I love how the Barbie Movie Mermaid dolls are upstaged by the Fairytopia Mermaid dolls Mattel made for those mermaid girls who showed up for 1 minute in the original movie. Iconic.
i had the island princess and mariposa dolls as a kid. they both shed glitter like crazy and i distinctly remembered mariposa smelling like burnt plastic all the time. memories...
Every time I see the dolls for the early movies, I'm just floored that there was a time when regular playline Barbie dolls had such high quality. And I was alive back then and had some of them!
My one core memory from when I was three was my dad playing dolls with me but he decided my barbie was a super hero and sent her flying. Her head popped off and the neck peg broke. 💀💀💀 I had a nightmare that night of naked headless barbie dolls coming for me. This is to say I feel you and I see you lmao
I also think Erica's doll was better than Annelise's, though that may go to my personal bias for always preferring dolls with dark hair. My parents used to buy me dolls with similar features to me, and I have mid-to-dark brown hair and pale skin. Though I also agree her outfit is more appealing as well; imo you can never go wrong with light pink and blue!
I’ve been working on repainting and rerooting a thrifted doll and she already looks SO much better. I don’t understand how the translation from doll to movie can have such a different colour palette? The offical doll looks sickly.
It’s sad how easily you can see the quality of the dolls degrade as you go down the tier list😭 I was so fortunate that my parents got me Alexa, Mariposa, Odette, Rapunzel and Viveca to name a few, and they’re still so gorgeous after all these years! If only Barbie could be as detailed and high quality as it was back then, maybe even the younger gens would be more interested and enjoy them more- but that’s just my 2 cents lol
Omg the first mariposa doll brought back memories! Justice for Mariposa, she was SUCH a stunning doll in person Her dress was so detailed and her wings were so gorgeous and elegant,,, I loved her sm. I am a little sad I missed the Nutcracker and Swan Lake era of dolls, but Mariposa??? She was cookie dough bites. My queen.
IIRC couldn't her wings fold as well to make a different pattern?? That might be a different fairy doll but I swear it was her, I adored whatever doll was able to do that
@@cubriffic172yes I believe her wings could do that. As a child I had a friend with the first Mariposa doll and I was always jealous. I vaguely remember the folding feature though we never used it. Of course I was lucky to have the first two Fairytopia Elina dolls, so we were sort of even.
The side dolls for Fairytopia were always better than the main character for me. Same with Mermaidia. I loved all the fairies and mermaids that came out around that time; they're so beautiful imo. I had Dandelion (fairy) and Nori (mermaid) as a kid and I love them a lot.
The pink, purple, and blue glitter bodice fairies from the first Fairytopia line are still some of my all time favorite Barbie fairy dolls. I never got around to buying Elina 😅
As a former little girl, I can say with confidence that I loved mermaid dolls with plastic tails. The stupid two in one fabric tails made me so mad, what's the point of having a mermaid doll if her tail can't go in water? Also I absolutely loved the school uniform one for Princesses Charm school. It was my favorite movie and I can't believe i missed that doll
I feel like a good inbetween, though I don’t believe Mattel would do it, would be to have a sort of rubbery tail akin to the bend and snappable barbie legs they used to have. It’d allow the toy to be more water accessible and it still give the toy some articulation. Just a thought lol!
OG Mariposa deserves to be in the top tier from the face card alone, she's so beautiful/unique compared to so many of the same-y open-smile Barbies that were coming out at the time. i thrifted one last month with no clothes/wings and a broken neck just so i can rebody her head onto a MTM body, but i still wanna get a NIB one eventually bc she's just ✨that girl✨
The most controversial part about this to me is definitely the theatre snacks. I’ve never once seen Swedish fish sold at a movie theater in my area and those are not movie snacks to me 😂
Erica’s doll is 100% better than Anneliese’s, if not aesthetically then at least in terms of quality. I’m still really annoyed that Anneliese’s main skirt layer is slightly too short because Erica has a full-length skirt and the discrepancy looks odd when they’re displayed together (plus how ironic is it that the working class character gets the long full skirt instead of the princess??). Also Anneliese is meant to have a ruffle at the hem of her bodice like Erica but that was scrapped from her design. These budget cuts are just a lot more apparent in Anneliese which makes me appreciate Erica a lot more
I've always thought the more basic Mariposa Barbie with smaller molded butterfly wings is much prettier than the deluxe movie finale version featured here. She's the one I bought for my collection back in 2008, and I've never regretted not getting the 'fancier' one. those giant fabric wings look like they'd be such a pain to display!
Though I loved Fairytopia as a kid, I also didn't like the Elina face molds that much. I think my favorites are Annika, Odette, Ro and Mariposa (I love the huge, glittery wings, they're even cooler when they pop up, and I also like her face).
I do like the new direction of Barbie in the way of like you can be anything, do anything, and having dolls to represent all kinds of people. As much as I love that message and all that, I just miss those movie princesses, fairy, ballerina, mermaid, etc. dolls. I grew up watching a lot of the older Barbie movies and DREAMED of having the dolls, especially the princess ones haha. They were all so beautiful and detailed, and I just really wish they made more like those again. My biggest flex in life is that I found an Elina (from Fairytopia) doll in GREAT condition, at an op shop. bought her for SO CHEAP- like a couple of dollars, and went home and fixed up her hair and she's one of my favourite dolls I own because I used to watch that movie all the time and want the doll haha.
The only one of these dolls I ever owned was the magic of Pegasus one. She was a gift from my grandmother from when me and my sister were probably around 4 or 5. We weren’t allowed to bring her home though because my mom thought barbie would rot our brains or whatever so she stayed at my grandparent’s house. She’s long gone but, by some miracle, I still have the wand!
The Star Light adventure line is particularly egregious because this is a genuinely interesting movie and the designs of it were actually cute but ALL the girls were let down with the sculpted outfits & even Sall E herself with not getting a doll of her cornrow hair for the formal look. These dolls don't have to be bad but it's clear for a long time now that the only thing execs seem to care about is the bottom line and making these as cheaply as they can get away with. SMH!
The princess and the popstar dolls' hair was the bane of 8-year-old me's existence. They never looked quite right when flipped, I loved my Tori doll but never flipped her hair to pink, because I couldn't bother with trying to make it look good. The outfit was fun, I adored her boots so much
Two videos for the barbie movies sounds great! Cuts out a lot of "it's fine" as you said. I'd defnintely watch them! Barbie Swan Lake was one of my favourite barbie movies as a child, and barbie's dress for that movie was and still is absolutely my favourite among them. I'd love to own one, but the prices aren't to scoff at for me :,)
I love Princess and the pauper. Totally fine for it to not be EVERYONE'S favorite, what fun would be that? I also love Erika a little more, she give perfect cottagecore fantasie, she's beatifull, she is the vibe.
even as kids who grew up on the barbie dvd movies, my sister and i never really cared for the transforming dolls lol not to mention they were way too expensive around here so we always went for the articulated fashionistas/litd girls lol
In a Perfect Christmas is such an underrated Barbie movie doll. Though, I can just PICTURE the glitter coming off like the Bratz movie dresses ugh. YES I loveeee In the Pink Shoes!
Annalise all the way for me, the tone of pink is perfect and I love it with the blonde hair and gold accessories. I love Erica's as well, but I think I don't like the brown hair as much, I wish there was an "Erica prenteding to be Annalise" doll.
Certainly a walk down memory lane! You can see the quality decline in the dolls as well. I like the first Elina as she was given the Mackie face mold. Her little side ponytails aren't so bad in person. Finding the 'budget version' of the dolls is fun. Hearing you mention dance costumes made me smile. They are definitely a category of their own. ❤
I own almost all of these! My Odette doll is a budget one (she was my first movie doll), and my personal favorites are Erika and Lumina (because they're my favorite characters), Rosella for her amazing dress and Catania, who wasn't featured in this video.
Oh my god the NOSTALGIA I had SO MANY of these dolls. Tbh while Rapunzel was my favorite of the movies as a kid, I do remember thinking as a kid that I thought her dress looked a LOT better in the movie than all the doll. I also never cared for her “growing hair” gimmick tbh. I also think Erika looks prettier than Annalise.
I had the Corinne doll as a kid. I remember she had a pink streak on her hair, but I wanted her her to be pinker, so I grabbed some pink acrylic paint and used it as hair dye on her. Needless to say, it made her hair super crusty lol. But after a few days, I tried washing off the paint, and to my surprise, the paint actually did stain the doll's hair. So I got her hair to have more pink streaks after all LMAO.
That Magic of the Rainbow outfit! 😯 I have an intense hatred of molded on tops but this is exceptional. This is 110% a Pride outfit and I am living for it! Also that first Mariposa doll made the kid in me gasp with wonder! She's so prettyyyyyy! 💕
I completely forgot my younger sister had those princess and the pauper dolls until I saw the cat figures that came with them, I remember playing with the animal figures that came with her dolls while she played with the actual dolls lol
The only Barbie movie doll i had growing up was the Nutcracker one, and honestly, what a doll. She was super fun to pose since she was a lot more articulated than most dolls at the time, and spinning her on her special stand never got old. Seeing the later entries on the list honestly made me kinda sad because I wish kids could get Barbies as cool as the ones I grew up with.
Yessss I ate this video like it was candy. Will never get tired of ranking dolls like this. I'd love to see your ranking of the movies! I think top/bottom 10 is a good time-saver, but also I'd be perfectly happy with a tier list vid where you don't have to say a lot about a movie and just rank it if it's unremarkable, you know? I've seen doll ranking videos like that and it works. If something really is just basic and boring, putting it in its tier is enough to tell us your thoughts. And it would be cool to see all your opinions! Do whatever makes you happy :)
I have Nutcracker and Rapunzel Barbies both sitting here beside me! I recently went through my old doll tub and ahhh, I don't know why I caved to peer pressure at school and hid them in my closet... horrible choice. They're front and centre now.
For me the two lines overall that i love best are Swan Lake and Three Musketeers. The Swan Lake line has the most beautiful dolls (and is the best Barbie movie imho) literally my only complaint is we should have also had an Odile doll, and the Three Musketeers had so much fun with the concept, with the transforming being fun and in theme but also not hindering the function of the dolls. And the budget dolls were also really cute. The most beautiful doll overall tho was Claras from the Nutcracker. Literally rivals the quality of the adult collector Barbie dolls Add on: also! I did have the Rapunzel doll and shes very pretty and i do have that nostalgia for her but! But the toy from that line i have the most nostalgia for was the plush Penelope the Dragon doll. I was so obsessed with Penelope Edit 2: i own both Anneliese and Erika and i love both and its so funny bc i always thought i had the controversial opinion that Anneliese is the prettier doll just barely. Also i highly recommend giving Magic of Pegasus another watch because its delightful. I did a rewatch of all the classic Barbie movied semi recently and it ended up ranking as my second favorite
Hey love the video ranking of the Barbie movie dolls I could not quit laughing when at the end there were so many raisins I do miss Mattel 90's era of dolls where quality reigned supreme Tnx for a great video😊
barbie in a fairy secret was a christmas gift and it was so fun playing w her. she is rectangular bc the skirt is inside her so she’s kinda funny. also love the small fairy that’s in the end of the cord so love her!!this video was so great, i’ll watch it w my mom ☺️☺️☺️
I remember playing with a swan lake Barbie at a restaurant and being so in love with her design I begged my mom to buy it on eBay:,) (I still have her but I cannot find her wings for the life of me)
I will say that pink purple and orange don't always go good together. However, when it comes to the Mermaid Fantasy line from 2002, they made that color palette endlessly stunning 🧡💗💜
I agree about Raisinets. What the hell are people thinking, who eats those? But my favorite snack is soft pretzels with cheese sauce. Such a big guilty pleasure. Then popcorn without butter. Then Sour Patch Kids. Anyway, just my tastes.
Yeah I pretty much agree with your ranking. It's so sad how downhill the quality of the dolls went. The earlier movies were cute then those went south as well. Overall great video
I am very interested to hear your highs and lows from the Barbie movie list. I'd also be interested in hearing your Top 5 Barbie movies that you have unpopular opinions on or the Top 5 Barbie movies you don't care about from the middle of the list too lol ❤
Whilst we were talking about how “they don’t make them like they used to”…. I was reminded of all the Barbie dolls I had as a child (I was born in ‘79) and how many of them had a transformation gimmick. The one I remember most clearly is one I think was called “Secrets Barbie” and her dress doubled as an evening bag for the child. … What other transforming dolls do people remember fondly?
I love that you always use foods for your ranking tiers! I have very different taste buds than you do and it just adds so much silliness to it when your top tier food is my bottom tier food even though I'm agreeing with you on the raking of the doll themselves haha
15:25 I loved this doll as a kid XD I always loved glitter and the fact that the wings gets bigger wowed me as a child. Also I though the outfit and the flower crown were pretty. I loved her shoes too
As we moved from the early movies to the most recent, it was obvious that the quality suffered. That reflects the downward trajectory of most all Barbies from the 90's to today. Less quality, less thought, less value.
im soooo biased for this but I love the fairytopia mermadia doll. Yeah the big wings are mostly what she has going for her, but thats definitely the point for me! Plus I really love what they did conceptually with the jellyfish-like skirt, and the mermaid-to-fairy transformation idea is executed pretty well imo. granted im not like a big doll person so I'm probably missing out on some sort of quality aspect, but what can I say? its the only time elina had a design i liked lolllll
I had like the yennifere one and broke it two months. And the Mariposa one which would work as a play button on the TV where i would be a gremlin annoying my parents every time i used her. Actual golden memories
The one i ALWAYS wanted and loved was the swan lake one holy shit, like i LOVED the movie. I loved her design, but i was too old to get the movie doll and all the fleamarket ones were not as great... but i wanted her so much...😢
As someone who has no interest in dolls, Barbie movies or even Barbara herself and only here for your fabulous sass and content, this is the first video where we have been sooooo different 😂😂😂 in the 5 second glimpse of these before you rank them, all my favourites were rasinets 😂 that secret door one was just fabulous, she was so different and quirky I adore her. Can’t wait for the next video, love you 🥰
Kind of obsessed with the Tumbelina doll. This was a great idea for a video and a good watch! Love the idea of doing a fave vid and a least fave vid for the movies!
Honestly love the Great Puppy Adventure look too. The jeans and the top. And I love the Starlight Adventure, even though it does look cheap. Definitely with you on the final mermaids!!
Thank you so much for this video, I'm very nervous right now because my state is having trouble with lots of rain, which invades houses, make people leave im the middle of the water.... or die/disappear... I'm okay but without water, just the mineral one, and energy just came back, before neither the 4G was working, thank god now I can at least watch videos... to scape bit
I remember that my sister was soooo excited to buy the barbie doll from the movie secret door because she really love the gown from the movie but she was so surprised when she saw an underwhelming doll that's displayed in the store. She didn't want to buy it anymore lmao
31:51 tbf Angel Kent did design this doll. If I’m correct he design most of the modern Mermaid dolls. Angel Kent is responsible for the Odile head sculpt.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for doing this ranking! I loved it and it fills me with so much joy and nostalgia, you won't believe it 💗 I sadly wasn't allowed to own any of them as a child, even though I remember begging for the Odette doll many times (fellow 1996 baby here! Also, proud member of team Erika and a fellow Tika hater). She is still my absolute favorite doll of all time and so it's no surprise she was the first one I bought second hand as an adult. Nowadays I'm the proud owner of all of the old movie dolls and every time I walk past them in their glass display case, I am in awe and continue to stare for a little while, adoring them ❤️
i knew itd be raisenettes 😆 theyre my favorite, not too sweet 💖 my favorite doll i remember having was from fairytopia she was gorgeous, and i remember getting the Rapunzel talking dragon doll for xmas and she pissed me off lol
i dont remember the movies at all except for the cats meow song (absolute banger, whats wrong wolfie are ya sick?) and the floor of 12 dancing princesses and no other parts of those movies or what theyre about
Such a great video so far! Do you think you could make a video about the monster high stock market? I know you already made several videos on the Bratz stock market, but collectors apart of the monster high community insanely overprice their items by hundreds of dollars for absolutely no reason, especially the experienced collecters who do this all the time and end up manipulating new collectors. It's incredibly unfair to the new collectors.
I actually kind of like Starlight Adventure Barbie, the Spy Barbie, and the Super Hero Barbie. I know they suffer from being very cheap and plasticy but I like that they have good designs. I really like the see through dress for starlight adventure. It's different from the others. I'm of the opinion that a doll can be super cheap. But if it has a strong design, that won't matter. For Example, Magic Mixings Pixlings have molded on tops and cheap paper skirts. They do everything Barbie Color Reveal does. But they have much stronger designs so people have a higher opinion of them.
Rosella from Island Princess could've been right up there with Odette for me. The intense blue, the purply pink accents and lipstick. The peacock tail. Iconic design. Inspired. Unfortunately for her, she was designed for my least favorite Barbie era. She had the squat "hobbit" body and the awful 2007 face sculpt that is so ugly it doesn't have a name. Seriously, I can take Millie over that one any day. Had she been on the standard belly button body and used the Generation Girl face, she would have been rivaling the Golden Trio. ( Clara, Odette and Rapunzel )
I don’t understand why Barbie movie dolls stopped having articulation. That would put the doll in raisinettes no matter how much I liked the outfit. The exception MIGHT be mermaid dolls with plastic tails. Then I might forgive a lack of articulation. Those maybe could go into Swedish fish. Movie dolls should get versions that can be played with. 5 points of articulation aren’t great for playing. If a doll can’t sit in a chair, well that’s an instant problem.
The fact we almost had all mermaid dolls in the Swedish Fish tier.
I love how the Barbie Movie Mermaid dolls are upstaged by the Fairytopia Mermaid dolls Mattel made for those mermaid girls who showed up for 1 minute in the original movie. Iconic.
I guess the tier name was emblematic 😂

Literally rivals the quality of the adult collector Barbie dolls
Add on: also! I did have the Rapunzel doll and shes very pretty and i do have that nostalgia for her but! But the toy from that line i have the most nostalgia for was the plush Penelope the Dragon doll. I was so obsessed with Penelope
Edit 2: i own both Anneliese and Erika and i love both and its so funny bc i always thought i had the controversial opinion that Anneliese is the prettier doll just barely. Also i highly recommend giving Magic of Pegasus another watch because its delightful. I did a rewatch of all the classic Barbie movied semi recently and it ended up ranking as my second favorite
Please do either Bratz, Mh, or Ever after high doll rankings :)❤
the barbie elina dolls using different face moles reminds me of what bratz done with the pixies💔💔
I'd also be interested in hearing your Top 5 Barbie movies that you have unpopular opinions on or the Top 5 Barbie movies you don't care about from the middle of the list too lol ❤
when you got to mariposa the Ex-fucking-cuse me I let out-
I was gagged with the Tiffany New York quote 😂
Whilst we were talking about how “they don’t make them like they used to”…. I was reminded of all the Barbie dolls I had as a child (I was born in ‘79) and how many of them had a transformation gimmick. The one I remember most clearly is one I think was called “Secrets Barbie” and her dress doubled as an evening bag for the child. … What other transforming dolls do people remember fondly?
You are so correct about the Barbie in a perfect christmas dress
I love that you always use foods for your ranking tiers! I have very different taste buds than you do and it just adds so much silliness to it when your top tier food is my bottom tier food even though I'm agreeing with you on the raking of the doll themselves haha
15:25 I loved this doll as a kid XD I always loved glitter and the fact that the wings gets bigger wowed me as a child. Also I though the outfit and the flower crown were pretty. I loved her shoes too
took the words right out of my mouth with the barbie swan lake doll
Princess and The Pauper is my all time favorite one! ❤
Erika was always my favorite cause she has the same hair color as me, so I loved her a lot as a kid.
Plus I really love what they did conceptually with the jellyfish-like skirt, and the mermaid-to-fairy transformation idea is executed pretty well imo. granted im not like a big doll person so I'm probably missing out on some sort of quality aspect, but what can I say? its the only time elina had a design i liked lolllll
the one upside to the barbie and the spy squad doll is that the molded parts look like they would be fun to chew on
I had like the yennifere one and broke it two months.
And the Mariposa one which would work as a play button on the TV where i would be a gremlin annoying my parents every time i used her. Actual golden memories
The one i ALWAYS wanted and loved was the swan lake one holy shit, like i LOVED the movie. I loved her design, but i was too old to get the movie doll and all the fleamarket ones were not as great... but i wanted her so much...😢
The only thing that would make a welcome addition to my collection is the insane looking cat from Christmas Carol.
Literally pulled over on the highway at 4am after a deer ran out and I’m watching this to calm down while I wait for my ride 😅
Corine is always perfection, but her girls friends especially Renee still outshined her, loved the entire line.
The only opinion here I have a problem with is that Swedish Fish are bad lol
The barbie videos always slap i'm so ready to watch this
Erica did eat Annaleise tf up, never had any Barbie’s but I did have a Chelsea in a purple dress from the three musketeers and her snatched horse
Dang girl, I did not expect this many hot takes in one video! So fun to see tho!
Princess Charm School being your favourite is so slay. Same!🩷
Oh I’m sat for the Barbie movie doll ranking!
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for doing this ranking! I loved it and it fills me with so much joy and nostalgia, you won't believe it 💗
I sadly wasn't allowed to own any of them as a child, even though I remember begging for the Odette doll many times (fellow 1996 baby here! Also, proud member of team Erika and a fellow Tika hater). She is still my absolute favorite doll of all time and so it's no surprise she was the first one I bought second hand as an adult.
Nowadays I'm the proud owner of all of the old movie dolls and every time I walk past them in their glass display case, I am in awe and continue to stare for a little while, adoring them ❤️
I would literally kill to own the Barbie princess charm school dolls!
i knew itd be raisenettes 😆 theyre my favorite, not too sweet 💖
my favorite doll i remember having was from fairytopia she was gorgeous, and i remember getting the Rapunzel talking dragon doll for xmas and she pissed me off lol
i dont remember the movies at all except for the cats meow song (absolute banger, whats wrong wolfie are ya sick?) and the floor of 12 dancing princesses and no other parts of those movies or what theyre about
ORANGE AND PINK HATER?? OMG LESBOPHOBIA!!! /j
My classmate in elementary had the Odette doll. Oh my, I envied her SO. MUCH 😄
Such a great video so far!
I would love to see a video where you rank the Barbie movies. I’ve been watching them with my friend and some of them are insane
i remember having the princess and pauper dolls and they were my absolute fave dolls ever. ur right they really dont make dolls like that any more
ur fashion sense is so good. every top i see u in is too cute!!
