- This is the first Casual Friday of Finish it February, when we work only on Unfinished Projects (UFOs), turning them into Finished Objects (FOs). I update you on what I have done so far, and offer tips and suggestions for various ways to reduce your UFO pile, whether you are participating in Finish It February, or not.

Hi Roxanne, so glad I found your channel! You've given my UFO's a new lease on life. I need to pull out all of my WIPs, (and I have a few ambitious crochet ones as well) and if I'm still feeling the love then I need to set goals and a game plan that will make finishing these projects so much easier. It really has helped me. I can get overwhelmed by a task like that, so breaking it down, and having a plan that isn't so strict that I will fail makes all the difference. It's all about finding what works for you. Good luck! :-)
It is so interesting to hear your explanation for process vs product knitters. I never thought that I was a process knitter, but when I first started knitting when I was 10 for the first 4 years I only had a few balls of yarn that I would knit into things then unknit them and knit them again. I just love the process of knitting so much that I dont have any UFOs. I just ask people what they want so I can have something to knit.
Thank you so much for sharing Roxanne. I literally cried watching your video. I work so similarly to you and sometimes people make me feel like I’m nuts because of my quirks. I was like “Hey, I do that!” at least ten times during your video. I too am often explaining that if I put it away I won’t remember why I put it away so it stays on the desk! We are not alone! :-D

Lot of mind games we play to push through projects. Enjoyed listening to your reasoning and it works for me. Now if I can just get my stash cleaned up to know what I really have........
You should hear the mind games I play with myself to rationalize knitting cuff down socks, rather than toe up! ;-)

Very helpful and quite interesting. Some how I always feel better when you talk about frogging or ufo's in your life. Every time I watch your podcast I know that I can do better even when I am disgusted at the unfinished pile. I know I will return to that pile whether to finish or frog and begin anew. Besides it frees up my project bags so I don't have to make another one!
The goal is always to feel better about your knitting, whether you finish OR frog. Find what gives you joy in your knitting and do *that*! Sometimes it means finishing something, sometimes it means letting it go, and other times it means starting something brand new! :-)
Love the cardigan you're wearing! I'm glad you rescued it from the back of the closet.
IT's funny how I loved it, then thought it was way to '80s/'90s to wear, and now I'm back to loving it. I'm glad I still have it!

I quit being stylish a long while ago. I remember we never went to San Francisco without getting all dolled up. Somehow at my age.... mid 70's I go for comfort . Besides living here in the Desert for 50 years the first thing to go were nylons!

And for knitwear, the last thing I want to knit is something super trendy. I want to get some USE out of that sweater!
Damn, Roxanne, you're BRILLIANT! I got SO many ideas on how to punch through the wall (you know, where you "hit the wall" and just cannot go one step further)! I especially love the "sub-projects" idea. Manageable bites. BRILLIANT.

I'm doing a beaded bind off to a shawl as I watch you. I'm a slow knitter. and tend to be monogamous. That said there are some lurking UFOs in my project bag. You've inspired me to deal with them on a logical and honest level.
I’m a first time viewer. I can relate with the ufo. Im glad I watched and I can look at it differently. I thought I was the only one with start-I-‘tis. I probably have 17 socks with no heels. I was determined to master the socks. I’m still learning.
I recently finished a MKAL and could not figure out why around the third clue (there were 5 clues total) I started losing steam. I realized that I never monogamously knit on a single project for more than 3 weeks. So it's great to hear that other people have the three week slump as well! I did push through and finish on time 👍🤣

Hi Roxanne! I love your videos, they're so helpful. I'm wondering if you have a favorite wool wash. I've tried a few samples of different wool washes, but I'd like to buy something full size and I'm not sure what to get.

Lol. I was just this morning trying to decide which one I liked better, and I was thinking maybe the one coming out of the knot. Decisions, decisions!
I learn to knit almost ten years ago but put it down to work on my education but health issues brought about a detour and now I am knitting again. However I am still a beginner knitter. I have knitted hats and scarves but no socks or mittens yet. I want to knit an interesting pattern but my skills are not in line with what I want to knit. Is there a semi interesting sock pattern for a first time sock knitter?
Hi Roxanne, I have 4 things I want to finish in February , a cardigan that I am not sure if I will finish or rip out. I tried to comment and join in on your Ravelry page and couldn't figure out how to comment and introduce myself, will go back to it and figure it out sometime this next week. Maybe we need to know how to recycle the yarn when we ripped out a UFO. If it is expensive, you may want to use it in another project and it is so curly the tension won't be right. Have you got any suggestions for this?

I loved this vid. I KNOW I'm a process knitter....love the chase but once I'm there..meh. I bet I have 30+ UFO's but I'm not stressing. I do the same as far as process/product. I have SO MANY SHAWLS? Ive actually been giving them away 😁😁❤️

That's how I was with socks at the end of 2016. I have SO MANY SOCKS, that I stopped keeping any of the newly finished pairs.
You may have said this, but when you frog a UFO, do you wash the yarn, or do you knit with it kinky? I’m about to frog a big sweater and I’m not sure how to go about it.
People do it either way. If you're not sure, then wind it into hanks, knit up a swatch, and then see whether washing and blocking the swatch after knitting it kinky gives you a result you're satisfied with. Make sure you use water that's quite warm when you soak it before blocking. If you're not happy with the process of knitting with kinky yarn, then soak the hanks in warm water, and then hang them to dry, and then knit from them. It's one of those knitter's preference things. Sometimes the knitting just looks so ugly while you're knitting with the kinky yarn, that you aren't happy with the process of knitting, even though the result later one might be just fine. I have a project where I had to frog the sweater fronts, which had been blocked, and then reknit them in a contrast color. I used the original (still kinky) yarn to knit the sleeves, and after the first soak in cool water, the fabric wasn't smooth, so I thought I'd made a big mistake. A second soak in much warmer water helped the yarn to relax.
