As a person with a history degree, love your passion and addition of historical information.

I got so involved with your story at the end that I forgot to alternate between short row lengths. It was supposed to be 18 one way 20 the other. I just kept doing the 18. When your video was done, I looked down and thought, "What the heck?" I had to tink back 4 rows. Not a big deal, but very funny. :)

Wow! I love how you come back full circle and tie it all together. Always has me smiling at the end.

You are a treasure trove of information! I absolutely love hearing you talk and am fascinated with all that you share. It amazes me your knowledge in so many arenas. I love to constantly learn especially in the subjects you tend to gravitate to. Please keep it coming...you have a gift in speaking and storytelling!

Well, you had me Googling the entry requirements for the NYS fair. This has been a secret ambition of mine. I love the movie State Fair (1940s version).

They, (the Governor) cancelled/discontinued the Michigan State Fair because of budget cuts. It was, at the time, the longest running contiguous fair in the country. I was so sad and it was so wrong to do that, IMO. My family farm had a history going to the fair with our dairy cattle and my dad had many blue ribbons. It was great family fun.

I grew up in Michigan, and it made me sad to see that happen. I just checked the other day to see if it was still out of commission, and saw that it was. It really is too bad. :-(

Hi! New subscriber here. I am really enjoying your "casual Friday" episodes (haven't watched the others YET). Late last Summer, my boyfriend and I visited his hometown's county fair and I really enjoyed looking at all the art and craft exhibitions. It had been many years since I went to a fair, so I sort of forgot that people still judge on this stuff at fairs, aside from farm animals. It got my wheels turning looking at the knitted items, that I could submit some of my own work. Of course, his hometown is much smaller than the county I currently live in, so I got the feeling that the competition wasn't too fierce. It wasn't until I watched your episode that I looked up both my state and county fairs' info on exhibiting. It looks like my county fair (Dane) only does youth exhibitions (sigh), but my state fair (Wisconsin) has a decent amount of divisions for knitting and other needlework. Something I will consider for the future, for sure! Thanks for a great podcast.

    I love that striped cardigan!
Note on Oliver Kelly; his town, Carrabelle, FL , is still around. My family lives in Tallahassee, and we used to drive through it all the time when I was a kid.

I thought it was interesting that he was a bit of a land speculator, although unlike many speculators, he actually lived in, and invested his time and energy into these locations to make something of them.

My friend who lives in Yorkshire is always wanting to come to the Minnesota State Fair, because I talk about it every year. She has talked about a similar event up in her area...The Great Yorkshire Show. It's too bad they don't have something like that down where you are!

Your stripe sweater is lovely and you likely wear jewel tones very well. Should look great on you.

Do you have a written pattern for the baby blanket that you showed, or know of something similar. I live it.

The two color garter stitch stripes are from Sequence Knitting. I just put together sections with different stitch counts. There is no written pattern for the blanket

Sure, but you'd need to do that in my Ravelry group, where others can learn from the question and answers, as well as offer up their insights, as well. There's a link to my Ravelry group in the description of every video.
