    Sounds like our weather is doing better than yours. Spring has pretty much arrived here in Michigan. I spent last weekend putting plastic on our greenhouse. I had enough left o er to build a 10 by 16 foot one to use for bedding plants. Built the shelves out of old stuff here on our farm Tuesday and Wednesday. Hoping to have it filled with seedlings by tomorrow afternoon. In between I have to build a new pen for the 4 baby goats my better half decided we needed. Anyways, as far as I know the methods you are using to install the plastic are fine. Just keep up on pulling it snug. I cannot emphasize that enough. If you wait until the end you will be too late. Prior to putting on the second cover, take time to snug up the first one completely. There are times and places where you will want to pull the plastic from the inside and other ones where you need to pull from the outside. Take care and I'm praying for a great growing season. Sincerely, Jeff

      @Mrsnufleupagus  5 років тому

      Hey pal!! Yes, I think you are ahead of me by the sounds of it! We will get Spring in the next month. We seem to be doing similar things, minus the goats, lol. I too will have left over poly and was thinking the same size for a seedling house, I dont want to waste the space in the GH's for that. Thank you for the poly advice, I will make sure it's tight and right before the second layer!! I also wish nothing but the best for you and your year my friend!! Stay awesome Jeff:)))

Sadly we only have one, but we don't sell anything, just grow for donation, so we don't really need the production space you do. For the blower vents, maybe a solared powered attic vent will work? They are designed to attach to framing on gable vents, and they come on when the sun shines on the solar panel. I forget how much cfm they move but they work well (I installed one on my home six years ago, with no issues to date). The panel is about 2ft by 1ft in size and the blower is about 3ft diameter. In big box building supplies they cost around $200US (found in the roof/attic section of the store).

    • @Mrsnufleupagus
      @Mrsnufleupagus  5 років тому

      Hello friend! I have been talking with Spring Hill Farms and we are working out how much cfm I will need. I will have roll up sides, which will help enormously, but still need venting. I will look into the attic vent and keep them in mind for sure. Thank you for a quality comment, nice to read ones that are suggestions and obviously thought out!! Hope you have a great end to the week:))

    Wow! So happy for you Ryan. They look amazing. I agree that during the growing season the biggest issue is cooling the greenhouse. I picked up a 20% shade cloth for mine to try this season and I'll let you know how that works for me. Just wondering about your thoughts on maintaining minimum overnight temps in the poly for your tomato seedlings. I'm guessing the combo of the dual wall poly + the thermal storage of the warmed soil below will be sufficient to tide you over? 🌱🐝

    • @Mrsnufleupagus
      @Mrsnufleupagus  5 років тому +2

      Thank you so much Nancy!! I hope the shade cloth helps you this year, keep me posted please. My thoughts on overnight temps is to first get my blowers and second poly on and monitor the temp change at night. Most plants can handle down to 5c at night but ideally I would keep them above 10c. I have 2 over head heaters that I want to get in there, but first things first...double poly. No sense heating a single layer, the heaters would run all night!!! Have a wonderful day my friend:))

    Did you use two separate wiggle wires, one on top of the other, to hold down the top plastic and the end wall plastic? Or is one wire holding both plastics down? is there enough room in tbe wire chanel to hold double the wiggly wire? I wish your camera didn't stop filming, it is such a great video!!!

    • @Mrsnufleupagus

    Dude you got greenhouses ;-) They look so good man. When I put the skin on mine I tied a string to it with a stone like a little button in the plastic then just threw it over and pulled the plastic over.
    But man I am so impressed with what you got done. New name for the farm Phoenix farm. Your raised the new greenhouses out of the ashes.. err Slush of the other crappy ones ;-) Way to go man I am truly very happy for you.

    Looking great. I'm a little concerned for you on spacing. When the snow slides, you will have to keep removing it from in between. Ours is alone and out in the open and I still have trouble with snow buildup. If your there everyday in the winter, you can stay on top of it...we're not so lucky.

    One wind gust and it helped? Last year owed you that bud, things are looking up. It's great to see inside, and how quickly the snow started melting as soon as the poly was in place. Have you got temp gauges in there yet? 🍺

    I’m a little behind on UA-cam. Liking the new 2.0 greenhouses! Won’t be long before you get them growing with plants. Are you going to be putting in a sand point for water?

    • @Mrsnufleupagus
      @Mrsnufleupagus  5 років тому

      No worries brother, life happens!! Thanks for popping by when you had time! Very soon. Poly has been up for 8 days and it's thawed 9" down already!!! Just crazy, if I was doing radishes and spinach in there I'd be planting soon!! I don't understand what you mean by sand point?

    • @nandpclement
      @nandpclement 5 років тому +1

      A little dirt never hurt Here we have lots of sand so instead of drilling for water we use a sand point which is a 3 foot pipe with holes and screens about one and quarter inch in diameter. To this point we attach more pipes and hammer it into the ground and with a whole lot of luck it goes into a water vane.

    • @Mrsnufleupagus

  • @AllotmentGrowHow
    @AllotmentGrowHow 5 років тому +3

    Great update my friend, it's good to see that you have taken a huge step forward with the greenhouse/polytunnel. When you say double skinning, are you going to stretch another piece of poly over the one that's already in place, or are you doing something different. Basically where is the second piece of poly going, inside? outside? It's hurting my head :-) Cheers Adam

    • @Mrsnufleupagus
      @Mrsnufleupagus  5 років тому

      Hey buddy! Very nice to be at this step, yet it kinda tells me how much is left to do, lol!! The concept behind the double layer is such. Add a second layer, loosely over the first and attach with more wiggle wire. The, thru the first layer on the inside, blower fans will be installed and pump warm air from the GH in between them and inflate it. This will act as a thermal insulation. It will take far longer for the outside air to effect the internal temp with two layer and nights are not my friend with how cold we get and for how long. Hope you have a great end to the week Adam, you are awesome and deserve a great weekend:))
