate people, push certain drugs, and make certain decisions for a critical patient that a nurse can not. The thought of us as just “ambulance drivers” irritates me to no end. Paramedics are as competent, if not more than many nurses. It also irritates me how many nurses don’t know that we are just as educated as they are and treat us like we are stupid. We get paid pennies on the dollar compared to nurses and we provide the exact same care in what can be a much more dangerous environment. Lol my rant is over now (ps I don’t hate nurses, I’m honestly just low key jealous they make twice as much as we do😂)
In my area(CA) there is just certain things that are not in the paramedic scope of practice, such as operation of mechanical ventilators or certain medications. I often see Fire transport a patient with an ICU nurse from the hospital because there are certain things fire paramedics do not have in scope of practice. For example, weight based titration of vasoactive drips such as levophed, nicardipene, propofol. This is why CCT nurses that work on ambulances are a thing now.
Here in Oregon, first responders start at 14.50 and depending on experience and where your at in an EMT to paramedic, you make more. I’ve seen a fire paramedic make around $25/$30. But yes, it is frustrating to know we make a low wage for what we do. This amount also changes per state
the experience is unbridled. especially if you're young, this is a good job to gain experience in and grow as a person, even if you decide not to do it long term. having this kind of experience will also get you a leg up in your resume no matter where you go.
the wage is really low considering the fact that they're practically real heroes.
Thanks for making this video . I grew up with a volunteer Firefighter Dad , who did not care about being paid or not . Im looking to doing paramedic school and becoming a volunteer Firefighter just like my dad
I recently retired from the fire service. I was a firefighter paramedic and my base pay at the time of my retirement was $80k. My first medic job paid about $48k. This guy works in Georgia and pay varies greatly around the country.
He's an EMT, Paramedics are paid more.
@@peepstar8773 In my department 11% more
I live in Los Angeles and worked as an EMT for 2 years and always got paid minimum wage; other companies got paid a bit more ($14-$15 w/ experience) but never a "desired" wage. Most patients asked me if my job made me a lot of money and when I told them I made minimum they were shocked -- not one patient told me I deserved my wage.
At least in LA county they have a higher minimum wage. Here in Orange County they’re paying a couple bucks less. Still, thank you for your service!
@@jonshaw840 Ah really? I would think that in OC they pay a bit more. But yeah, the minimum is somewhat good here but for what we do it is not really enough. Overtime is what helps many of us because almost everytime we work, we go into overtime. Thank you and I appreciate your comment.
I’m taking an EMT-B course just to have it under my belt. I wouldn’t do this as a full time job.
A very informative video, many thanks for the upload.
As an Australian paramedic I'm intrigued with the US system (here Fire, ambulance and police are all state owned services independent of each other).
Apart from the 0600-1800 shifts, do you work any others? We work a 7 line roster that's something like this
Line 1: Mon. 0700-1900, Tue 1200-2400, Wed 1200-2400, Thur. 1900-0700
Line 2 Mon 0700-1900, Wed 1200-2400, Thur. 1900-0700, Fri 1900-0700
Line 3 Wed 0700-1900, Thur. 0700-1900, Fri 1200-2400, Sat 1900-0700
and so on. Basically 4 on, 4 off with a 13 week projection.
Do you always work a mix of EMT and a paramedic? I've heard some US services run with just EMT/BLS ambulances.
Your pay rates seem obscenely low. We make around $85K (US) a year; but the biggest differences are that we have only advanced care and intensive care paramedics (no EMT level), and a lot of newer staff are repaying university fees. Here (like Oregon now I believe), you have to have a Bachelor of Paramedical Science (3 year degree) as a prerequisite to being registered as a paramedic.
Best wishes from Australia.
my apologies 30% of the 2 billion dollar FDNY budget
Where I live in California, the fire department provides the Paramedic level care. I work for a private ambulance service that contracts with the fire department where I live to provide transport for all emergency calls, and the ambulances are staffed by 2 basic emts. Sometimes the paramedics from the fire service ride in with you to the hospital during patient transport, and sometimes they dont. It just depends on the severity of the call. Shift can vary from 24 hour shifts, 12 hour shifts, and 8 hour shifts. I have my pick of either shift time but ai prefer to work 24 hour shifts as it pays a bit more. There are several private ambulance companies where I live. Most will only do non emergent interfacilty transports (hospital to hosptial). They also do transports for police when they have a psychiatric patient. Interfacilty companies sometimes pay more depending on which one you work for. There are some areas of California where private ambulance companies provide emergency service for the city or area they are located in. If that's the case the ambulances are staffed with one EMT and one paramedic. The set up for ambulance and emergency medical services varies from state to state within the U.S. I have family in Australia and next time I'm out there I would love to do a ride along with the ambulance service.
Oregon requires an associate's degree so about 2.5 years for lparamedic licensure.
In Massachusetts we start at $17.36, I guess it all depends on where you live.
Tomas Lajara I live and work as an EMT-B in Mass .....I make $13.80 an hour on the east coast
Peter Whalen you aren’t in Boston I’m assuming
I’m south of Boston in Quincy working for a third party ambulance service
Peter Whalen I’m with Boston EMS, you should check us out, Pay is much greater, but you’ll have to go through more training.
Damn... I make $11.77 in New Mexico
Why in the world are the people that we literally depend on to save our lives not paid more than this?!?
Our country is stingy af. Also a fellow queen fan I see
Paramedics in Ontario in such regions or cities as Ottawa, Toronto, Peel Region, or Durham, have an annual salary starting from $70,000 to $90,000 as a Primary Care Paramedic, an Advanced Care Paramedic's salary can on average range from $80,000 to $100,000, and Critical Care Paramedics range from $100,000 to $135,000. Quote from google, america's health care is just too damn greedy lol. Also EMT makes 50-55k starting since the above statement was for paramedics.
Daaaamn i might move up to Canada lmao !!
These guys are literal superhero’s, how TF do they make such a low income????
Market demand.
Usually have to work multiple EMS jobs for crappy pay, long hours. Many people in EMS are never home because they are hopping between their jobs.
The pay sucks but when you're saving life's or being someone's hero its well worth it beyond the money
Preach
Firefighters in Ontario start at 80k and work up at 120k. Yet our paramedics make 50-80k.
Many new EMS personnel would do the job for free and many do. The EMS companies take advantage of this and keep the pay low as they can to stay competitive. Tax base companies are the highest paying. Most Paramedic programs are a year or less now. CCT and flight medics are paid a bit more.
11 an hour, EMT-B. Nothing else around In my area.
Ive been an EMT in Los angeles for 2 years, its a minimum wage job with poor benefits and its grueling and demanding. Wouldnt recommend it

@@faceripper77 Paramedics don't get paid all that well either.
I work with navajo nation EMS here in New Mexico and basic get paid around 14.44 hr and $30k annually. OT mostly toward the end of the year due to EMTS using their annually leave. "Use it or lose it"
Intetermiate pay 15.47 hr and 32.7k
Paramedic pay 17.82 hr and 44k
Brandon Garnenez wow in Massachusetts EMTS start at like 17.50
Let’s try this.
I'm a paramedic and my wife is an ICU nurse. I make $25/hr and she makes $27/hr. Where her pay really gets higher is shift differentials that medics don't usually get.
Where do you live in order to get paid 25/hr?

alicia ramirez what company I’m with falcon CCT rn Bay Area also.
Maybe consider becoming a firefighter paramedic. They make more than normal paramedics and overtime can let them get a lot more in the way of wages
When I started in 2001 I made 8.00 an hour 19 years later I make 15. We are the lowest paid out of the services it's just how it is
Dude why haven't you moved on to Firefighting, paramedic, nursing, or physician's assistant or something? 🤔
I've been a Paramedic for nearly 10 years and I am moving onto nursing. More career options, better pay and better work-life balance.
I live in California and work as an EMT in San Bernardino County (largest county in the US). ALS runs and average of 8 call in 12hr. EMTs base pay a year is still about 30k a year currently. I agree I'm here for my passion but it's living on strict budget.
Where did you get your certification from?
Yes thank ebony from DC for telling people it depends on who you work for city or town I am from FDNY newyork city fire Department Ems for now still am emt emts top out base pay at 52,000 a year or 26 an hour. Paramedic base is about 64 but with over time emts make well in 70$ or 80 paramedic make well over 100$ easy
What’s the difference between a paramedic and an EMT
Vasty Gramajo Morales paramedics make more, they are more trained so they can administer drugs, IV lines, intubation etc. EMTS are CPR trained First Aid trained and know how to bandage and wrap/etc
Emt B: 4 to 6 months training
Paramedic: 3,5 years training, makes about 3-6 dollars more
There are way more medical responsibilities as well as capabilities: specializing options are different too (wider options)
I do all that except I work for a private company that can't even give me safe, well maintained equipment. My 15 year old rig has very nearly 500,000 miles. We aren't provided much of the basic equipment such as pulse oximeters or proper thermometers.
I delivered two babies in a week, one nuchal cord. No stork pin.
I don't have a station, I have to patrol a 600 square mile area for 12 hours.
I work graveyards because my company routinely tries to mess with our lives with awful schedules that try to force us to quit.
I'm being forced to quit after 7 years because my company actively doesn't want to let me go to school and become a doctor. I'm just a cog in their ailing machine. Which sucks, because I know my skills are well versed and I am able to provide much better, safer, and efficient care than a brand new EMT straight out of school.
Also, most hospitals won't hire EMT's anymore. So your certification is worthless outside of ambulance services which almost all have the same garbage pay and working conditions.
If you want to help people and be in revenues, get a medical assistant (MA, all the same essential skills) cert and go work in an emergency room, and work your way towards an RN. Then become a badass flight nurse on air evac or critical care trucks and make actual money
in delaware, emts start at 14 to 16 an hr. we have no state tax. depends on where you live, but you can live somewhat ok on that pay, its definitely lower than what it should be, but you can survive on it. for the amount of schooling involved (about 4 months here), its a step above entry level work.
I became an emt in newyork state its hard but worth it
Hello allstarNerd.. i want to join EMT i am not from USA.can u explain that how i join EMT.i like to do EMT job.give me da procedure of joing EMT.THANKS.
mujeeb ur rehman i have a video about it on my page
I am going through EMT training right now for a lifeguard job I already have. We have to do 2 ride alongs. I could not believe how little the EMTs make. A hamburger chain out here on the west coast pays a higher starting wage. I am not trying to put down fast food jobs. It is honest work but EMTs are far more skilled. One of the EMTs tried to talk me into working for them. I told him sorry you guys make way to little. I guess it is all supply and demand. There are quite a lot of people that want to move up to fire or police depts. so they don't have to pay as much as they are worth.
Most people do it for the experience, not the pay. It’s entry level to healthcare , that’s why they can get away with paying us so little. My salary was 12.50 an hour running 911 calls in southern california
Alvin H. I started out in So Cal in the 90s making $4,50 an hour on a 24!
I got told a story from one of the emt's I know where he got chased around an apartment by the patients drugged out boyfriend, I found it hilarious.. he also does now, but at the time he did not (it actually only happened like a month ago) and he is still a fairly new emt as well.
As a paramedic I’d like this guy as my partner
Very good and informative video!
The pay isn't based on how difficult or critical the job is, but rather, on how easy or difficult it is to fill the position. It'd be nice if an EMT basic made more, but the reality is that while those positions are filled at these rates, there's no incentive to increase pay, because there's no reason to do so.
There is another problem, too, and that is the fact that this field is not particularly lucrative for the company that operates the service. A county-run service would need to increase taxes in order to boost EMT pay. A private service would need to have to collect more often than they do in order to increase pay. Any current EMTs or Paramedics want to share what the collection-rate is? Isn't it like 30-35% collection on billable services? Keep in mind that the service cannot refuse to answer a call to someone who they know for a historical fact cannot pay.
I'm just doing transfers, no reason to do rescues. No money and too much stress. No lunch break and you get to deal with a sassy nurse from time to time that'll just make your ears shoot steam
Well said lol...you're right man. Unfortunately my system does both but I agree with you man. Too much liability and stress for what...?
To add to what I said...I feel like there are sooo many egotistical EMTs that are afraid to just settle with IFT work. It's low risk and pays more. Easy money guys.
I do 72 hour shifts once a week and bring home 1,100 bi weekly.
Slappy Spankers That is a lot of hours! but what do you if i may ask? I wondering in life what to do and i have no idea
What they don't tell you is that yes we may be low payed they can get plenty of hours there is always people calling off and shifts to pick up.
Enjoy constantly working and never having a life. No thanks.
@@Medicgal Well then look at another profession, this job is not for everyone especially not someone who bitches about it
Ive been a paramedic for 20 yrs....in EMS for 20 plus. Money isn't part of the equation. You aren't going to get rich doing this job. You either love it for what it is, and what you have the capability to do....or you leave it. Simple as that. I'm a firefighter/paramedic, would I like to make more money? I'd be lying if I said no. But how much would be suitable? You can't put a price tag on life saving. You start making it about money, and you forget about what matters. The people we lay hands on, the ones we put in the back of our trucks...and the families whose lives we also impact.
I'm expecting 50k a year average HOURS about $25 an hour.

You can become a paramedic/ Fire paramedic. Much more advanced emergency care, comes with significantly more responsibility and pay. Pay depends on where you work though.
That’s super low come to fla we looking at 43 to 48,000 a year
43 is barely a livable wage
You work 1 day on an 2 days off. Bt for 3 days Week of work
43-48 is extremely livable in fla, In the south ems workers are usually paid higher wages, here in mass making 30-33

What about the OT I’m sure as a EMT you work from 12- to 24 shifts ????
I work a ton of OT where I work in Southern California. It depends on how much overtime you can work. It's always available.
Thackmaster Videos how long are your shifts ?.. I’m starting college and really thinking about getting into the same field 😃
@@marcb5406 where I work you can either work 10 or 24 hour shifts. I highly recommend 24 hr shifts. If you work for a company that runs 911 calls, usually the 24 hr shifts get the bulk of the good calls. Its just easier all around too working 24s IMO.
Thackmaster Videos thanks ! What is the hourly rate if you don’t mind me asking and do you like what you do ?

That’s because it is. It’s a rental car license plate
I'm thinking of becoming an EMT. Anyone know why the wages are so low? Like what's the cause of that?
First suggestion, do not become an EMT. Become a Paramedic. A Paramedic requires more education than an EMT, which brings in a higher salary.
Anyways, on the wages, the wages are really different all around the country. I have a guy in Texas making 53,000 a year including hazard pay as an EMT. (But for an EMT to be making this much is EXTREMELY rare. He is not the normal. EMTs usually just make 27-35,000 a year)
I have a friend right here in Miami where I live who is a Firefighter Paramedic, making 85-90,000 a year including hazard pay.
So, what it looks like to me is, being an EMT only or a Paramedic only isn't going to give you a good salary, but if it's mixed in with a Firefighter Position then you can expect some bucks.
Anyways, the wages are low because:
Paramedics & EMT don't need intensive education
Supply And Demand
''EMTs are plentiful in most urban areas and often paid near the minimum wage.
Opportunities for EMT work are often plentiful both inside and outside of the EMS environment.
Paramedics and nurses, by contrast are usually in higher demand, especially as services upgrade to the ALS level creating significant demand with a more limited supply of workers.
As a result, EMTs don’t make much, but paramedics tend to earn more. Supply and demand, however, is only one piece of the wage puzzle.'' - EMS1
@@gameshock3897 Thank you so much for the explanation. I'm gonna consider what you said as I make my next decision
@@surnoyabrown no problemo!
Why did he switch from firefighter to emt ?
Severely underpaid for what they have to go through and see on a daily basis
It’s disgusting these people get paid so poorly. They deserve much more.
The whole field of EMS needs to stop telling people "you don't go into EMS to make money you go into it to help people." It's bullshit brain washing basically. We are told when we go to school to expect lower wages but it's all good cause you're helping people. There is no reason in this day and age that we in EMS can't make a living wage. The education requirements are higher and continuing education is constant and more skills and info are being add all the time. You are expected to do and know more and more but are not being compensated for it I've been in EMS for 11 years, half of it as a Paramedic. I currently work in an emergency room and plan on going back to school for my RN. No sense in staying in a field that is stagnant and you have only a few job options as paramedic. No thanks, I'd rather open up my options and get paid better. EMS is losing people all the time and there are shortages of EMS all over the country. People in this field are sick of working for shitty pay and working shitty hours to take care of some truly sick/injured people but we are also taking care of tons of of people who abuse the system.
Amazon workers out here getting paid $15 and hour
leesly B right lol 😂
Been an EMT for 3 years I make minimum.. lol too many of us out there
That pay is way too low..wtf
No its not
When he said 28 did he mean 28 dollars an hour or 28k a year? Jesus Christ I work as a security guard and I make 31k a year.
I am a Paramedic and make close to $70k base pay. You just have to work your way up and work at the right places.
Ive been an EMT for 2 years and make 12.00. The system is broken, the healthcare system is all about money
Lol brother that’s how it is
Dam they get paid so little for saving lives?? Smh
Its the market value.
These guys are more of a hero than cops yet they get paid nothing in comparison. Ridiculous
All these EMT’s making 25k a year. Time to get a new job!
They don't do it for the money. They do it cause it's a job they love to do everyday
It’s a job with incredible burnout and stress on a family. Might as well make some money if you’re going to be sleep deprived, divorced and psychologically injured.
JOKER 752 that’s true a bit but gratification doesn’t put food on the table.
👍
isnt it sad that so many people become EMTs and paramedics to become a firefighter? there are not many EMS purists out there and shit pay is why... dont linger around private ems
What is the qualifications for paramedic ?
බ්ලැක් න් වයිට් Uae you must first take and pass EMT course which is about 3-6 months and when you are certified EMT you can take a paramedic course which is typically 10-16 months of classes depending on the course. Certain amount of class work and roughly 500 clinical rotation hours depending on how quickly you complete each requirement I.e certain amount of IV’s , team leads etc.
@@ChrisStAubin-ih6um 22 months of training to become a paramedic? That probably on par with an Australian university degree in paramedicine which is 117 weeks or just under 27 months. No EMT level here, so if you want to work in EMS you need good grades. Many do a combined paramedic/nursing degree so can be a registered nurse or registered paramedic.
Tyfys
ok but will this be substantial can i support a family can i get rich doing it?
haha i mean if im willing to put up with emotionally traumatizing can i save up and get well off doing this shit? i'll be the best godamn emt out there but i want to know am i going to get fuckin, wealthy. -_- dont be modest just tell me.
Absolutely not
you’ll barely make enough to make ends meet. Honestly look into becoming a nurse or a PA (physician assistant)
Lets put things into perspective. The average ambulance bill is $2,000 + $40 per mile driving you to the hospital. Ambulance crews average 6 calls per 12 hr shift. A refusal to transport is $600. Busy metro system averages 700 calls in 24 hours everyday of the week. Do the math people. Is not that EMS personal lack education. The reality is that they are being exploited by the private sector. Every year we loose excellent EMT/Paramedics to job in truckdriving or custodian jobs at the hospitals because the pay better. EMS needs to be a City or State job. The private sector must be abolished.
He works for the fire department. The vast majority of EMS is delivered by the government through city, county, and ESD (emergency service districts). It's mostly uncle sam bending you over. Most people in most areas don't pay the bill anyway. Some areas have better reimbursement rates. The overall cost includes downtime (EMTs aren't utilized 100% of the time like a doctor is). , training, the salary of course (don't forget that the hourly wage is only 1/3 of the cost of the employee), the fire station, the equipment, medications, etc.
Private EMS systems generally run on smaller budgets and the cost is about the same to the consumer. I've worked for both, but this can vary based on your location.
The private sector must be abolished
no offence but obviously this is traumatizing. like you see people injured or ripped apart of whatever and emtoional trauma and blah blah OBVIOUS
bruh like training talk time talk money... like how long will it take and can i determine if its for me through training what are good resources what kind of personality types are good fits etc.
everyone just rants about how emotionally demanding it is... but common you are an EMT like what did we expect it to be like?
its either this type of shit or miilitary though id rather be a warrior who saves lives rather than takes them so either way. we will learn how traumatizing it can be as we go along and the ones who cant handle it will drop off.
thank you for making this video sorry for being so critical but i mean its youtube so im sure there is worst down here in the comments.
Welcome to EMS, where they work us like we’re black and pay us like we’re Mexican. Also mandatory to have a dark no holds barred sense of humor.
Damn
This is uber with lights and sirens
😂
As an EMT all he does is drive, especially on an als truck.
In before BLS saves ALS comments

Good evening I am EMT b I will like to have your contact please
Petition to give emt's a livable wage 🗣
Depends on how you're trying to live. We can do a lot more with little money than we're programmed to think.
Jeremiah Will Yeah and you can do a lot more as a homeless person than you think 🤦♀️
Florida emts get paid pretty good we start off around 15-17$ an hour er techs make more and you live pretty good as an emt/firefighter. Not there yet though
I really dont mind being paid a low wage. I do it to help people. And pay my rent second. The mission is what drives me in life. Not the paycheck.
@@akimbo7053 I have a friend who is making 80-90,000 a year being a Firefighter Paramedic in Miami. Florida is a great place.
👍
I work as a firefighter/EMT-B on 24 hours shifts and make 9.50 an hour in Mississippi. Love the work and I don't do it for the money, but a pay raise wouldn't hurt.
Dude you serious!?!? That’s crazy 😧 I was watching another EMT video and they girl said she started off making $10 an hour. I live in South Carolina and I know somebody who just got certified for EMT. He makes $13 a hour.....I currently work at a grocery store and make $10. I’m going to school to be an EMT but I’m not stopping at just EMT, I want to be a paramedic
@Aaron Wells Well, they risk their lives day in and day out to protect the public. So much for "bull crap" lmao
Aaron Wells not bull crap at all. The pay you make as an emt-b in Missouri is around $10.50
Shart McGee how many hours do you do of OT?? Where I’m from they start you off with the same but you only work 12 to 24 hour shifts
lmao gotta love AMR MS
These guys are heroes and they make 1/2 the average salary? Wtf
@Logan Trudel no true many emt leave and do something else they also work 2 jobs
@Logan Trudel you can make 100k and over in U.S. but i'd say you have to be lucky it's not common that's what I'm trying to say.
@Logan Trudel depends on education, experience, state, city, and company in the U.S. but our firefighters make A LOT of money depending of course. most switch careers.
@Logan Trudel bruh, I can guarantee they will not triple his pay in a year. And a year is not a long time...
Entry level...
I'm 17 and I'm training to become a EMT in my senior year of high school 🥰
You and me both.
No way that’s super cool how did you get into that
I know it's been a year but, how'd it go?
@@cesarmora3877 my public high school offered the class for free for seniors who chose allied health as their "major" In the program they had three options first aid, emt, and or Lifeguarding most students chose all three.
@@candidlyopinionated19 it was good when covid hit tho we did end up doing everything online except for when we had hands-on we would meet in an open park with many safety precautions it was a bit stressful but totally worth it
That pay is extremely low.
Cody Patino people do it because they want to help and they love what they do
Frosty I understand.
Frosty It’s great and all to love what you do, but you also have to eat, and provide for a family. Providing for a family on 20-30 a year is almost impossible.
In some cities firefighter-EMT will start over $50k/yr
Although EMT with a private ambulance company, even if they are running 911 service, top at 18\hr.
@@ramboxlegacy14 This. I agree 100%.
