You cannot imagine how hard I laughed at 6:49. The way he abruptly starts slamming his head on the floor repeatedly is simply hilarious. And I feel like the animators also had a good laugh making this one!
Thanks for uploading this! Compared to the Hanna Barbera version, the plot is a little bit better, but the animation is visibly cheaper. It's also missing the memorable music and voice performances of Don Messick and company. Even if it was spoken in English or had English subtitles, I still prefer the 1980s version. Still a curiosity, though; I'm happy I watched this. :-)
gargamel did become a smurf in the hanna-barbera version, he kept his signature-nose as a smurf, also the scene with azrael trying to chase garga-smurf was incorporated there too .
The "cape and mask" Smurf (which I have the figurine of, too!) is also from the comic story, "The Masked Smurfer." I laughed when I saw it! The Hanna-Barbera version of this story has nothing to do with the original. (A fat witch became the fake Smurf instead of Gargamel.) It would be great if this and the other 1965 B&W shorts were available on DVD (along with the compilation movie, THE ADVENTURES OF THE SMURFS)!
Masked Smurfs also appeared as rebels in "King Smurf", both comics and cartoon versions. And I agree with you these first Smurf cartoons should be launched in DVD. :)
@oldcbsfantwo so.. the episode is Le Faux Schtroumpf and this animation reminds me of Flash animated IDs and some of logo to creature transformation and water tower robot bumpers from Kids' WB! and this era is called "Alter Egos" era from 2005 to 2007 but was not created yet until Fall 2005.
Didn't they use a similar plot in the 80s cartoon? I remember a fake smurf with a fake tail.. and a bridge sabotage... I had the Smurf in the cape and mask from the thought bubble... and I noticed that the animation was like the old school Popeye with some stop motion sets mixed with animation
@oldcbsfantwo so.... animation was The Smurfs but sometimes it's French that was called.. Le Faux Schtroumpf and this show called Over The Garden Wall that was not created yet until 2013-14
cool is this the original smurfs cartoon before smurfs & the magic flute from 1976 in belgium & in the u.s,a 1983 and berore the hanna-barbera tv series in 1981? i love it its a rare classic priceless treasure for smurf fans like mi i hope the dvd of this come out soon for my smurfs cartoon dvd collection good work wwwbarrufetcat

Wow! Hanna Barbera did a remake on The Fake Smurf a few years later replacing Gargamel with Hogatha the snorting witch as the fake smurf.
Why do gamaile use a drone find smrufs
+Hilee Whitaker. OH! the animation reminds me of MGM's Tom and Jerry was created by Gene Deitch after Chuck Jones era in 1960's!
ok
Wow, this takes me back to those Gene Deitch Tom and Jerry shorts. Great find, I wish they'd bring it stateside.

Aside from Hogatha replacing Gargamel, the Hanna-Barbera version of this story was pretty faithful
Oh my Smurf...I never knew the Smurfs had a cartoon from that year
I want to see this in it’s entirety

It sounds like a LOST FILM REEL of BATIM called, "The Fake Demon" featuring The Butcher Gang. And I hear Cuphead music.
merci !!
Upload complete movie please!! 5 chapters. Thanks!!

i watched that episode of the smurfs when i was 1 years old or 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 or 6
I wonder if you can find other videos like this. I'm trying to find samples from Les Aventures Des Schtroumpfs from 1965.
Reminds me of that Parody on Robot Chicken
Wow los diseños se parecen muchisimo a los pitufos de los 80
@BuddyBoy600alt so.... the 1960's cartoon called Le Faux Schtroumpf and it was Disney's Marsupilami is not created yet until 1993.
OK, OK! We get it.

This version, along with the Hanna-Barbera version were adapted from the comic story of the same name.
I think there was a good quality of this once but I think it got deleted or something
@oldcbsfantwo Oh my Gosh! well... this animation is Smurfs and the show is Gravity Falls was not created yet until June 2012.

Yeah, it does feel like Gene Deitch T&J! :)
I prefer this (and THE SMURFS AND THE MAGIC FLUTE) to the Hanna-Barbera series!
As do I.
I'd love to see this with English subtitles!
