As a long-time player, I'll confirm something. The servers for this game have been unplayable for quite some time. Started all the way back in 2020. Fixed in 2022. Now, they've started again in early 2024. Hoping valve do something about it considering they just left the whole community on an empty promise, like with TF2
Empty promise at first, but they did remove the bots in TF2. I still see some cheaters in casual but the game is bot-free. Hopefully, they fix L4D2 as well.
@leviathan-r8f alright so just gonna ask here do you know him do you know he's addicted wait you aren't in his life don't know him then why say it but not everyone is addicted lol
It happened to us while we were working on cinematic video, we gave up due this issue, so on project atm can work only one person, hopefully Valve will do something real quick...
actually this happened before september. it started the same month that fiasco with windows crashing servers and computers with a certain software. BUT, i think they just got fixed yesterday. i was playing and people were promising official was working again and i played an entire game just fine. And, yes, local servers do work just fine. everyone does it except yesterday cuz thats when they started to go back up. And as for the mods on local, i believe its because some mods need extra tweeking to get it working if you do local. Whereas if you do dedicated, only yourself can see the mod. I think when youre hosting local with some mods it tries to make it where other people will see it if tweeked properly. Or you may just have to set sv_consistency to 1.
Again? ok am so mad now, thought what am really worried is for my own server, my 10 player survivor server, i was still paying rent for it incase me and my friends play custom maps but the problem is it's going to make me get nothing is my server also got hit, no wonder why there are no players after checking it after this video.
Unrelated to ddos, the reason why friends couldn't join your local server is most likely because of a script mod you have installed, script mods work fine in official dedicated but in local if everyone doesn't have the same script mod installed it'll always show that error. So either turn off the whichever script mod you're using or have your friends install all script mods that you're using.
The best way to fix this is to type “+clientport 27006” into your launch options (right click l4d2->properties->launch options) the for the number (27006) it can be anything above 27005 which is default I believe so you can do 27007,27008,27009, don’t ask me how this works it just does sometimes, also remove the “ “ when you put it in
It's been happening since January, hell, even since the last quarter of 2023 and yet Valve still does nothing because they're not profiting from it. It's lately becoming deadgame and all of this mess is because of the TLS update. This just shows that they don't really care to L4D2, they didn't even bother to implement the same update they did to TF2.
Also you have probably noticed that heavily modded chinese servers which have flooded the game and even the browser. They have probably also hacked the matchmaking. Every time I want to join a different campaign, it just gets me to the same annoying server again and again.
A lot of stories of old games's multiplayer getting hacked it seems. Cod and this, what else? Id say tf2 but the bots have been all banned for the most part.🤞
On xbox, everything has been fine. Me and my friends have been playing. Last night, my internet hard crashed, like the worst i have ever seen it. I'm not sure if itrealted or not. (I was host)
Can anyone tell me if it's actually safe to play on steam? I seen plutonium doing lfd servers so I assumed it wasn't safe. And plssss @ me so I get the notification
@meeiikkee It is safe, at least right now. There has been RCE issues in the past that have been since patched out officially. The game is still updated and maintained. Usually the exploits are patched before they even become public, usually after being reported by HackerOne. I'm assuming Plutonium is doing l4d servers in the case that an exploit is found and isn't patched in the future, or to play while there's an on going issue, waiting for it to be patched. Also be aware that your IP is exposed while playing at the moment, although there have been a good amount of patches trying to avoid it from happening. Using a VPN is recommended
What do you think about the idea that these hackers are being hired by AAA game companies who are trying to eliminate legacy games as competition for their corporate slop?
gonna give this a shot while this shit is in my algorithm. how do y'all play a game where you can't even practice multiplayer solo without getting kicked for no reason?
Ddosing doesn't mean the "servers are hacked", distributing packets to take down servers has nothing to do with compromising or breaching the security of a server, to say so would be misleading, should probably sort out that title. I'd imagine if it were hacked, remote code execution would be possible, or something of the sort that actually risks the privacy of users or the integrity of the servers' security.

just because a game is old doesn't mean it shouldn't be loved and cherished. This game is a classic and people are rightfully mad about not being able to play this masterpiece of a game.

"there was a mod that wasn't compatible"
I think you have to have sv_consistency set to 0 on your server which you can put in the console
For such a simple game, why are people doing this?
People who are misrable who lives in there basement has nothing better to do in there life
Pure degeneracy
Bad times for zombies!

Do you play with "sv_consistency 0"? This should fix that mod compatibility error.
I only do when I play modded campaigns, usually local works without it. I'll give it a try though!

A ddos attack isn’t a hack, just a attack, a good example of game servers being hacked is black ops 3

As far as I know the only mods I have are cosmetics, but yeah I'll try disabling all the mods just be sure. Thanks for the advice!
That's a relief to hear that it gets patched. I was just now getting back into L4D2 again and of course this would happen. Hope it gets patched soon.

call me paranoid but the source engine itself is just too vulnerable to bother playing multiplayer on.
