As you've found out, this is a cover of a Lynyrd Skynyrd song. But the connections between Shinedown and Skynyrd run much much deeper than that. Both bands are from Jacksonville, Florida and Shinedowns original guitarist, Jasin Todd was married to Melody Van Zant, daughter of the late great Skynyrd singer Ronnie Van Zant. Shinedown got their first break playing at a venue called Freebird Live in Jacksonville. That venue was owned by Judy Van Zant, Ronnie's widow and Judy's mother. The guys used to play this as a tribute to Ronnie and a thank you to Judy. Also, in the video for this cover, a little girl appears holding a picture of a man. The man in the picture is Ronnie Van Zant and the little girl is his grand-daughter. The best comment I've seen about all this is "Most people don't realise, not even their fans, but Shinedown are Lynyrd Skynyrd family."
@SOCIAL MEDIA IS THE WORST in my opinion it's those connections that made this rendition so so incredible. You can feel that this is a song they truly wanted to do. When I first learned of their connection to Skynyrd everything made sense.
And it’s so hard to pick the best version. I go back and forth. Both are beautiful.

I highly recommend their songs Sound of Madness as well as their song Monsters..Sound of Madness is another one of their older songs from years ago, and Monsters is off one of their more recent albums i believe from the last 2 or 3 years but i can't remember for sure. They have a lot of great music, but those two are some of my favorite

It’s been well over 15 years since this came out and it’s still the best cover I’ve ever heard
I was lucky enough to see Shinedown live when they opened for Iron Maiden in Dublin back in 2017, I had not heard of them before that but they completely blew me away.
I came across Shinedown bout a yr ago. Now One of my FAVORATES!

I think just about every country boy gets this talk once in his life and you never forget it.
I stumbled onto this band several years back and I absolutely LOVE their music! A few other suggestions for songs by them you might like to react to: "Diamond Eyes", "I Dare You", "45", "I'll Follow You".
Also, sometime you should check out the original version of this song by Lynyrd Skynyrd. And their song "Free Bird".

They have a lot of good songs. Try “45”, “Monsters”, “Second Chance” etc.
Brent has an amazing voice. You should check out more of their stuff. I would recommend anything from "The sound of madness" album, "cut the cord" "state of my head" "save me" "my name" "nowhere kids". In case you haven't figured out im a big fan of them 😂

@@jonathanbouthillette753 He does, but the emotion doesn't feel genuine to me. That might be because it isn't the voice I expect to hear. That is my major problem with modern singing it has to sound"good" sometimes a little quiver or rawness undertone in an otherwise great voice makes it better.

@@1221tesla It feels fake to me. But like I said that may be me. You can't sing someone else's word with the same emotion that they have/ It may mean something even a lot to you but it is nit your soul that was bared.
@@jphillipsjwp I get it, I feel that way about almost every cover song. Check out a live version and then see. They played for Dimebag after his passing and the times I’ve seen the play it live, it’s moving. Ive taken more from this song when Shinedown does it live then Skynyrd. I know it’s not the same Skynyrd that wrote it but when played live it feels like a Shinedown song. In my opinion

Shinedown "What a Shame" is one of their underrated but masterpieces. Can't help but to think of my dad whenever I hear it. For better or worse.

Imma be real with you chief. I love Lynyrd but Brent's version is one of the few times a cover overshadows the original in my opinion.
@@666Shinedown To me his emotions in this song sound faked. There is no memory being reflected. I have said it is a decent cover but no not close to the original or even to the brother cover.

This cover was done after the passing of one of Lynyrd Skynyrds members in memory of them since Brent and all of shinedown were actually friends with Lynyrd Skynyrd. This cover is insanely better than the original in terms of vocals and emotion. If you want goosebumps, this is the version you listen to

Not as good as the original Lynyrd Skynyrd is the original.. Check it out
BIG mistake choosing Simple Man as your first Shinedown reaction. You always get comments re comparison's to the original, yet this is not about the song, it's all about Brent Smith's clarity and vocal range.
Check other reaction video's and most if not all comment on the lead singers voice first, not the lyrics.
Second chance or How did you love would have eased you into Shinedown and opened a Pandora's box of truly amazing songs.
