Always find your vlogs informative and entertaining. Look forward to the next one.
Thanks Julie. :)
I'll save you 15 minutes!
LOVE: 1) Size 2) Video 3) Focus peaking 4) Customization 5) Flippy screen
HATE: 1) EVF delay 2) No face detection in 4K 3) Switching lenses 4) No ISO dial 5) Settings that disable other features without explanation
Jeremy 1) actually SIZE ADAPTABILITY.....
Ok but regarding EVF, that's just the initial turn on delay -- not a persistent latency while shooting? It's due to the way it detects your face, by blinking a small infrared led every second or so. They could perhaps speed up the check in future versions, I don't think doubling the frequency of blinking would decrease the battery.
Thank you! It's a good video but far too long for just this info.
Save me 15???shoot I want 15 more! Great videos Omar.
Fujifilm needs to watch this
Good one, Omar! Always enjoy your videos! And yes, the X-T20 is a little gem, love the camera.
Been watching your videos and I’m a subscriber. I know you put a lot of effort into your videos and your content is always useful. I like how you present information (not overly technical) and your sense of humor. Keep up the great work Omar. I see a new video and I click 😊.
just picked this up - binging all your videos to get me up to speed. great stuff, thanks bud!
Really enjoyed that video Omar, highly entertaining, funny and informative, i got my X-T20 around the same time as you last year and agree with all the good/bad points, really hoping you do a review on the 56mm lens you bought, still undecided if I need it in my bag or not, keep the videos coming!
Yah...need to do that one.
It is a real pleasure to watch your videos!!
Greetings from Dortmund-Germany...
Seb
Hi Omar. A year ago I was not in to photography. A year later I am addicted thanks to you and this great little camera. Your video covered all the pros and cons and like you they are more niggles than cons. The biggest love is that I have discovered the world of photography so keep all the technique videos coming. My Hate is that it made me develop gear acquisition syndrome (or as my wife puts it "All the Gear and No Idea") ....Harsh but true! Anyways, I now have an extensive selection of the XF lenses and they are great, especially the 56mm (looking forward to your long awaited video on this) and then horror, I picked up an Xpro2, fell in love and parted with some serious cash. So now have the best of both words and no excuses. So wallet empty but have found a hobby I can do all the time. Thanks and regards Steve, Dubai.
That's really great! Yes...be careful in the honeymoon phase...you just want everything!! :) I almost picked up a graphite xPro2 after picking it up. I think these things are like the ring in the Lord of the Rings. Cheers
Omar, Your video was the first one to actually keep my attention where I watched it from start to finish! Thats is not an easy task! Your video didn't waste the first 5-7 minutes telling me everything about nothing, the information you talked about with the X-T20 was extremely helpful, as well as the links you provided! Great sense of humor - thank you! ...scotyb
Great video - had me in stitches !!
hahahahahhahahah shooting the card out has got me laughing for the past 2 minutes, how do you make a camera review so entertaining?! :'D
Great vid Omar. Thanks for sharing!
Entertaining vid Omar! Love yer style! Thank you!
Really great review. I love this honest type of reviews when most of the people now do kinda paid reviews. Funniest review also! Just subscribed.
I love your videos! Informative and funny! I've just got myself an X-T20 so thank you for the information.
You are Hilarious! Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the "loves" and "pet-peeves". I'm new to the Fuji Film X-T20 family and I'm making sure I get all the insight on the camera. Happy Camera-shooting!
Love your videos. Between them and my basic photography class, I've been able to figure out how to use the camera, more or less. My simultaneous like/dislike is how many options and menus there are. After I've had it a while I think it will be all like and no dislike.
Just to thank you for the great work!
Bought a X-T20 three weeks ago (i know, x-t30 was comming, but got a great deal) and i can't be more happier. Former Nikon D5500 user for 3 years.
Keep up the good work :)
Best regards from Portugal
Thank you Luis! Great wine in your neighborhood. :)
Just upgraded from my xt1 which I loved. Miss the large evf but loving the quality of the photos it produces.
The front dial is used for aperture when the lense doesn't have aperture ring, like the 16-50mm. Also, you can control the exposure if the exposure dial is in C position.
Or for the wonderful little 27mm pancake lens.
Thanks for your videos, from Steve , Buckinghamshire, UK. Purchased 2 weeks ago , quite a learning curve understanding the navigation around the controls, you have made it easier.
I bought this camera last November thanks to you mostly. It's my first "real" camera and so far I really love it. I watched a lot of reviews on YoutTube and on the internet but you are the main reason I chose the X-T20. Your videos are always a great mix between information and fun and I really enjoy watching them everytime, your style really is somthing :) Anyway just wanted to thank you for the good work you've been putting all this time for us. Hope you will keep up with the good work...
Thanks so much...really appreciate it.
youre sense of humour really adds to your videos. nice job !
Loved the video and I will be back for more!
Awesome! Totally agree! Have been getting my hands on a lot of manual lenses... Focus peeking!!!!!!!! Yum yum! Loving the camera!
Great video, as always!
I agree with the hate of the front dial its limited without any customisation option, Id even forgot it existed until your video mentioned it !
One of my hates was the viewfinder eyecup being tiny and no way to swap it to a bit bigger eyecup, I modified my eyecup using Sugru to extend it to a bit bigger size making it more comfortable to use... Ive never cared much for eyecups on any other camera apart from the XT20 :/
Great video (and the Rokinon 12mm one too) - subscribed. Thanks!
Such. A. Fantastic. Video! You're funny, informative, genuine, and happy. I love it dude! Next time you come to Utah, hit me up! Seriously...
Oh Yeh! I've been loving your videos on the X-T20. I got mine the day after the release date. I've learned a lot from you and I let you do all the hard experimental work then I come in and use it. When you come to Utah if you're near Salt Lake City, I'll buy you lunch. . . Oh, and pick your brain too.
Scott Law so nice thanks!!
man, you're presenting style has me in stitches! Great video. ;)
:)
Recently broke up with Canon... Decided to buy a used X-T20... Yer helping me assimilate! This camera is fun, your videos are fun. Thanks Omar!
Had fun watching your review after one year...I remember when you got it!
Bevaun Ragobeer time flies!!
Always learn new and helpful camera how-to's (and hornet -to's) Can't thank you enough!
leslie baker so glad to help!
Enjoy your videos. Always fun and always informative. I first dipped my toe with Fuji and the X-T10 before trading my Canon gear and going with the X-T2 which is amazing. Interestingly, I keep going back to the X-T10 but your videos make me feel I should think about the X-T20. Only thing holding me back is the upcoming X-T2 update and the possibility of an upgrade in the not too far distant future for the T20. No rush, I love what i've got!!!!
Don't get all G.A.Ssy on us! lol...you have great gear. I'm interested in the xt2 update for sure.
i dont know when i watch the entire video... i keep on laughing... your video is so entertaining...
Just got this camera and you showed me focus peaking! Wow...its great.
Hey! Great video as usual! I have a canon 6d but i am looking to swap it. Do you think is still a good time to swap for the X-T20 or should i wait?
Many thanks and keep up the good work
Damn! I was planning on making a similar video! I have a lot of similar loves/issues with mine! I love my X-T20 and the image quality is pretty fantastic! But I despise the mic adapter requirement above all else! So dumb! I broke one adapter while climbing Kilimanjaro and had to use the internal mic the rest of the trip. But I was actually quite surprised at the quality of the internal mic when outdoors. Minus wind. And seriously though! The video is great!
Thanks Nick...appreciate it. Internal mic totally not bad!
Omar, I’m a Canon shooter who got a Fuji XT-20 a little while ago to experiment with mirrorless and having a small portable camera for walkabouts and cycling, where my canon gear is weighing me down, good as it is. It’s been really fun to use, but I find it is a different type of shooting to when I need my Canon, it is slower and a bit more fiddly, and the size comes with compromises, as you have mentioned. The main pet peeve for me is the position of the bottom mounting screw next to the battery hatch, off centre and in the way, since I need it for attaching my sling (the Peak Design slide lite), combined with my other pet peeve, the SD card slot in the battery bay. Basically I have to undo the sling every time I want to unload the card, which is really annoying. With my Canon, I have a sling with built in Arca plate, and it never comes off even when using a tripod. With the Fuji XT-20, I need the hex wrench handy every time. I misplaced the wrench that came with the sling, but fortunately it is the same size as the IKEA hex wrenches, which I have a few of by now. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be able to unload the SD card, or stop using a sling. I like neither prospect.
Another compromise is the cramped grip, you cannot hold it for extended periods of time like I can my Canon without muscles in the hand getting cramped, and I frequently accidentally press the rightmost d-pad button in trying to get a secure grip. I haven’t yet got a 3rd party grip, the existence of which is testament to a widespread problem, since the Fuji native grip is prohibitively expensive, and Amazon stores don’t always post outside America (I’m in Australia), which leaves the cheaper generic grips that don’t interest me. I’ve been waiting for a chance to get a Meike XT20G grip, which looks like a clone of the Fuji grip, but at half the price, and I’ve finally ordered one from a potentially dodgy eBay seller with lots of accounts and not-great ratings, but it is one of the only ways of getting it here,, the other is to sign up for AliExpress. Better the devil you know, and the fewer places that have my credit card details, the better. While I like having an aperture ring, I don’t love that Fuji’s lenses don’t use mechanical aperture rings, and sometimes without stops or clicks. But I’m not sentimental; Changing aperture on my Canon was always quick and convenient from the right hand controls.
The addition of the touch-slide to change focus point when you have your eye to the evf was a bit disappointing in it’s implementation, not as good as Canon’s for instance (patent issue?), but better than nothing when you don’t want to take your eye from your composition.
The one point I didn’t agree with you was the position of the lens release button, as I first used Pentax and Ricoh SLRs, then a Pentax DSLR, all of which have the button on the right, where you can securely hold the camera while releasing the lens with a finger, while holding and twisting the lens off with your left. It is one of my gripes with Canon; without my camera sling and camera bag, I would be fumbling the body and lenses precariously if I didn’t have a table to put everything down on. As it is with the Canon, I open the camera bag, remove the lens and put it in the bag, while I let the body hang down, face inwards, so I can change lens caps and get the new lens ready.
Basically I find it a different kind of photography, not as fast as with the Canon, but great for walking around taking my time manual focusing with my 35mm f1.4 on flowers or the like, else putting up with the relatively slow focus on that lens. The kit 18-55mm lens is a great all-purpose lens as long as I don’t need fast apertures or too much bokeh.
I find with the Fuji, I leave it on JPEG and RAW, whereas with the Canon, I don’t bother with the jpegs, since my early experiments showed I could always do better in my Raw converter, even when there wasn’t any dynamic range issues, the Raw just looked nicer even with the Auto adjust (initially Aperture, not Capture One). But with the Fuji, I get some really pleasing JPEGs, especially when experimenting with ACROS B&W. This way, I get nice B&W out of the camera, while having the RAW for any colour if I want, or a different B&W processing. Also, the Wifi sync to my phone is actually useful and convenient, whereas on the Canon I experimented but stopped using it, as it was a pain, and the jpegs not as nice. A quick Snapseed edit is all it ever needs, if that; SOOC is usually sufficient bar any cropping or artistic effects like vignetting.
You do such a great job of these videos
So hilarious! I love this video! Thanks for review! Greets from Vienna, Austria
Katarina Kostolanska thank you!!!
Funny and informative. You're doing good work, sir.
Hey, you make great content! I follow your videos. almost all of them ;) I love how you make it informational yet entertaining and hence light enough for audience to stay engage and grasp stuff you are trying to explain. Funny thing... I myself experienced the same "Gu gu gu gu... " lag even with xt2 EVF and guess what I was also in New Orleans then!! When you mentioned that, it was like DejaVu... as I knew exactly what you were talking about :) You keep making content and we shall watch!!
Whoa...maybe it's a New Orleans Voodoo...gugugu thang. :)
The card launch was epic, replay it so many times lol!
Hi Omar Gonzalez, I love your UA-cam videos! I’m an amateur with a DSLR Canon and apparently thinking of switching into another better cam for some casual/street shooting. Fujifilm is first option for me to go for, then I found your page. From all your video has made me know all detail about Fujifilm. Now me decision will go with XT20, I’m saving up now. Thanks tho!
Ku - kuku - ku ;cD OMG, I cannot stop laugh.
+1 by far the funniest person on youtube
hahaha that delay is so true, and that's the best description of that problem 😂😂😂
Pretty sure it's spelled "guh, guguh guh."
Miloslav Stibor me2 hahaha
Hahahaha
Thanks Omar, great video! Definitely agree with a lot of your points, but overall I'm loving Fuji coming from Nikon. No regrets!
Anthony Y cheers brother!!
Cool video bro. Very entertaining :). I’m thinking about buying the t20 (nikon user) and I think you’ve convinced me.
Great information. I'm new to Fujii so this is very helpful!
Same
I'm an Olympus OM-D shooter and I got to say I really like the Fujifilm and I want to love it.
I really saw the difference to the slow response time you mentioned about EVF.
Feature I found most annoying is the difference between the very hard click of the exposure comp and the soft click of the front and back dial.
With that say...it is a brilliant camera. Gosh...it makes me want to have a second camera system.
Two tips and one thanks. I’ve played with a couple workarounds for the EVF switch delay. Both felt awkward at first but can become almost second nature. Rather than bring the camera straight up to your eye, bring it up through an arc that’s closer to your body to trigger the sensor (it will switch when an object is 2” away). Another option is to swipe your thumb past the sensor when bringing the camera up to your eye (don’t have to reach far given the small camera size). I admit neither of these tricks should be needed, but I hope they’re useful to some. Finally, huge thanks for pointing out the utility of Auto for video. I hadn’t made that connection and was shying away from quick grab video of family especially.
Great suggestions man. I’ve used the thumb trick. But not the body one. Sounds sexy. :) Glad you discovered AUTO.
I have followed your videos since Nov2017.. After a week of watching those videos, i sold all my canon gears and bought this Fuji XT20 with 18-55 lens.. And so far, it's FANTASTIC!!! Thank You, OMAR...
Awesome! So happy for you.
Hey Omar, I must say that even your personal loves and googoogoogoos are the same as mine. And I haven't used it as much as you have, by far (like to Mars and back).
A customizable camera is good until you start forgetting how you customized everything... well, how I forget...
I wished the screen was like my 80D screen, but other than that, I love the little thing, and the 18-55mm is a really good lens.
Thanks for this vid and hope you enjoy your trip to You-taaah !
Grzt from Belgium
Great point....I've changed the buttons so many times....I sometimes have to rediscover a button. Great point.
Omar you always a good to give such wonderful vedios of Xt20. 👍👍👍👍👌👌👌👌
Omar, first off thanks for your videos! I have learned so much about this system from your work! Have you ever tried adapting old lenses to this camera? I have adapted several old takumar lenses and with focus peaking, it's amazing! If you'd like to test it out I'd be happy to send you a lens or two to test!
Nice one, Omar :) thx :) well, I think everybody has his own little pros and cons. I always struggle a bit with that card slot, too, but I got used to it. The lens release button ... yes, that's a bit weird. But what annoys me most is not an issue with the camera, but with the lenses or better with the front lens caps. Quite often I need several attempts to adapt the cap to the lens in a way, that it doesn't fall off. I never had that problem with my Nikon lenses at all and there has been a lot of grouching about that. I never lost a lens cap in many years I used my Nikons but already lost one in a year of Fuji. But over all I love this little camera and I really enjoy your videos. Keep going :)
Michael Flick Photography - yes, the front lens caps really suck! Never had issues with Canon ones, but the Fuji ones are far too easy to lose.
I replaced all my Fuji lens caps with Nikon caps and they work great. I used black electrical tape to cover up the "Nikon" letters.
Thinking of getting the Fuji T20 as a second camera. (I use a Nikon Df mainly - and I love it) The review was really informative and useful. Thanks!
Muy interesante! Después de saber las especificaciones hay que ver reviews como esta. Las demás solo hablan de lo mismo, una y otra vez, pero tú cuentas cosas distintas y se ve lo que nos vamos a encontrar cuando compremos la cámara. Gracias!
Front dial button switch between shutter speed (set to T) and exposure correction (set to C) which i useful if you need really fast change of these setting and don't have time to change it by top dials.
Also for those of us using an XC lens can be used as aperture control ( default is back dial but I set that for magnification using focus peaking ) my only gripe so far ( I haven't bought a grip yet- on the to-get list ) is the ball of my thumb keeps hitting the right d-pad button so just as I'm getting the focus peaking lined up the screen pops up with sync terminal - hopefully the grip will move my hand forward enough to stop this....
Nice....I like that. Great suggestion.
I was getting the same thing with WB button popping up. Changed that button fast!!
One thing I with Fuji would've done though, is put the T next to A. That little change would make T so much more handy (IMO anyway...).
I subscribed to you after you shot the memory card out🤣🤣
Great video, as always! Good information, and I’m still glad I went for the X-T2 - the X-T20 is just too small/light for me, the X-T2 feels that little bit chunkier and the weather sealing + twin SD card slots are a big bonus.
Great camerea....that xt2!
Great video Gonzo! I wanted one but then Nikon brought out the D7500 and its good enough to keep using all my Nikon kit. I still love its size and controls so sweet little camera.
That's great!
"You know I love the flippy flippy...". You crack me up. Great, great review. I bought mine about the same time you did and still Loving it. Your videos have made the experience even more enjoyable.
Tom Brim thanks so much Tom.
Thanks Omar, I actually watched most of your videos before I even got my X-T20! You have helped me immeasurably!
I too hate the EVF delay. To remedy, I am getting used to putting my thumb over the sensor as I bring it up to my face. The transfer from thumb to eye is usually a seamless transition for the EVF and its ready for shooting straight away.
BTW, I use my front dial as the SS and the exposure compensation, press it and it switches between them. I can't think of a better use for it. I use the button on the back wheel as my BBF and the af button is my focus check. The back wheel controls the aperture. Between the two wheels it's really fast to set exposure with my eye at the EVF! I, too mostly shoot in manual with focus peaking. I'm sure I got that from you too!
Thanks again!
How do you set up your XT-20 to do back dial aperture? Can you still use the lens ring to change the aperture also?
+Steve Flack I am using the cheapie XC lenses. They have no ap setting on the lens. Until I can afford some better lenses I am assuming you might be able so set it in auto on the lens? I hope so.
Mine comes in the post tomorrow :) Incredibly excited, seems to be a street photography machine.
i totally agree on your "hate" points.... same things bug me too
I love your videos Omar!
I got my X-T20 a little after you but I have not had as much fun with mine. Four weeks after I bought it it started to freeze up to the point that I had to take out the battery to reset it. I took it back to the store after realizing that it wasn't me that was making the camera freeze. Instead of getting me a new camera, they sent it back to Fuji for repairs...and after almost 9 weeks getting repaired I finally got it back...only to have the back display screen start to malfunction. I kept taking pictures like that for a while and then took it back to the store..and its back at Fuji (currently) getting fixed. I haven't had it a year. I love the camera and it's quality. Just so disappointed with Fuji.
I understand the ka-kunk-koo and the damn why all too well.
Glenda K. No!! That stinks that they gave you a lemon. Hopefully they'll take care of you. Keep us posted.
A likable-fellow. Great summary, I'm on the fence about an X-T20 and this helps, although still not sure what direction I will go with my choices. Might just stick with my xe-1!
Yay great video! Missing our New York shooting adventures in Times Square !
Rachel yay! Hi Rachel. Did you see you were in the year end video?
Another doozie! DG UK ♠️
Great stuff!
Another great video! I’m looking for a camera to make family and holiday videos so I’d love to see how you use the xt20 to film your family videos :)
Matt Chan good idea
Hi Omar, love them videos! Informative and entertaining!
One thing that probably worth putting jnto yhe ‘damn, why?’ category: wifi transfer: slow and cumbersome
True.
I have and love my XT-20, and mostly use it for video (Nikon for work as a stills photographer) and found your video as I was getting annoyed with exactly what you described at 10.30 - face detection not working in 4K. I thought I was missing something, thanks for saving my sanity as more hours in its menus! (Like when I knocked the 'auto' switch by the shutter speed dial and lost half the menus, then spent 3 solid evenings reading the manual, googling, YouTubing before I noticed this lever Id not noticed in the last 18 months...)
I can't stop laughing at him shooting out the memory card! That'll be me one day
Hey, Omar! I love your videos!! Question for you. If you were to buy the X-T20 all over again would you get the 18-55 kit lens again or would you get the XF 23mm f2.0? I’d love to know. Thank you very much in advance.
Tanks Omar, really nice vlogs . Got my x-t20 a week ago and i did not look one time in de book , see only your video's. Love your sense of humor . Keep on shooting.
Fan from Belgium.
Btw. can you make a video whit a lens adapter ?
c k glad to help
Hey, great video! First I've watched of yours, and man you're funny. Wanted to ask, how's the video stabilization on the X-T20? I am juggling dilemma between this and Olympus EM10 which has a great in-body stabilization. The videos you posted, seems to be a tad shaky as well, despite having lens stabilizer. Looking forward to your experience!
I love your videos. I JUST got a Fuji XT-20. I'm a Canon girl. Just experimenting with mirrorless. These videos are helpful....but I have a LOT to learn. So many ways to set it up. I just want to put it on auto and go!
Hi, Omar. Thanks for the insight on the XT-20. I'm thinking of upgrading, but I wanted to know if you use the Fujifilm camera remote app, and if it works well? I currently have a Samsung NX1000 (which has been discontinued, along with the remote app), and that was a major tool for me when I took self portraits when traveling.
Thanks in advance!
Which lenses do you like for video, like when you’re doing family stuff, or travel stuff? Is there any in body stabilization? Or stabilization in the lenses? Thank you.
Great, informative video and I like your presenting style. I have an X-T2 and need a second body - can't run to another X-T2 and wondering if an x-T20 would be a good idea? Also I need a flashgun - any suggestions?
Hai Omar is that the XF 18-55 lens? I wanna ask you what's your best setting in term for jpeg, the highlight shadow etc and your fav film simulation. Thankss
LOVE the red focus peaking. I could never go back
agreed
First of all Omar you are funny second thanks for making my decison easier; I got this camera!
Hi Omar,
I keep watching your XT-20 videos even after buying and XT-2 last month. They are informative and fun. The two cameras have much in common, and so I find your videos have been still helpful to program some settings on my XT-2.
I am now interested in photo editors and I don’t like the idea of a subscription to Lightroom or any other editor offered by subscription. What do you think are the best non-subscription editors for both Fujifilm X-Trans and Mac OS? Thanks!
And thanks also to anyone else who has good advice on that topic!
Affinity Photo
Love your videos one of the reasons why I bought the xt20 2 months ago.
Hates
1. The fn button. Too small for my fat fingers.
2. When using EVF my big nose sometimes moves the focus point.
3. Battery placement.
4. Front Dial
5. Useless app
Thanks for this video! I am for „your best family video camera“! I love my X-T20 too.
Hi Omar, so nice a video! Question: When you shoot video, does the record button work well?, cause in my XT10 trying to make it work is really a pain in the butt! Saludos desde Mexico!
What would you recommend for a beginner that wants to buy his first camera, the fuji x100s or the xt20?
Thx for the video. I'm new, so be gentle on me. What lens you suggest for general purpose use - like taking pics of my kids, or general scenery? I'm planning to buy body only and then one lens instead of the kit lens. thx.
I'm thinking of getting the xt20...but its soon to be 2020..should I still consider or is there another choice.? I do like the look of the xt20 with the buttons and all.
I have a nikon z6 as my only camera now. I have been thinking of getting a fuji as a secondary camera just for street photography. Going light. That’s the plan. Should i get this one? I also want to start vlogging at some point. Is x-t200 better suited than x-t20? Much confused.
Great video. Would you recommend to someone doing 90% video and 10% photo?
Hi Omar,, thanks for this video. my question is the grip
what's the brand you use it with XT20, I love the design and where can I buy it?
I'm hesitating between XT2 and XT20 after long time using Nikon D90. I may go to XT20
Thank you, Omar
I was also Canon shooter and was use to left button for lens unlock. Now on my X-T20 it is even more comfortable. Just grab your X-T20 from bottom by right hand having palm on display and middle finger on lens lock button, hold that button and by left hand you easily unplug lens and even easily visually check chip if necessary.
Thanks! Will try...
@omar:
I have been using an X-A1 for 4 years now and am finally ready to get a good upgrade (want a viewfinder so badly). Considering the price the X-t20 is perfect for me right now, there should be an X-T3/30 released later this year... would you wait and pay more for the new model, or save on the money and get this right now?
Hi Omar I started watching your videos because I am thinking to try Fuji and I think X20 is gonna be... I love your videos and the funny and natural way you’re doing them . I love the pictures hanger you have on your wall, could you please tell me where can I buy it? Thanks and congrats for your videos . :)
