During the fall of 1944, the 16th Regiment of the 1st Infantry Division was experiencing heavy combat in the Hürtgen Forest located on the German border. During this bloody battle, many young men lost their lives from both sides. Charles Norman Shay, medic in F company of the 16th Infantry Regiment was greatly impacted by the death of one of his comrades, and it would haunt him for the rest of his life. Pvt Munfard Kelley, a young married man from Alabama was wounded in the chest by tree burst on November 19, 1944. Charles Shay heard a cry for a medic and rushed to the aid of his friend. Unfortunately, Pvt Munfard Kelley was wounded too severely and Charles was unable to save his life, something that he still struggles with to this day.

I have visited the Hürtgenwald many times, it is an hour drive from where I live. The last scene is filmed on the US cemetery in Margraten.

It seems to help the older veterans to walk the old battlefields in peace. I hired a contractor who had been involved in El Salvador fighting and he said he went back to make peace.

Absolutely, we have been in touch with many WW2 veterans who came back in Normandy many years after the war. As you said, they wanted to make sure that future generation would not have to go through what they have to endure during the war.

@@florentplana9560 We didn't talk as much to him, as we did his son. I have a great pic of him with the beach he landed on behind him in the distance. I've learned far more about him since we met him.

Mr. Shay was in the worst battles in WW2.
He couldn't get his friend out of the foxhole.
He knew the friend would be dead in minutes.
    His nerves were shattered.
He brought The Ceremony to the far away Land to bring them back Home.
They do not walk that place wandering outside their bodies anymore.
Mr. Shay came to bring them Home.
Because though Mr. Shay was a medic among them during that terrifying time of world war, he is also a Spirit Man in the ways of his Ancestral American Native Root.
