  • Polyphenols. These are plant chemicals which help promote the growth of beneficial bacteria. We can add polyphenols into a diet, by eating more olive oil, berries, chocolate, and cacao, nibs, spices, such as cloves. Or soya beans. In general, the more colourful your food, the more polyphenols they’ll likely to contain.
    Polyphenols are present in plants and support the plants natural defence mechanisms. For example, they help to deter predators, such as insects from consuming the plants.
    In our foods we can SEE and TASTE polyphenols! Some polyphenols contain phenolic compounds that can taste bitter such as the brassica vegetables ( eg Brussels sprouts and radishes), but also the compounds in extra virgin oil which give the oil its pungent taste. These bitter compounds are actually good for us and our microbiome. They are also incredible antioxidants.
    Green tea or matcha is also a great sources of polyphenols as is dark chocolate, cacao, coffee beans and black tea.
    Some polyphenols make up the colours in our foods. The brighter the colour of the plant, the more polyphenols they are likely to contain. Think blueberries, blackberries, seeds and nuts, spices, beans and lentils and even red wine!
    So adding colourful and punchy foods can also support your gut microbiome.

    Polyphenols are extremely toxic. Nutritionists have gotten everything extremely wrong. I have a history of autoimmune disease and the only thing that helped is eliminating the so called "benefial" things recommended by most nutritionists like fiber, polyphenols etc. If you want to heal your gut eat meat and eliminate high fiber foods. I like potatoes, very ripe fruits as far as plants and meat, dairy and eggs.

      Whats so funny if that you are even saying this in your bio. Polyphenols are the plants defense mechanisms. Why would their defense mechanisms be good for us. They dont want us to eat that. Thats what gives them that taste. Bitter is the worst taste from all the tastes and our body shows us that its not healthy for us but somehow because scientists say it its healthy. Taste is literally an indicator for if something is good or not.
