    One of my daughters is a prison guard at a men’s maximum security prison. One of the inmates gave her a flower that he had picked in the yard. She was a new guard and just thought it was cute. The more experienced guards understood what could develop and immediately moved my daughter to a different floor so that she will never have contact With that inmate again. Now she knows not to accept any gifts from the prisoners, no matter how sweet it seems. They all have an ulterior motive.

    The saddest thing about the story is that Casey was never in love with Vicky. He's a narcissistic sociopath who quickly picked up on Vicky's loneliness and self-esteem issues (as narcissistic sociopaths do). He then charmed her into his bidding. Once he got out he had no more need for Vicky, which is why I think she unalived herself- she realized she had been played, and she had ruined her life for nothing.

    33:50 I work with prisoners so let me clarify. Lauderdale County Detention Center is a small jail. And like any jail or prison in the US, it’s highly understaffed. So with it being a jail (and not a large prison facility where prisoners are housed on a permanent basis according to their sentence), the only person who is monitoring the jail calls was most likely Vicky herself. Every call is recorded, but not always monitored. If a prosecutor requests calls from a certain inmate, they go through the courts for that. But in house, only the COs will monitor calls if they have a reason to be suspicious or just to do random screening. And since she was the Director of the facility, she had complete control over the calls. All she had to do was write a report saying, “nothing to report.” She used a burner number to get calls from him when she was outside of work so with no one else finding a reason to check on Casey’s calls, no one would’ve ever discovered her voice nor ever detected her by phone number (as she used the burner number solely for those calls and no one else had that number except for Casey). Hope that helps!
    Oh, to futher clarify… yes, prisoners have phone seggz crouched in a corner at the phones. Mostly it’s the woman on the other end doing all the “action,” but if there’s not a lot of people around, they can find 3 minutes alone in the corner of the phone bay lol. And I guarantee she snuck him a cell phone so there’s tons of calls no one will ever hear. But it was smart of her to make him use the regular phones because it becomes suspicious when an inmate NEVER uses the phones. So to keep up appearances and reduce risk of getting caught with contraband (a cell phone), they hid in plain sight using the prison phones (which, btw, is VERY expensive). And ofc he would’ve had to use the regular phones when he wasn’t in her jail.

    • @PneumaNoose
      @PneumaNoose 3 місяці тому

      @@katiebragg4560it varies from state to state, but generally it’s about $1.25 to $4 per 15 minute phone call (out of state long distance costs more). Sending an email costs about 10 to 75 cents per digital stamp to send (again, varies by state). Prisoners only get one 15 minute call at a time (and cannot make another for 15 minutes in between). Some states/facilities only give them 10 minutes per call. They have to wait in long lines to get a phone, and gangs usually control about half of them. That means everyone knows not to use (for example) the last 3 phones on the right because they’re reserved for specific gangs. Everything we get to do instantly whenever we feel like it on the outside (such as picking up a phone, microwaving a meal, taking a shower, etc.) is totally different on the inside. Prison is a daily routine of standing in lines for everything and paying for every transaction you make.
      Oh, and if you’re lucky enough to have a job in prison, you make (on average) only $1 a DAY for hard work. So if you have to go to medical (usually about $5 to $10 copay), you have to save up a week’s worth of wages to do so. We do our best to help them out whenever we can because there are very very ill patients inside that simply don’t get anything close to proper care. It’s really hard to see, especially when it’s very old prisoners suffering. Sigh, anyway, I gave much more than you asked for, but in a nutshell, it’s very expensive to both be a prisoner (contrary to the belief that it’s some free ride) and to have a loved one who is incarcerated.
      Let me know if you have anymore curiosities! This is part of what I do (help educate on the inside and out). Cheers!

      All this talk about dry runs made me want to know the *real* origin story and this is what I found: *Etymology* The term dry run appears to have originated from fire departments in the US. In order to practice, they would carry out dispatches of the fire brigade where water was not pumped. A run with real fire and water was referred to as a wet run."

    • @vildaterrior

    • @vildaterrior
      @vildaterrior 3 місяці тому +13

      Oh hey if anyone else actually cares and I'm not the only one getting fixated on completely irrelevant things sometimes, I think this is the actual answer:
      "The term "dry run" refers to firefighter training without using water. More specifically, it relates to hose drills. It is has been in use in this context since the 1890s. ("Dry run" is now used to mean practice or rehearsal in any context.)
      Competing Theory
      The term "dry run" was popularized by the US military in the 1940s. It originates from firearm training in the military. Specifically, it refers to weapon-handling training before live firing. (Detractors of this theory highlight that there is no reason for the training to be described as "dry." It is clear, however, that the term became popular in the 1940s (evidence), presumably as soldiers trained for World War II.)
      Competing Theory
      The term "dry run" has its origins in the building trades, where apprentice bricklayers would lay bricks without mortar and apprentice carpenters would piece wood together without glue."

This case made me so angry when I heard about it, but this stuff does happen and it's really sad. It makes our whole profession look bad. There was a clip you put in about someone mentioning a duck you included in your video. A "duck" is a corrections officer the inmates know they can control/get favors from. There is an inmate manipulation training we take in corrections called "Downing a Duck" and it basically teaches you that if you do one small favor for an inmate, it will lead to much bigger favors eventually. I encourage you to google that, it's pretty interesting.
    Keep up the great work, I always look forward to when I get a notification you posted a video! 😊

The word they use in the prisons I’ve worked with escapes my mind atm but I’ll come back and edit this when I remember. Anyway… But yes, this stuff happens ALL the time. The facility I’m working with at the moment just fired a female CO (who strangely looks a lot like me) for having “relations” with 4 different prisoners. Sigh. They know from the moment you walk in if you’re the type they can manipulate. It’s truly very dangerous work. However, I’ve met some of the most interesting and wonderful people working with them. You know the ones who simply can never be trusted, and the ones who genuinely want to change their lives around. But there’s ALWAYS the professional actors so you can NEVER get close. Never. Good luck in your continued career! Stay safe girl ❤

      I don’t know how ya’ll work in these hellholes and keep your sanity. I’m an engineer, I have to go on construction sites & most my coworkers are male. I’m around dudes a lot. Doesn’t matter if they’re a low wage laborer or a managing engineer, I’ve had to learn to be nice but not too nice because I don’t want to “give them the wrong impression.” A lot of them are married/in relationships so in theory they’re getting laid every now and then but damn, you’d think they hadn’t got any in 10 years. I can’t imagine being a woman in a male correctional facility! Plus I’d assume a lot of inmates are clinical socio-/psychopaths, so they’re top tier manipulators.
      Also I live in Limestone County AL, right next to where this happened, I remember the search from day 1. We got an emergency warning on our cell phones about escaped inmates, staties were suddenly everywhere, it was kinda exciting 😂.
      I watched the doc about this couple & the truly sad part is it did seem like they “loved” each other despite their different circumstances & ages. He wasn’t using her as a means to an end from what I can tell. I think Casey knew they’d be caught, but Vicky bought the dream he was selling. Prior to this she’d been strait laced & hard working. We’ll never know why she fell for Casey.

      @@emkay888 i appreciate your comment as I believe their love was genuine as well. And love on the inside happens way more than people think. The most important thing I’ve learned in my years of working with prisoners is: _prisoners are just people._ Society likes to believe it’s us and them, when in reality, the only thing that separates us is the razor wire. They have jobs, families, hopes, dreams, regrets, heartbreak… just like the rest of us. I used to run a pen pal project for criminal justice college students and roughly 3/4 of the students walk away from the class with a much different view of prisoners after corresponding with someone one on one for a semester. I know a handful of students who still write with their inside pen pal to this day. Heck, I know someone who married their pen pal while he was still inside and they moved in together as soon as he was released. It’s really not much different than meeting someone online now that they have email and video visits.
      There are some people I met behind bars that, should they ever get out, I would invite to dinner with my family. The guy I’m thinking of in particular is in for murder, but he did a drive by when he was 16 and in a g**g, doing what he was raised to do. He had to learn how to be a real man in prison without even having a girlfriend in his life. He’s 47 now and a complete gentleman. All he has are his aging parents who are too ill to visit him, and yet, he’s the one who lifts up everyone around him. I pray everyday that his sentence gets reduced to time served. I have stories of these men and women I’ve met that will make you cry. And the ones who are actually innocent (as I’ve helped on 2 successful innocence projects), oh man, those will give you gray hairs and curse the world.
      Anyway, people on the outside have done horrible things in life, too-they just haven’t gotten caught yet. At least with meeting someone in prison, you know their worst mistake up front. Love in prison isn’t uncommon, and I for one am grateful for that. It’s a god-awful place, but if love can blossom and flourish in there, then perhaps there’s hope for us all. Food for thought 😉

      @@emkay888she was lonely, and sick of waiting around for “Mr. Right” to come around. She was vulnerable, he was a master manipulator, and she prob got to a point where she was sick of life to an extent. So she risked it all for love…. Or her perception of love. Love will make you do crazy things, like burn your old life to the ground in hopes of building a much better, stronger, happier life with the person who literally feels was made specifically just for them.

    A minor observation but the sound effect at 8:25 when Hedgey fell sent me into hysterics. So well placed 🤣🤣
    R.I.P. in peace Hedgey 🙏

    Your portrayal of Vicky was giving me serious Kate McKinnon as Janice in Masterminds vibes and I love it 😂

    A couple with bad chemistry in a movie would be Leonardo DiCaprio and Cameron Diaz in Gangs of New York.

      @@raeraebadfingers I understand where you’re coming from. Vicky had been in law enforcement for many years and knew the ins and outs of how former officers are treated in prison. My only thought is that perhaps she didn’t want that for herself.
      Idk, there’s a lot that she did that I have a hard time understanding….

      @@WinterIsWelcome that does make sense. It's just whack as hell that they figured they could get away with it. Especially in the current time we are living where there are security cameras and CCTV footage literally everywhere.
