Knowing what Canute grew up to be it puts so much it says now into a different context. His first lines are acknowledging a hawk,noticing its position, and quickly trying to acquire it. It’s so childlike but shows cunning. It’s not the same as a kid wanting something out of reach, the hawk showed weakness and Canute saw the opportunity.

I don't know if you realised, but Thorfinn is acting like Askeladd and he doesn't even know it. He's more like Askeladd that he is like Thors. That's kinda sad.
How is he acting like Askeladd? Hes just being his usual uninterested self, only caring about carrying out Askeladd's orders enough to get a duel and nothing else.
@@_syzygy_ idk if you've read the manga or not but this may contain spoilers to askeladd's backstory.
askeladd's mum was basically a prize his father won during his raids. she was treated like dirt until her usefulness ran out. askeladd watched as she got used until illness took over her body. after his father almost beheaded his mum, askeladd defended her, to which his father saw potential and decided to house him and polish his swordsmanship. askeladd lived every day with one goal in his mind: kill his father. he would pick up what he can learn from him and use it to kill him. that's one of the reasons why askeladd hates warriors and danes. if you look at it that, you can see how thorfinn is similar, maybe not the exact circumstances but in what motivates them and what they think they should live for. here thorfinn thinks his only reason to live is to get his revenge. as did askeladd. but what askeladd learned that thorfinn's yet to learn is: 'revenge never provides salvation" and that killing one mofo would only result in two more to take their place and the cycle repeats.
Spoilers for the manga
And as Thorfinn's story progresses, his entire goal is to be more like his father, and even to surpass him. It's genuine character growth that's really interesting to read.
I love how much Yaboy is into this, like look at him putting attention and speculating and shit, good stuff.
I like reactors like him who watch not only for the action.
It’s ironic that Askellad says that Prince Canute doesn’t have the face of a king because irl he becomes an Emperor ruling over Norway, England and Denmark and is known as Canute the Great. So I guess Askeladd was right in a way, he wouldn’t be king but he would be an emperor lol.

if they knew history, they would be hype to see canute.... or as we know him, cnut the great, ruler of the north sea empire, the only viking to rule over all of england...
