That was pretty good and the music was cool too. Actually this one is probably the best one I've seen, you were together and straight to the point. Thanks!
I've had a few different brands and sizes. ZOOM is, by far, my favorite brand. Not complicated to use and still does everything I need it to do. Glad your machine is working out for you as well.
@@BuckeyeBoyzThanks. Yeah, after all these years and over seven albums worth of material recorded on it, the unit has never failed me once. But just in case it does, I have a backup one ready that I found for dirt cheap on Ebay. I'm sure that'll last me for another decade too!
@@ShawnBarnesbass I did the same thing with the MRS-4 ... actually I purchased one for a fellow I collaborated with a few years back and then an extra for backup. Never had to use it until I started tethering it to the other one for more active tracks. You would have to be pretty rough with them to make them fail. So ... where can I go to hear some of your work?
@@BuckeyeBoyz The best place to hear my stuff would be my bandcamp page: shawnbarnes.bandcamp.com/ which features 48 of my best pieces, all of them recorded on the MRS-802. Or my SoundCloud page: soundcloud.com/shawn-barnes-473272002 which features the same material but lesser audio quality. Thanks for asking! Cheers
Thanks for this, its great, never seen anything demo the units capabilities as well as this, playing was good too! I know time has passed but given the sound problems is there any chance you could demo but looking down on the unit so its always clear which buttons you are pressing to get to the mix of sounds. If not has anyone else got any other videos that could be shared covering stuff from the absolute basics?
How are digital signals, like synths, cold? I mean, you can hear all the frequencies but it just sounds thin or something. I can't explain it with words & I'm guessing that other people have that problem?
It's true, it's hard to describe. I've had limited success by avoiding the use of too much compression and taking the mids out of the final mixdown just a little more than what feels natural. Sometimes adding a bit of overdrive (almost an unnoticeable degree) to the low end can actually help. Adding an ever-so-slight bit of pink or brown noise to the quietest passages will help to fool the trained ear. It almost seems that digital is just too perfect. Too crisp, too clean.
yes im a believer now brother i purchased the zoom mrs802 and was blow away that i could get the sound huge recording studio get. i almost fell on my face. i could have shit my pants.. can you tell me what kind of sony digital recorder your talking about concerning the mixdown. and that music is killer man!!!! love it,
thanks for the video very helpful; what i'm having trouble with is when i've found a cool effect (let's say for channel 1), i move over to channel 2 for different instrument... and the effect i chose for previous channel is gone?! any ideas??? thanking you kindly
If you want an effect to work across all the channels use the send/return function. Also, you can set the volume sliders to work as effect level controls. Make sure you haven't done that by accident. (I've done that before)
Hi, and thanks for the great tutorial. For a 16 bit recorder, it sounds amazing. I have a Korg D1200mkII, and it only sounds a little better than analog tape. I'll be checking Ebay today for an MRS-8. What's the biggest SD card you can put in the Zoom MRS-8 ? Thanks for posting and sharing with us.
This machine maybe what I'm looking for! Can you record Vocals on this machine? Is it possible to record 4 bars of rhythm guitar and then copy and paste that along the track?
@@JustMe-ue1hv I was under that impression also ... But the R-8 comes with free access to cubase and tons of instruments, including drums. Honestly, I have never used them. But they're there.
@@BuckeyeBoyz Thanks, I have been told my PC is too slow for DAW's, which has proven to be right after several different DAWs tried and leading to nothing more than frustration and gray hair!
Thank you a lot for your tutorial. Can you help me with this question: my drum light is lit in yellow and the respective fader doesn't work, i do not know what i did wrong, already formated the SD card but the damn light doesn't go green! Can you help me, please?
Oh my. That sounds bad. I've never seen it before with a ZOOM recorder, but I had a TASCAM that did something similar. I had to send it back to TASCAM to have the hard-drive replaced. Anyway, you're in luck because ZOOM quickly responds if you email them at the address in the manual. Once they actually made a program for me.

How does this compare to the Boss br600? I’m looking to get a battery powered multitrack/drum machine combo with the best capabilities.
That, I have no idea about. Boss is a great company. They make excellent products. But I haven't owned any boss equipment recently.
Sounds really good.
Thanks!
Great tutorial,
Was looking at the boss br80
