I was really curious about their zen minimalism take on capsule hotels since a lot of new ones in Japan are becoming ultra modern. Here there was plenty of attention to detail in the traditional feel to the pods - lots of wood, paper and artwork giving it a 'zen' feel.

I like that you showed the restaurants and general area outside the hotel rather than just reviewing the facility. It's an important factor in choosing where to stay.

Of all the capsule hotels I’ve seen, this is probably the nicest one. I’ve stayed at a Ryokan capsule hotel in Kyoto, but that one doesn’t even come close. Only the amenity bag could do with a lot more paper packaging instead of plastic.

Thanks Jay! Ahaha yeah I think 2020 is my ASMR year lol.
With Chronology of Water - I look up to the author as it's so raw and she lays out everything. But a bit too shock factor and abstract for me I think. That said, it is very captivating.
You mentioned constantly having bad headaches. I get the same thing from irregular sleep patterns. Irregular sleep patterns can trigger headaches for some people.
hmm I don't think that was me as I'm lucky to hardly ever get headaches. Hope you get enough sleep over the holiday season!

Hey Erica. What would you recommend as the ultimate minimalist vacation too Japan? I pack light and have love the idea of capsule hotels, especially after seeing a few of your trips. I'd rather spend my money on food and cultural exploration.
I think you should definitely stay at a ryokan - kind of a traditional Japanese hotel with an onsen - they almost always provide robes, pajamas amenities etc so great for light packing. There are some great mountains outside of Tokyo if you like hiking too.

Luckily I don't need ear plugs. I'm the one that others need ear plugs for. ppl claim I snore, but I've never heard it. Actually I have, and it is REALLY loud.
