I was there, I was 12 years old and sat about 50 yards below the start/finish line…i remember king Richard running up toward the press box to meet the president…to this day it’s the closest i’ve been to a sitting president lol..it was so cool watching Air Force 1 landing behind the backstretch..
Parts of it were cut out to fit into Wide World of Sports, AFAIK. And yes, that is Sam Posey and Jim Lampley The conspiracy and rumors around this race was something nuts, looked it up while watching the vid, and to think in 84/85 both times DiGard were involved in controversy. Also man, the sponsors and schemes still hold up really well today, modern schemes don't hold a candle to 80s-90s and even early 00s Winston Cup cars really, back then people had to catch eyes with the schemes and they did that
So glad to have found your channel. All entertaining and informative. I like the subjects you are choosing. Any chance of seeing a video on Gilles Villeneuve or on Jacques Indy 500 win? Or Greg Moore, perhaps Paul Tracy. Sorry, I'm a big mark for Canadian drvers. Lol
Thank you. I'm glad you found my channel too. I actually did the Indy 500 that Jacques won already. It's the video called Revisiting CART's Final Indy 500.
A suggestion for a video. Rank the drivers who have won a NASCAR championship on a tier from F grade to A grade. That would be fun because of how they won them in the different eras of NASCAR.
Cale was so mad he forgot about the last lap 😂 he said somethin like i didnt win so it didnt even matter anyways lol watched a vid the other day that had cale and richard retelling this exact race
The 400 was special cuz it was an Independence Day race and you had iconic moments like that! The 400 nowadays is just a clown show with no meaning. But this right here is truly an American Moment in NASCAR and sports. One of, if not
There's something about this era of cars that speaks to me. I think its just that they are closer looking to production models. But man, so much character.
@demise90 Another suggestion for a video: Restrictor plate racing, why it was introduced, what was the impact in racing (lap times, top speeds, drafting, etc.)
Spoiler Bobby Hillin Jr wasn’t exactly future of the sport, he had an alright career, just not the career where the future like Bill Elliott and Rusty Wallace would have.
Another well-made video, my friend. Thanks for your love for television’s Golden Age of American Motorsport, the 1980s and ‘90s.

6:01 there's actually a photo of Air Force One landing at Daytona, with Richard Petty going down the backstretch at the same time. An Iconic shot IMO
Keep up the awesome videos buddy

Great video!
Imagine if Ole Joe was there, we would be like” did the Stanley Steamer win or the Model T? Cmon man!”

Don't forget this is the race where Richard Petty ate KFC with Ronald Reagan

And Reagan showing up wasn't a clown show?
@@TheHannukahZombiewhen did I even say Reagan at Daytona in 1984 was a clown show? Clearly you misread what I’ve said.
@@TheHannukahZombie the 400 nowadays is treated like a joke and a circus for the wrong reasons. That has nothing to do with Ronald Reagan
Air Force One landing in the background was iconic.

Kevin harvick was driving the 3 car in 1984
ok
Dale Earnhardt Sr was the driver of the wrangler jeans number 3.
