Thanks so much for this video! I just got the same guitar (different color) and was wanting to put some locking tuners on it. You pretty much answered all of the questions I had so this was immensely helpful. Rock on!
Isn't the UNP on the bass side (E A D strings) wrong mounted? It should be IMHO mounted up side down to better hold the runners against the turning - similar like on the treble side (G B e strings).
So I put these on an Ibanez acoustic and cannot use the washers on the central two machines because the UMP prevents the reach nut from making contact with the threads on the machine. Anyone else experience this?
That's what's so cool about the UMP (universal mounting plate) - you don't have to have screws. The plate holds the tuners in place and the hex nut on the front tightens everything down. You don't ever have to drill or make any alterations to your headstock.
Yes - I did that for 35 years, but this stuff is better. You're right though, the good ole pencil lead is functional for many minor sticking situations.
I know this is a very old post. My answer is for the benefit of those reading this currently as of 11/20/2019. I have the same guitar, an Epiphone Les Paul Studio that I got in 2019. I believe the guitar hasn't changed since 2017, and when I asked this question on Amazon, every reply I got was a resounding yes. Based on the way these install from watching the video, I suspect they would fit just about any Les Paul or 3+3 headstock style guitar. I cannot say how they would work on a Fender type guitar because I only have two Les Paul's and never owned a Fender.
@@Colhogan06 a friend of mine that works at Sam Ash music put the in line locking tuners from hip shot on his guitar a tele and I have to say they are the smoothest tuners I have ever felt in 43 years of playing guitar
NOTHING wrong with running 9's on a Gibson scale. Used 10's for years, hated every minute. Playing guitar should be fun. Not a work-out. That's what the gym is for.
Looks like the string posts are just barely tall enough to fit the string through. I was going to get these so I could use a string butler and retain the black keys.. but it looks like that won't work. Thoughts?
A wound string removes all stability improvements from locking tuners. Having wound strings allow for movement when using a tremolo system or when strings stretch. Locking the string without winding takes all of that possibly away.
Thanks for the video, i have the exact Ibanez and have been wanting to put locking tuners on and this solves all the questions.
+Chuck J They work great on my AS73
+Tony Lee Glenn Would you mind posting the link from Amazon for the items you purchases, thanks
+Chuck J You bet Chuck: Here's the Amazon link to the tuners: tinyurl.com/haybbnk - Here's the Amazon link to the strings I use: tinyurl.com/hno5d83

06/13/2022: It looks like there are no screws put into the tuner to hold to the plate. What is keeping the tuner from moving?

easier lubricant for your nut is a pencil .. colour in the grooves .. graphite is a great lubricant f or strings

I have an Epiphone Les Paul Studio 2017, should these be a simple slot in?

@@daniellaudman8580 I have heard they are great as well! I am actually considering picking up a set for one of my guitars.
@@Colhogan06 also the locking Ratio tuners look good as well. Let me know if you get them and your thoughts on them. Thanks 👍

Love this comment!
Agreed, in fact my new gibson came with 9's straight from the factory
That's why I use 11s on my PRS(25.5 in scale) and go to the gym🤣
Santiago Garcia if you don’t use 12’s, do you even lift bro??? 💪🏻

You won't have a full wrap.
Got my Hipshots for Christmas. Did you just run the string thru and lock or did you employ a wind? Seems to be many opinions out there.

BB King used 8 gauge strings
i got some hipshots and super slinky too
pull tight and tighten lock then tune! That's it!
Excellent video, very helpful!
