another big change is the bronze main gear, it's beefier and smoother then the first Gen. As a Lefty I had the Penn Torque II or a Z Baas which is insane at $1135 for a X25. I just bought a new Torque II 7500 baliess and plan on fishing the shit out of it spring of 2020 in Montauk mostly. I will do a follow up in fall of 2020 and see how this reel holds up to being dunked, slammed & fished hard on the rocks!!
@@redman754 it has been fished hard and is great. This reel has been dunked on every trip as I use it as a cane in Montauk- it is under for a helluva long time and it has not had any water intrusion thus far. The reel is much easier for me to get the line on the roller than my SaltX 6000 ( that's a great reel too ). Some sand gets jammed into the rotor when I am in the breaking surf and it grinds for a few seconds but, a nice rinse in deeper cleaner water and it's back to it's silky smooth feel. I love this reel & have no complaints so far. I will be getting it serviced by a Penn dealer after NOV2020 and will be watching as he replaces some crucial seals ( you must replace a few main seals annually on any water tight reel i.e. V Staal/ Z Baas, Tsunami SaltX and Penn Torque II. posted Oct 2020
Good to see they mounted the seal inside of the screw holes...I took the first generation reel apart the day it was released and that had me scratching my head. Looks like a reel winner :)
Are you guys going to do a review of the Gen II Torque? I am finishing up my first full season in 6-7 weeks using a bailess 7500 Torque II . I will forward you what we see when we get it serviced if you are interested. I am hopeful the Montauk rock hopping and daily dunking show the reel has what it takes at a great price point.
Hello Surfcasters, greetings from Peru... For the last four or five years I became a Van Staal follower. Last year I was evaluating to buy a Daiwa Saltiga 4000H, but because my fishing style inside the water (like yours in Montauk) I decided for another Van Staal reel. Even thought prices are similar with Penn, I rather much more the Van Staal. It is a well known reel and reliable...
Hey Zeno, I'm curious if you have done any actual field test on those Tsunami Shield's you unboxed a little while ago? I haven't seen many actual filed testing on that reel. I myself have 3. 2 5000 and 1 4000 and I use the bigger ones for chunking bait . It holds up pretty well.
Hi Zeno. Do you know what handle could I upgrade to on my Penn torque s5.(torque 1) I like the Penn Clash 6000 Eva foam handle but I don't know if it would fit.
I am looking for three silver 5500 to 7500 size high end silver reels for my 7'11" blue TFO's. I am considering the Accurate Spinner. How does the Penn Torque campare?
I'm not Zeno but fished my Salt X 600 hard last year 2019 and it's a great reel. I swim to rocks and get pounded into the surf, this reel did it all & had zero water in the gears or drag system when serviced in Dec 2019. I wish it was bit bigger but, with 320 yards of $40 on it it's fine as my largest striper last year was only a 30' in fish at 14 lbs. For $400 bucks the Tsunami is a good submersible reel.
I have fished the crap out of my gen II Torque 7500 bailess ( 2020 season ) it has held up well and has had zero problems being dunked and smacked into the sands of Montauk. No huge fish on it but a few 20-25 lb class stripers have shown the drag to be smooth and consistent. The end of season service will be the time to see if it is truly sealed or not...stay tuned.
So are domestic american vehicles so what. A fellow armerican put it together, set it up and inspected it. If something goes wrong Philly is going to fix it. The VS and ZB are just going to be handled by the american offices of their conglomerate owner. Ever hear of the mountain of Quantum/VS that sits behind the Okie offices.
To be specific, all parts that are "reel parts" [frames, gears, handles, etc.] are US-made. Parts that are "standardized machine parts" [screws, springs, ball-bearings, etc] are purchased from industrial suppliers, and may be from a variety of places. New labeling laws require 100-percent of parts [every single screw] be domestic, or that labeling is required.

Whats the biggest fish that you have ever reeled in on the 704z?
Hey Zeno can you do a follow up video on the Tsunami Shield ?

How do we get back to the #1 video please.
How does the Penn Torque 5500 compare to the Penn Slammer III 6500 model?
torque is much more heavy duty /all aluminum body type of a reel
What is the cost of this reel.
Hey Z,
Do you plan on dunking it and burying it in the sand?
Team EVO Surf Casters he said he will definitely do some testing to see if it's sealed or not in the video.

+HenrySchmidt obviously. Still made in America, great quality backed by Penn's guarantee.

do you take people fishing?
I am little late watching youre vidio
the ladies like the thick shaft. hence why i have this same reel.
bummer, the wife said to say....sorry about your rod then but at least you have a shiny reel to play with.
@@rkw221 , sold it since. Got enough money back to get 2 Pen Slammer3’s.
but personally, van staal for me... I'm just not a fan of this reel
personally I like diawa saltiga & zee baas . not this one
Why take away the black, hate this colour.
Gold is PENN's "signature" color, they will always have that. The silver color shows far less in the way of scratches compared to the black.
